  2. Deception proper was in good shape last night other than a couple or so spots on 1/4 Notch. I don't recall any mud at all on Double Down. But damn that rock was slippery. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

  3. With the threat of a 25% tariff on Chinese-made goods, production in Colorado may have another advantage over those among their competition who are currently importing.

  4. Ahh, glad you mentioned that! I completely forgot they were working on this area when I was doing my loop, and was surprised to see that the Montopolis Bridge is now closed to vehicular traffic. But the narrow pedestrian walkway is still open and connected to the concrete trail on both sides, so you can still ride over the bridge. They've ripped up all the pavement before and after the bridge. Will be nice when this is finished and you can bike over the center of the bridge. Nothing has changed as far as the path by 5th and Shady Lane. Are they going to be making improvements in this area? Would be nice if there was a more discrete path along Shady Lane up to Govalle Park. ..Al

  5. I know this is the standard canned answer, but if your looking for some strange and it may be damp (ha!) then I'd seek out RPR. -CJB

  6. No better way to kick off Black History Month than celebrating the pioneers who influenced much of the American and British music we've loved over our lifetimes!

  7. For those who ride the Hike & Bike path downtown and like to connect it to the Southern Walnut Creek Trail, you probably know that a bridge was washed out a while ago that made this more difficult to do. Recently someone told me about a crossing further up the creek that you could ride, saving you from having to venture onto city streets. Yesterday I was riding through the park and noticed the city has now put down a concrete path across this creek, which should make it easier to traverse when wet. If you're not sure where this is, after you take the tunnel near the dam to enter Roy Guerrero park, follow the crushed granite trail on the left and keep going towards where the old bridge was located. Then follow the sidewalk along the parking lot, and continue as it turns back into a natural trail. Follow this for a ways, and on the left you will eventually encounter this crossing. After going across, you can then follow it back to the opposite side of the (now missing) bridge crossing.

  8. Let's post some urban rides so people have some place to ride other than wet / muddy trails. I will start - Park at the Best Buy or Sam's Club parking lot at 290 and MOPAC. Go north on the frontage road of MOPAC to the new pedestrian bridge and follow the sidewalk to Zilker Park. Pick up Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail heading east. For a short(er) ride, loop back to the north side of the lake on any of the crossing bridges. Go south under MOPAC and reverse your route to the parking lot. (about 15 miles) For a longer ride, keep going east thru Guerrero Park until you hit the 183 bridge over the river. ( Detour to the south to get around washed out bridges Follow residential roads north to Airport and Shady Lane (not bad car traffic but not protected either). Pick up the Southern Walnut Creek Trail in Govalle Park just east of Airport and Shady Lane. Follow the big sidewalk as far as you want - Decker Lake or Manor. You will have to cross some busy roads but most of the route is protected from automobile traffic. Reverse your route when you get tired. Best Buy to Decker Lake and back is over 40 miles. I will update the mileage next time I ride it.

  9. 23 posts over 2 days and no “HUGE NEW RELEASE” comments. [emoji12] I watched the other PB vid too. Interesting he said this resin can take high enough temps for powder coating! Cheaper carbon, made in the US, and more durable paint jobs. Hope they don’t get gobbled up by Trek/Cannodale/etc. for their IP. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  10. I posted a link to the City of Austin PARD map of Walnut Creek Park trails a while back. That link is now dead. I have requested a new link to the map. I will post the new link when it is available. Until then, I suggest mtbproject or ride with one of the regular group rides. But only when the trail is dry.

  11. A call to check with Crystal at Inks Lake confirmed their trails are hiking only. Because sites like MTBProject and Trail Forks have volunteer contributed content the trail may have been posted by someone who rode it unaware of this.

  12. Trail Forks shows a little under 3 miles of singletrack that it says is for biking and describes as technical.

  13. Good points Thad. Given whats been going on this year (with the EB) I don't think starting point is really all that big of deal. Matt, I was just mentioning driving to WC to start just so that you can keep the regular rhythm (from your past experience). Getting 'credit' for a 2018'ish EB completion shouldn't really matter starting point IMHO. Now if we were talking the actually day of the event, that may be different. As a side bar, I too have been contemplating adding a near-term EB ride to my calendar. But I'm contemplating resurrecting my cRaZy plan from earlier last summer.

  17. I'm waiting on an e-mail from Kathy. The closest weather station shows only a little bit of rain last weekend, and a tiny bit (0.01") this week. But rain is expected tonight and tomorrow. Not that much, but from what John said, it seems like it's all super-saturated and swamped like in 2010.

  18. Yeah, I talked about them in the Brushy creek muddy/trails thread. On how to help inform of trail conditions. They have a physical sign at each trail which can be flipped from open to closed and references the website for info.

  19. We haven’t had much rain. Rain gauge near the 1/4 Notch entrance shows hardly anything. With that being said, condensation this morning has made roots and rocks very slick. Ground isn’t in bad shape, but unless you like really sketchy rides on Deception I’d wait to ride until the morning dew dries.
