  1. Anyone that steals a late model beetle gets what coming to them. I’d leave my keys in the damn thing with the door open if I were him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. That was the intention But reality soon set in. Honestly if the approach was a bit faster and smoother the huck would be more achievable Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  7. I thought it was meant to be hucked by real men, not the type that stand there and look at it and come up with some excuse like me

  8. Not sure about the Peddler, but alot of shops will offer a free tune up or 2 in the first year of riding. You may ask to find out. You may be able to get a solid adjustment and tightening of all the bolts. Wont include the suspension servicing most likely, but those are you usually not too expensive and I would highly recommend it. With a beer or coffee bribe you may even be able to hang out and watch to learn a thing or 2.

  9. Yeah, the other side of that rock has been a suprise for a while. Here it is from another prospective with less than ideal backside support.

  10. just FYI, the boost adapter kits work great https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=boost+adapter+kit&_sop=15 and are super cheap. in case you want a more current fork but want to keep your same wheel sets. I've been building boost bikes and scooping up non-boost Chris King and other nice wheel sets for super good deals and just using the boost adapters with great success. last complete king wheel set I got was $225!

  15. I rode it E-W going down today. Nice addition!

  16. Yep! Rode DD W-E on Tuesday. It works pretty well as an up. Probably a little easier (at least more consistent) than the original line with the erosion as it is now. My first impression was that it flows better too. Haven't gone E-W to try it as a down yet.

  17. The e-assist is really only to help you get to the top of the climbs... But don't forget to switch to "Boost" mode so that your geriatric body can make that double back flip with as short of a run in as possible.

  18. remember, these bikes are mainly to allow physically challenged people to mountain bike. 🙄 ...and they don't promote behavior that won't endanger trail access....

  23. No bluebonnets, just another rite of spring in certain trails: fallen limbs/trees, and poison ivy/oak (by the front wheel):

  25. People go to Bentonville, AR for flowy rides. People come to Austin for rugged technical trails. If you want to experience true to style Austin mountain biking, take up Austinbike on a greenbelt tour. He can help you avoid the hardcore stuff if that's not your speed, but still get you a good taste. This is our ideal weather period, so enjoy!

  26. It isn't the approach that get's me, it's the run out. It's a scree field with a few trees waiting to catch you.

  27. I have basically addressed creaks by checking the following: 1. Make sure skewers are tightened. Especially the rear. 2. Check your seat. Pedal hard standing up. If the creak is in the seat it can either be in the seat rails (connection to saddle) or in the rail connection to the seat post. Or it could be in the seat post connection to the frame (pull the post out, wipe it clean inside and also the post, then reinsert. 3. Check your front crank ring bolts. 4. Check your cassette. 5. Check your pedals and also your shoe connection. Pedal without your shoes clipped in. 6. Check your headset and handlebars. 7. Check your pivots. I put this near the end because it can be a real PITA. First make sure they are all tight. If they are you may need to take the frame apart and clean them out if there is dust/dirt in there. 8. Check your bottom bracket. Everyone always blames this one first, but it is typically the last thing that I check on. Running through this list will help you familiarize yourself with the bike. Then, when you take it into the shop (for most likely #8) you've eliminated all of the typical first check items and they'll do a better job because it will be narrowed down to a few places. The worst thing (I am guessing) for a wrench is to have someone drop a bike off with "it creaks" and know they are going to spend way too much time and make way too little money on the job. It's like dropping a car off at a dealer with "it is making a weird noise sometimes."

  29. Mostly posting this to get rid of the last picture. But this is Jelly Roll on Snow White. I had to restore it the other day. Some ass hat removed the rocks on the backside. That would be a painful OTB if you came over it expecting it to be there. Anyways. Keep an eye out if you use this feature. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  32. Isn't the correct nomenclature for "making a personal shortcut for a race" what many refer to as "cheating" in the parlance of our times?
    1 point
  33. I think that the way to get better at corners is to go out there and try a lap at a pace that doesn't require you to use your brakes much at all. It will feel slower than you can go but you'll have to be smooth. Slow is smooth...smooth is fast. Then you keep trying to go a little bit faster each time without using the brakes. You should find yourself leaning more and positioning the bike at the entry of the turn to keep your speed up on the exit. Pro tip: Get some Avids with wet pads because they will squeal so loud you won't want to brake anyway. When you start to hit a corner without braking, you'll come out of it faster than hammering in, braking hard, and then trying to get back on the gas. The same can't be said for trying to drive a car around a race track quickly but being smooth is always the faster line.

  34. Everything flexes under load. Understanding that flex and designing around it are what keeps things from breaking. Modern telescopic forks flex and the designers know it and yet they continue to function just fine. Personally, I can’t feel the fork flex and it doesn’t impact my experience so I’ll spend my $1300 on different parts before I drop it on a linkage fork. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  35. I'm going to come right out and say thank you for providing some insight that this conversation was sorely lacking. Big props.

  36. This^ Most of the flex is designed in to minimize fatigue. A good example of this is cast VS billet steel parts in engines like cranks, rods etc.
    1 point
  37. As an Engineer, all machines even the big 'ol 'merican V8 is just a floppy bag of parts. Minimize and control of the flex is all you can do. I'm actually shocked it's taken this long for MTB forks to go inverted (at least sorta mainstream) and large diameter (40mm+)

  38. a) It seems that you agree that it is a complex topic, not easily resolved. b) I'd ride and have a beer/mimosa with you any time. I cannot imagine the experience of feeling that my body is such a mismatch for who I feel I am that the challenges of a transition would be better than the status quo. Welcome to the forum and community!

  40. ***Officially Official Trail Change*** Went put yesterday with some people doing pay dirt. Noticed 2 issues that had to be addressed and made a fun alt line in Double Down. The alt line I got a pic of. The other 2 I forgot. I try and get back out to post up those. One issue was on a tight turn around some Oaks. The roots had become severely exposed and damage was ensuing. So I took out 2 trees and the line now swing around them slightly. The turn is still a little tight. But it was so tight that people were hammering up and breaking down on these roots. I liked the turn myself but we cant kill oaks for it. The 2nd one was a rock slab on a slight turn that stepped you up or down. The rock was out of place and the ground beneath it was a bit eroded. We placed a few rocks to make it stable. I understand it's not exactly the same. Maybe in the future I can get out with more time and put some real work into it. The alt line seen in pics is also in double down. It isnt a dumb down alt line. Its actually harder I think but also flower and fun if you can hit it. I hope everyone enjoys it. It looks easier in pics so dont judge too hard. 43. I don't even want to touch this topic, but I don't think anyone is "deciding to swap genders for a competitive edge."
    1 point
  44. If you think that someone switches genders only to gain a competitive advantage in a sport then I think you are misguided. Seriously. I won't take a position on what is fair in racing as I am not a racer, but the idea that someone decides to swap genders to gain an advantage is disingenuous at best.
