  1. nope not how it works at all actually. apples to oranges here. the apple being this fine piece of private property with a land owner and patrons who respect the work of the trail builder, and don't seem to mind challenging themselves, or walking what they dont feel comfortable, or just avoiding the gnarly trails they dont prefer altogether. the orange being your examples of public property and patrons (yourself) who seems to feel entitled to have the trails built around your needs, and skill level. all at the expense of someone else's labor, or just disrespecting other's hard work and changing it as you see fit whenever you please. I also ask what he would like, and try to add trails for him to enjoy as well with everyone else. but the terrain there determines the characteristics of the trail before I get to decide.. Walnut Creek type smooth flow trails will never show up there because the terrain says otherwise. I work with the land, not against it. a common misconception about cat Mtn is that its nothing but a bunch of crazy whale tails and nitro circus type shit everywhere. which isn't true at all. the overall trail system is definitely advanced and not for beginners, but there's trails there that can be enjoyed by a good variety of people.

  2. EnduraRace is pleased to welcome TEXAS Air Conditioning & Heating as the headline sponsor for the Full Gas on Peddler's Pass time trial. Marc Cook, the owner of Texas A/C & Heating and avid MTB racer, repaired my A/C unit last year. He was honest, fast, and undercut the competition by hundred$. By the way, if you have not signed up for the race, now is the time. The race is only five weeks away! https://legacy.usacycling.org/myusac/index.php… https://www.facebook.com/Texasacandheating/

  6. Peddlers Pass Update. Progress is moving along nicely and KOM is over the halfway point. There are about two weeks left of building. The West side of the trail is currently closed because of all the rain we've had and is predicted. Lots of damage will happen If it's ridden in its current state before the final adjustments and compacting happen. The goal was to keep the trail open as much as possible, but the weather has put a stop to that. It will lightly remain closed until building has finished. I promise you the wait will be worth it. What's been built so far is like nothing else I've ever ridden in Texas. The sectionKOM just finished from the highest point on the trail next to the entrance to the Sports Park all the way down the hill to the tight S-turn at the lowest point on the trail is amazing. Also, Northwest Construction & Remodeling inc. started work on replacing the skinny triangle bridge. It's going to be replaced with a 24' long, 4' wide bridge, with an 8' flat section on top then gently angled ramps on each end. This should stop people cutting through the creek which was causing drainage issues and keeping that area constantly wet. The 1st pic below is the start of the replacement bridge construction. The 2nd picture gives you an idea of the size of the berms been built and the number of rocks KOM is having to deal with (the berm pictured is not a finished one with the rocks removed). Even though the Westside is taped off, blocked, and signs up, people are still trying to ride it. Pass the word to stay off it.

  9. I wish I was an industry insider, you guys are easy. Every few months just add another gear and new wheel size/axle spacing. My boss, er, I mean I thank you.

  10. I think every b-line should have an additional B line (maybe call it a C line) and then that C line have a D line, and just to make sure that EVERYONE is able to ride the trail and NOBODY EVER has to walk their bike.. and then maybe even put a little miniature concrete path next to the D line just in case the D line is still too challenging for whatever individual didnt want to get off their bike won't ever have to worry about doing so.

  12. Juan El Evan has been doing great work on the trails I ride. Absolutely, positively do not miss having the changeable front gears in the least. 1X is most liberating, as when I now see steep I don't have to think about what ring I'm on, just hit 1 button till the cadence is right. I'm sure we'll have AI shifting soon that uses MTBProject and TrailForks data to chart what gear you were in on the last ride and shift for you on all subsequent visits to that route. Not sure I'd be all that keen on it, but the Millennials will like having things like that taken care of for them.

  23. In the interest of personal curiosity and the seeming inaccuracy of existing nearby online weather stations, I've installed a LaCrosse Rainfall and Temperature Monitor at the house. This installation and expenditure of personal funds is driven by my high enthusiasm and a burning desire to witness the magic of this new device performing as soon and as often as possible so that I may share rain stats with others considering nearby Rocky Hill as a destination. (in all honesty this is a ploy so Murphy will cease the inundation in order to thwart my desire and quell my enthusiasm to see this device in action)

  24. Mine is spinny compared to most of the ASSes I know. This topic came up a few times previously and supposedly some are riding Lake Georgetown, 4C, etc on 34x17 and such nonsense. I've ridden everything with 32/20 previously and anything I had to walk probably would have also been walked if I had a big ol cassette on there. I mostly ride SATN and Walnut on occasion. Might go to 32x21 if I plan to ride something new/ techy and if I don't have to try to keep up with the monsters who push big gears. 38x16 on my CX bike with 35mm tires for roads and gravel races. Singletrack quickly overwhelms that bike but it seems some trails too. Everytime I ride BCGB, it's with a bunch of ridiculously skilled people who I hold back or I get lost/ injured riding on my own.

  26. Other, much more rare, options: 1) gear boxes like Pinion (not sure how many gears it has) 2) Rohloff hub (I think this would be 1x14?) 3) Would SRAMs AXS (wireless shifting) be an option? It isn't any more gears but it is a change to shifting apparatuses. 3) Rotor has a 1x13 group: https://singletrackworld.com/2018/07/are-you-ready-for-1x13-rotor-is-and-its-made-a-humongous-10-52t-cassette-too/

  33. All of my favorite bikes have been steel bikes. I used have 2 Gunnar Rock Hounds, 1 with vbrakes I had set up as a rigid ss and the other was a disc brake geared version. Every bmx bike I've ever owned has been chromoly. My steel Serotta road bike rides like a dream. Steel is real.

  34. Thanks for the review. 30.9 x 125mm Cascade was installed last week. Fit's perfectly on the Blur LT. The little thumb lever that comes with the shorter travel posts is fine, but I wish I had the 1x style lever. Well, I took it to last weeks R&I and the lever kept getting stuck in the down/unlocked position causing my seat to stay up unless I tried sitting on it. I had to use my thumb to pull the lever back in order for the seat to stay put. Very frustrating especially for it being my first dropper post ride. I contacted PNW about it and they had some things for me to try in order to get it fixed with the comment that if it didn't work they would just ship another one. I take a close look at the lever and realize that my KNOG Oi bike bell was installed too close and the lever was getting stuck against the bell 😛 I felt a little silly. But when I tried to adjust it to not rub I realized that the lever for the bell and the lever for the dropper were not going to work well together. I got back to PNW asking them about the possibility of swapping the 2x lever for the 1x lever that comes with the longer travel posts. They got back offering me to swap them for no cost, or...they could credit me the cost of the 1x lever towards the purchase of their upgraded lever the "Loam Lever". That basically brings the Loam Lever down from $70 to $40. That seemed like a good deal to me, so they sent me a custom coupon code and they'll send me a return shipping label for the 2X lever when they ship the other one. The guys at PNW have been super easy to deal. Looking forward to seeing what they come out with next.

  35. I don't think the OW on trails has any more potential for problems than any other trail users does. Dog walkers, hikers, people on any sort of bicycle imaginable use these trails. If anything, those fat, flat tires will pack down loose stuff. The problem is human behavior- sanitizing trails and hogging trail space, in this case. It does not seem that OW riders are interested in sanitizing trails... for now. As the use of OW and other similar motorized vehicles (including e-bikes) beckons more and more people further into the trails, the inevitability of sanitizing draws closer. Unfortunately, education ("leave that shit alone! Walk it or ride it but don't change it!") is the best defense we have. RA, thanks for posting that thought about B-lines versus cheater lines. I never thought about it, but there's a difference between intensionally creating a shittily-designed line because one lacks the skill to ride the main line and is too lazy to walk it, and a well thought-out, secondary line to create variety and an option for less skilled riders. A good b-line can mitigate cheater lines, but we should not need them in most cases. Again, human behavior.

He can still reply to other's threads in the 'Mountain Biking Discussions' thread though. A good chunk of his threads only include himself anyway. win/win?
