  1. You'll get arrested in Williamson Co. for having cotton mouth, even the snakes know this.

  2. This is typical with all machine cut sidetrack. When it is first built it looks like the highway department came though. A year later it looks like it could have been hand cut.

  5. I call B.S. on no Water Moccasins in Williamson County. A few months ago I was standing on Suburban ninja and noticed there was a Water Moccasin about 2 feet from my foot. It was a chilly morning and he was trying to warm up in the sun, so I was able to get a good look at it. It had a dark body, diamond-shaped head, and slits for pupils. Can you just imagine the Water Moccasin's from Travis County, " sorry boys we've got to turn around, we've reached the county line. There is a map floating around that shows Water Moccasin's in every county surrounding Williamson, but not in Williamson itself. Last time I checked snakes don't follow political boundaries.

  7. I don't think there was any length change at all, the original route was followed and enhanced. The only turn that changed a noticeable amount was the last down hill section into a berm that was very close to the area that floods. That turn was straightened out and runs closer to the entrance trail so its up away from the flood waters. The "save the trees" segment still registers on Strava, and while that isn't the most accurate measure, I still think it shows the trail route has mostly stayed the same.

  9. It's hard to know which bike to pick, but you have to get On One or another and not be Surly about it, or have a problem with Enve when someone gets a bike with nice wheels, Orbea meany about it.

  10. I wouldn't get the 510s designed for clipless pedals to use with flat pedals. You are giving up a big part of the main contact area between the sole of the shoe and the pedal.

  11. Too many folks trying to be a Fisher of brand puns will result in being up Cane Creek without a pedal. Then, you might have to Schwinn for the bank. It's hard to justify it being Elsworthy to keep going.

  15. I've also run over a rattlesnake on deception and at Walnut. The only place I never see snakes is Peddlers Pass, I guess Sanit Patrick drove the snakes out of there after he got done with Ireland.

  17. Dale Ball is pretty great if you want to be up in the hills. It's a bit cooler and you get bigger trees for shade the higher you go. The trade off is that because it's up in the hills and it's a lot of climbing. Bring your lungs and climbing legs. There is a way to connect Dale Ball to the Windsor through Little Tesuque Creek but I've heard it's a pretty tough section that does the connection. Never done it. I think you can connect the Dale Ball to Glorieta too. That would be a big day. La Tierra for me has the most variety and is probably where I'd head if I had one day. Not quite as taxing as Dale Ball or the Windsor and more fun than Galisteo. Lots of single track and a good variety of up and down. They also have the skills park areas full of jumps and features if you are into that. If you are staying near the square or rail yard area you can ride to either Dale Ball or La Tierra. Galisteo Basin is neat but mild compared to the rest of the area. There is a ridge for some climbing but overall it's flatter. Galisteo makes a good warm up ride for adjusting to altitude or when you are already wrecked from the last ride. IIRC you can ride there down the rail trail now but I've not been that far down yet. I always drive to Galisteo. I've never done the shuttle to the top of the Windsor. Maybe this year. It's 3500' down starting above 10K. I did ride up most of it once 😰 I started at Tesuque and made it to the Pacheco fire road but I've also started at Borrego and Chamisa and done smaller sections. Good stuff. TrailForks has good coverage of existing trails in the area but check out this site for what the area has planned: https://sites.google.com/site/greatersantafe/trails/maps

  18. I'm no snake expert but I've had several self proclaimed experts swear up and down that Williamson Co. has no Cotton Mouths/Water Moccasins. This seems in direct opposition to several hunters/fisherman I've spoke with. On the other hand seems like every water snake in Texas is called a CM/WM.

  22. This AM on the section at Brushy that leads down from the Skate Park lot toward the paved path and bridge.. was my 1st snake in awhile. It was crossing by the frisbee golf area. I am pretty certain it was a Eastern Yellow Bellied racer.. solid with no blotches or stripes. It was gray. About 24 inches long. At first I thought it was a cotton mouth but it was a lighter gray and not that dark or thick. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

  26. I hit Peddlers last night for the first time since the rains and definitely see the vision that KOM is pulling together. I suspect that the soil make up on most of the West side of Peddlers is 50% rock, 50% dirt. This lends itself to roughing out the trail but it will take tires and time before it reaches it's potential. Those big flowy berms are unlike anything else around here and are going to be super fun. Those guys really know what they are doing out there.
