  1. Just an FYI, literally right above the big waterfall is where the county property line ends, despite where the fence is. I know it looks like the county property goes much further than the existing trail, but to the east and south, we are already pretty much on the boundary. The west we have some wiggle room, however, the superintendent wanted it closed to "protect artifacts". I would like to challenge this with the new parks director. The digging has continued since it was closed an fenced. We (Josh, me, and ARR) are going to try to get access back to the old trail (with modification) that goes up and around the ditch and comes down directly across from the existing line at the bottom of the ditch - bringing back the loop. Wilco has a new Parks director, he's a MTBer, so we are going to pitch a few plans to get some trail back as well as introduce some new trail as well. No promises, wish us luck.

  2. Mine is dialed how I originally envisioned it as of this weekend. Super happy with the turn out and deals I got on the bags with patients. Planning to do some light touring trips in a few months when it cools off a bit. Heading to Bastrop SP, Pedernales SP, and Inks Lake SP. Then plan to do the big loop in Big Bend SP in the winter. Bike: Salsa Journeyman size 54, apex 1 build, 700x43 gravel king sk tires, 2 salsa anything cages on the fork Bags/gear: Saddle bag is a 14 liter Revelate Designs terrapin system. Inside is a spare can of cooking fuel, sleeping bag, and my clothes which are just bibs, poly shirts and socks. Fork bags are Road Runner Buoy Bags. Did a lot of research looking for the biggest I could run here these are 7.5 liters each rolled 3 times. Great capacity for the fork. Right leg is my entire Cloud Up Ultralight tent including footprint and my pillow. Left leg has gas canister, cook system, rain jacket and a liter of water Handles bar carries 3 bags. 1 stasher bag 3 can (Orange) that carries my sleeping pad. 1 stasher bag 2 can (black, hard to see, attached to orange) that holds all my spare tools and parts, pump, and spare tube. On top is a Revelate Designs Egress pocket which nutrition/food and battery pack, wallet and a few small nic-nacs. Top tube is the salsa bolt on top tube bag that has easy access nutrition for riding snacks, phone, chap stick and the small things I will always need to grab in motion. Carrying 3 20-21oz bottles in Power Cages. Bigger, more isolated rides and I may throw on a camelbak for 3 more liters of water, but it would have to be cooler weather for that. Looking forward to many trips on this thing!

  3. This morning I went out to DD to take some pictures, and saw the glob of epoxy left behind from the previous rock placement. What a mess, but no new rocks that I found. I also hiked up the entirety of DD to the chain link fence; the natural creek way was wet all the way up, with a small trickle coming from yet further up. But "further up" means due south from this point where the retention areas are. BTW, this is the driest I've seen DD since March but it still has a wet center; it's just not flowing very much.

  9. I used to have the one on the right! I am sure I left it at my parents’ house one summer and I’m sure it ended up at half price books at some point. That brings back some memories!

  12. +1 on the what natas1321 said ... Something I've never considered happening. Now I must live in fear of yet one more thing. Thanks to Gigantor and Spicewookie for making this new phobia available for widespread use. Also, mucho gracias for NOT providing injury photos. Sincerely.

  13. CRANK AND DRANK event! This Tuesday, August 6th, is our annual Back to School boot passing charity event to benefit two local schools. Casey Elementary and Paredes Middle School were VERY appreciative of our donations two years ago. So bring some cash to put in the boot. We'll pass it before the ride and have it available afterwards as well. Plan on participating in the apres-ride festivities. There will be brisket under the tent. Feel free to bring some potato salad or any other sides. And don't forget to bring your favorite beverage for the Dranking! The little bit of dust settling rain we received should make for very good trail conditions. 6 pm, behind ATX Bikes.

  14. Stumbled onto a 4-pack of this stuff while visiting family in Huntsville over the weekend. It was well worth the premium price.

  15. Went sour this evening and it’s great. Also picked a six of Black Butte Porter and had Mt Hood Brewing Co double IPA and a whitbier with lunch after 4400ft of riding up, both special release. The IPA was OK, the whitbier was pretty good.

  16. Registered wife and I for banduro. She was stoked to see a women's beginner class with 5 vs 8 stages and will be a great way for her to get started. I'll be bringing up the rear in the 40-49 group 🤣

  17. Isn't that in the mission statement for this forum?

  18. This is all too true. When you drop gears I think your ego inflates proportionally by a value equal to the gears lost. I am working on funding for a scientific study to back my hypothesis, but until then it is merely conjecture.

  19. Kittens might make good tacos, who knows? Baby goats do, after all. (queue the resident @spicewookiefor professional input) How did I get to that you ask ... E-bike is essentially a bionic set of legs for a rider. Makes a less muscular rider capable of doing things that require more strength than they can produce. Whatever strength they input is amplified at some ratio determined by the program. If the above is true, outlawing E-bikes because of concern over potential damage to trails, or any other concerns along those lines would be equally applicable to any rider with high leg strength as well. All other arguments for outlawing them, made by riders, seem to be more ego-based. "Why should they be able to do something that I had to work hard to achieve?" being the primary complaint I read from that camp. Regulation for preventing bruised egos isn't a good idea. There's just too many ways to bruise a fragile ego to account for them all through regulation.
