  2. Guidelines Austin Mountain Biking Forum Guidelines and Rules The goal of the Austin Mountain Biking Forums is to promote intelligent discussion about mountain biking and cycling of all types, as well as allow for off-topic discussion in the forums designated as such. To help promote friendly discussion, we have put some guidelines and rules into place to make it clear to members what behavior is and is not acceptable when posting to the forums. When creating new topics or responding to an existing thread, please try to be positive, constructive, polite, and on topic. We do not censor opinions or ideas on our forums but we do take action against posts and/or topics that could cause unrest in the community beyond a civil and polite disagreement. We reserve the right to remove any topics we deem inappropriate or disruptive to our community. Please note that, from time to time, topics may be removed for being inappropriate even though your individual post in that topic may have been perfectly fine. Please do not feel this reflects badly on you. Remember, the whole purpose of this forum is to have fun and to share your love and knowledge and enjoyment of mountain biking with other members! Forum Rules: Please read and understand the following rules. We reserve the right to ban any member who violates our guidelines or disrupts our community. We will be fair and provide warning in most cases. If after being warned a member continues to engage in the behavior he or she was warned about, the member will lose his or her posting privileges. Don't be a Jerk As stated above, we want to promote a friendly environment for discussing the amazing sport of Mountain Biking. To that end, please conduct yourself in a friendly, civilized manner. If you feel the need to insult or attack other members, you'll quickly find you are no longer welcome here and we may permanently ban your account. Politics And Religion Since Reasoned Discussion Of Politics And Religion Rarely Seems Possible On The Internet, Please Do Not Start Such Discussions Here. In Our Experience, Such Threads Usually Fall Apart Quickly And Everyone Ultimately Gets Pissed Off At One Another. In Addition To Forum Threads, Please Also Do Not Add Political/Religious Remarks Or Images To Your Signature (If You Have One), Your Profile, Your Profile Photo, Or Anywhere Else On The Forum. Also, Do Not Use Status Updates To Espouse Your Political And/Or Religious Views. Any Such Posts/Profile/Signature/Status Updates Will Be Subject To Removal Without Warning. Continued Refusal To Abide By This Policy May Result In A Permanent Ban From The Forum. Spamming Spamming is not permitted. Spamming comes in several flavors, including: Posting commercial messages to the forum, where the product or service being advertised has no relevance to the forum they are being posted in. Repeatedly posting the same message in multiple forums in an attempt to get "wider exposure". We will delete any duplicate threads of this nature, so please don't waste our time by doing this. Using the forum to excessively promote your "agenda". For example, if love or hate a certain bike manufacturer, that is fine. But if you feel the need to interject your love or hatred into various topics any chance you get, and it is disrupting the forum, we consider this spamming. This is also considered Trolling (see below). Trolling Trolling isn't always easy to define, but it generally is easy to spot. Trolling usually involves disrupting a thread by posting messages that are off-topic, rude, inciting, and so forth. We recognize that topics will often veer off course for one reason or another, but when an individual member repeatedly disrupts threads in a negative fashion, that member will be warned. Trolling also includes creating new threads for the purpose of starting flame wars (known as "flamebait"). Personal Attacks While we understand some discussions can become heated, we will not tolerate members insulting each other in the public forums. Likewise, any racial, ethnic, gender-based insults or other personal discriminations are not permitted. The strength of your arguments goes out the window once you resort to personal attacks. If you find that you often get angry when discussing a certain topic, we suggest you refrain from involving yourself in such discussions. Explicit and Offensive Imagery Do not post images directly to the forum of a sexually explicit or offensive nature. If it's not something that might be shown on the 6 o'clock news, think twice before posting it. Please use common sense and remember that many people visit Austin Mountain Biking from school, work, and other locations where they could get in trouble if these types of images suddenly appear on their screen. If you want to provide an external link to such images, that is fine as long as the link relevant to the discussion and is prefaced with a warning describing what the linked image contains. Profanity Please keep in mind that there are many younger members who visit the site, and thus, keep the use of profanity to a minimum. Members who litter many of their posts with profanity will be asked to tone down their posts. Pirated Software/Music/Movies/etc. Do not post information on where to obtain pirated software, music, movies, or other copyrighted media. Please also do not post such material directly to the forums. Likewise, please do not post the entire contents of a story or article from another website directly into a thread on Austin Mountain Biking. Quoting sections of such material is acceptable. Signatures Signatures should be limited to three lines. Please do not increase the text size to make your signature stand out or it will be removed. You may include text links in your signature. Please do not include any images in your signature. If you add an image to your signature it will be removed without warning. We feel that graphic signatures at the bottom of every message detract from the flow while reading a thread. You may also include a link to your website in your profile. To this end, we also ask that you don't use a larger font size in your signature to help draw attention to it. Do not use your signature to espouse your personal religious and political views. Multiple Accounts Users found signing up for multiple accounts will have all of their accounts disabled. If you have forgotten your password for an account, please let us know and we'll be glad to help restore access to that account. If you have any questions or comments about these guidelines and rules, please use our contact form to send us a message.

  3. You're more than welcome to start your own forum if you want to integrate religion into mountain biking. And, yes, please do get back to Brushy Creek instead of complaining about suppression of religious/political talk here. Thank you, ..Al

  4. Despite the title, it certainly sounds like you are alluding to religion here (or the existence of a "God" that created these "laws of physics"). Not to mention your "bite of an apple" reference. This after you created at least two other threads that I've had to either delete or lock related to religion or politics, both of which are forbidden topics here. Stop it before I have to put you on moderator preview. ..Al

  6. Nobody throws a party like Beth did with hundreds of dollars of catered bbq and a full keg of Stash IPA. I remember the good ol days of getting forks and spoons drilled painted and hung along the route, the make your own race plates for your handlebars, and getting to Walnut after dark. Truth be told, is was a lot of work and time keeps getting shorter. Congrats on the riders and volunteers for keeping the torch alive even if it doesn't shine as brightly.

  7. I'd gladly accept the blame if I came home with a new bike, but alas, I did not.

  8. Call first. Reimer's is one of the places that closes the trails when it is too wet.

  9. If you want it to send data to your phone it has to have its own cell phone/number. I was not willing to pay that much for something that other people could play with or steal. Here is one - https://www.amazon.com/Cellular-Trail-Cameras-Waterproof-Activated/dp/B07Y2HQ8Y4/ref=sr_1_32?crid=3MVSG8EYB1KXW&dchild=1&keywords=game+cameras+with+night+vision+motion+activated+waterproof&psc=1&qid=1571940655&sprefix=game+camera%2Caps%2C1627&sr=8-32 I was using ones similar to this - https://www.amazon.com/Moultrie-A-25i-Camera-Kit-MCG-13299/dp/B07G2K1QXJ/ref=sr_1_28?crid=71YQDLR5ZKI7&dchild=1&keywords=game+cameras+moultrie&psc=1&qid=1571940774&sprefix=game+cameras+mou%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-28 Make sure you buy a lock and use it everytime. I also started putting up cameras in pairs. Each camera took pictures of the other camera. Then I had pictures of who was messing with the cameras. They are not hard to setup and use. It does take some time to program it, install it, lock it and download it. Will you get frustrated - yes. But that comes with trying to deal with the public on trails with or without game cameras. I found the game cameras were the ONLY way to solve some of the problems. Tip - you know about some of the problems. Nothing short of pictures to prove who was doing what solves some problems.

  16. Sorry for the lack of moderation the past few weeks, I was extraordinarily busy preparing for and attending a large video game show in Portland. Just got back last night and saw all the religious / political crap @RidingAgain posted, most of which I think I've cleaned up now. @RidingAgain This will be your only warning to refrain from posting those topics again on this forum or I will permanently ban you. ..Al

  17. Ok, after this, it's settled. I'm taking Friday off and riding Reimers. Haven't been out there for years.

  18. Ok, that might have been a little strong- but it did sound like permanently removing bike access was being considered as a result. I’m not one of the people who have made the effort to build those trails, I guess they would have been thoroughly unimpressed if access was lost though.

  19. I'm always amazed at how quickly the SATN recovers. I'm thinking that even an inch and a half won't put everything out of business. I've frequently said, in that sort of a rain event, that a day afterwards, "It's 95% good to go." Which means don't put off a ride waiting for that 5% to dry up. But it is actually going to be good if we get 1" or less. It will soak up and knock down the dust. Perfect trail conditions and it looks like the weather is going to be perfect too. Maybe bring a jacket for the post ride activities. We'll assess it late Friday, while the route is getting reflagged (again, grrrr) and cancel it on the SATN Facebook page if it's not gtg. But if there is no cancel announcement it's on.

  20. I think you can thank whichever stupid little c*nt it was that sneaked in to Flat Creek without paying or signing in, then crashed badly enough to need medical attention, for the closure. I thought it was supposed to be reopening soon though, Fri-Sun only? There’s a post about it on the Austin Mountain Biking group on FB.

  21. https://www.strava.com/activities/2111688296/overview From the man himself. It skeeves me out a little to post someone else's link, but as I recall his profile is public. I would have posted mine, but I didn't bother to do the little road out-and-back at the start. This is CCW. And apparently the little road out-and-back at the start is part of the new loop.

  22. The build has not started yet. We are fighting like crazy to get the paperwork in place to build these trails. The lawyers got involved so what should have been easy has become a nightmare. The new trail will not "join" to the existing trail. But you will be able to join them by riding across the road near the maintenance building. If you look at the north end of the map of the new trail, you can see the maintenance building marked. If you look closely at the very north edge of the map- you can see the exiting mountain bike trail.

  26. Yeah, mine supposedly does that. I doubt I will need the high beam often. Medium is supposedly 900 lumens so I'll use that most of the time.
