  2. I was just out on a road/ gravel trail ride around Circle C. I avoided the actual trails (32mm tires are not much fun on the rocks anyways) and crossed paths with a guy who was emerging from the south end of the VTC behind Walgreens on Slaughter. he looked like a "rider" with a nice FS bike (Specialized?). his bike was caked in mud, so much mud that he was carrying his bike out of the woods. I decided to address him directly and the exchange went something like. me- kinda muddy back there, eh? mud dude- [nothing, can't hear me because of the headphones] me- [louder] kinda muddy back there eh!? mud dude- [pulls out one ear bud] yeah, it's muddy back there! me- it just rained, of course it was muddy back there. you should know better than to damage the trails when they are muddy mud dude- I don't need a fucking lecture from you! [plugs ear buds back in and proceeds to scrape thick mud off his bike.]

  4. I can not remember this amount of rain over this period of time since forever but it sure is annoying. What I would not give for it to be 95℉+ and sunny again for just two or three weeks. Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk

  6. Other than May and June, October is the rainiest month in Austin. But we still get several months with no snow, no heat and awesome weather. With this much rain right now, the wildflowers are going to be epic in March and April next year. https://www.usclimatedata.com/climate/texas/united-states/3213

Other nearby attractions include Mesa Verde National Park and Canyon of the Ancients National Monument (which has MTB trails and FS roads from which some of the historic sites can be accessed) Phil's World is a really fun trail that is now being expanded significantly. Lots of good eats and drinks in town. Durango is about an hour East with more fun to be had. A visit to Ska Brewery in Durango is a pleasant diversion, my fave is their Steel Toe Milk Stout.

  8. No offense on the earbud comment and i should probably clarify. The persons actions of saying FU and then quickly stuffing their ears and going back to something else seems like a convenient way of hiding from confrontation and having to own what they did. To me, it seems immature and cowardly. Disclaimer: ive never once used strava or ridden with headphones/music.

  10. There are riders that have no idea the damage they can do. They need information, not to be shamed. People that know better need to have their asses kicked..in public...by grrrrls...

  11. Apparently he DOES need a lecture from you. Go go turtle power! Reddit austin would be a good walk of shame too.

  16. We'll have to keep our eye on the ball, that's for sure -- make sure there's no "last minute" additions and deletions which have considerable impact.

  17. I am hopeful. But I have been hopeful before. Many years ago we thought we had provided documentation and worked out issues. The "someone behind the curtain" changed everything that was worked out. Similar on the 2017 draft rewrite. I will withhold my opinion until I see actual results. There may still be "someone behind the curtain" who changes everything.

  19. Yes and Yes Both myself and ARRPrez were at the meeting. Because any government does not want to deal with each and every person/voter individually, they will try to deal with "groups". ARR is the only group they (or I) know of that represents mountain bikers in Austin / Travis County. That is not to say that another group could not exist or a new one form. But ARR is the mountain biking group that is recognized right now. Note that the BCP staff is trying to work with "groups" in hopes of actually getting issues resolved before throwing it open to the 'free for all" that open public meetings can turn into. My experience with open public meetings on some topics is they can turn into yelling matches where nothing is accomplished. I suspect that is the BCP staff reasoning also.

  24. First time in 22 years that I woke up in a rented room while on the road and saw my bike in it with me (first time ever to see my wife's bike too) — heading to Bentonville earlier this year. Last time was back in '96 on a trip from Miami to Ocala with three other riders.
