  1. It finally made it! First impressions: welds and build look really good, better than expected, but finish work could use a little improvement (on par with what I had been reading from others), but this isn't about finish details, especially since my original plan was to order a bare-metal frame. I will also say that I gave him a challenge with the "Geronimo" font, and was aware that it might not work well (looks good in photos, but up close has some issues)... Once I get it built-up, I'll measure geo, etc and see how close to the mark he came...

  2. I finally made my first trip to Spider Mtn on Saturday and ran into a few familiar faces out there. The threat of rain in the morning never really materialized, which is too bad because the trails could have used a bit of water to alleviate the dusty conditions. I can't imagine what it's going to be like out there in August if they don't start watering and maintaining some sections of the trail. I was initially hesitant to fork over $50 given the small # of trails, but I have to say I had a really good time. Still, after a dozen or so runs, it was hard to string together any combination of trails that elicited any excitement. The black and double black trails are definitely challenging and steep - there were a couple of sections I decided to walk given my lack of recent time in the saddle. Green trail is super-flowy with really nice berms and it was way more fun than I thought it would be. Blue trail was getting a bit torn up in places but was still fun from top to bottom, especially since you can mix and match sections of the green and blue trails to add some variety. The short jump line off the green trail is fantastic and I kept wishing there was more of that kind of trail. Speaking of which... it looks like they are working on another line off the top of the hill and from what I could see it looks to be a jump trail with several medium-sized tables visible from the clearing. All in all, the day was really fun. I couldn't see myself going on a monthly basis until they add more trail (especially at $50 a pop), but if they continue to add more and maintain what they've got, I might even splurge on an annual pass when they become available.

  3. The trick to the helicopter drop is to not jump too high when exiting. Just jump down. It seems it also helps to have a silly name.

  4. Definitely duck before you exit the chopper. Also, find a good way to tell the ground crew to ensure it has enough fuel....there must be a good saying for this.

  5. So I met this guy this week selling one of his bikes. Doesn't seem sketch, he has a day job and finds bikes in pawnshops, CL, etc. put a little TLC and resells them.

  7. The Triangle. Those eventually got folded into the main trail system, or at least made more legit. The entrance used to be by the arboretum and required you to ride through the drainage culvert then up a sweet, slick, steep climb followed by the best flowing stuff out there. I grew up living along the bayou at Memorial and the beltway and cut my teeth riding bikes on the anthills, well before I knew what mountain biking was. I remember my first summer back from college where I'd bought my first real MTB (Voodoo Zobop URT with Magura HS33 brakes!). I rode the Anthills 2-3 times a week and twice on weekends. The first place my wife and I ever road together. It'll be missed. It'll be back.

  8. Did 45 miles of SATN today with maybe 2 miles of road or concrete path and the rest was sweet, sweet single track. Big thanks to Enrique for showing us around the Meridian trails. There is just so much fun trail out there and more keeps popping up. You guys have built something special. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. Loctite makes a lot of products. The light blue 242 product should do it without being dangerously difficult to remove. However, all lock rings should stay secure when properly tightened. Use a torque wrench. If it still comes loose, there may be something else going on. Is the cassette missing a spacer?

  13. There's a big building session today at Brushy. People are meeting at the skate park at 6:00 pm. The plan is to clean up Mulligan, Deception, etc. I'll also be working on my own clean up on Peddlers (West Side of Parmer) starting around 4:30 near the skinny triangular bridge. If enough people come to help me there's a berm that needs to be finished near the rollers. If you can, please come and help in one or both locations.

  15. Planning a Pace Bend Work Day for Saturday 3/16/2019. I know that is the same as the Waco Race but I am running out of Saturdays that don't conflict with a race. Watch here for more details soon. Expect to be clearing face slappers and eye pokers so not heavy labor.

  16. Before anybody asks - Pace Bend Race Course will be its usual chunky technical self. There are limits to distance and difficulty for TMBRA race courses. Rock Garden of Greatness, NxNW and both Crotons are not part of the course. I expect to hear plenty of complaints that the course is "too hard" for some riders. I keep reminding them we could make it a lot harder. And some of us want to make it more technical. 2019_Pace_Bend_Race_Map.pdf

  17. Yes, exactly. A popular trail heavily used by mtn bikers and walkers -- a wonderful resource created by volunteer labor. To imply that the public "wasn't reimbursed" is pretty damned galling.

  18. @ HoneyBadger I had my daughter paint arrows on paver bricks and we carried 10 out there and dropped them with your tools on the east side of peddlers. You can use them for the directions Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
