  1. Before. Very narrow safe passage. After. The trail into has been moved to the right as well as the trail being widened to allow you to stay further right. Also a little more brush has been added in front of the hole. Folks will have to work to crash into now.

  2. Good thing you had that bottle in your pack to use for scale, Tip! I find that a Tempranillo pairs better with the terrain though. White wine is for anything further west.

  3. Seth holding a race 😮 This is pulling me out of early retirement. I've signed up to race. If you're on the fence about racing, just do it.

  7. Last call before the Enchilada Buffet: This Thursday I will be leading a Thumper EB Pre-Ride. We will meet at 5:30pm and roll out shortly afterwards. Its a short 10 min spin over to the trail head. You will need to bring a light, its likely to be finishing at sunset. Considering weekday traffic on Old Spicewood, we will probably only do the Thumper trail. 5:30pm- Meet at BB Rovers -12636 Research Blvd B101, Austin, TX 78759 Reply back with any questions or comments. If you hate Thumper and plan to do the EB, and you don't show up for the pre-rides, then you have nobody to blame but yourself. 🙂 Cheers, CJB

  8. I don't recall the root drop ever being a part of it, but I wasn't around in the pre-Strava early days. A mystery lost in the mists of time and the chasms of Thumper, perhaps.

  9. This makes so much sense especially with the new around the tower route. Thanks for the pictures.

  10. No, the path is still there. A few people have veered off the path in that spot and plowed into that culvert instead of going around it. You have to stay right, closer to the street to avoid it. The culvert is nothing new. It's probably been there for years before more than a few people started using it as a mtb route. It's not hard to avoid at all if you know it's coming. In fact, if you know it's there, you'd have to intensionally veer into it to hit it. The problem is that it's at the bottom of a hill that allows you to hit that spot going pretty fast, so if you don't know to dodge it as it is hidden in the weeds, you might not have time to avoid it when it becomes visible.

  11. I'm good with the standard Tuesday loop starting from the terminus end of the concrete path, minus Windy and BMX. No need for Endo or Root Drop, but no one's going to hold it against you if you do em -- unless you're planning on a Top Ten finish, I guess. Sorry if the GPS file says something else - it's from a year, maybe two, ago, and trails were in flux back then. If you've gotten thru Thumper and made it back to Walnut, no one's going to hold a different loop of the Nut against you! I'll be out there later today (sans rain) making sure we have a clear run up to the exit to Shady Springs. Join me if you wish, Barry!

  12. The rim-killer is here. I know of two riders who have destroyed rear rims on this. You can ride through the creek bed right before the Slaughter Creek preserve easily if it has not rained in a while.

  14. Looking at what folks did in 2017, this seems very wrong. I'm not sure anyone did Root Drop. Most folks did the current "standard loop" minus Windy & BMX. This also doesn't jive with the GPX file, which doesn't do Root Drop.

  16. This is a good idea. IMHO, if you are racing you need a full day or two of riding there to get a feel for the trails.

  17. Milton Reimers donated the ranch that became Reimers Ranch Park, Travis County's largest parkland acquisition and home to several miles of trails and rock climbing. Thoughts and regards with the family. https://www.statesman.com/news/20191009/milton-reimers-who-provided-travis-county-ranchland-for-public-use-dies-at-82
