  1. Get ready, i need to vent. I was at Peddlers last night..it will not be ready this today, there was standing water in places. But still people were riding it. These people were not noob's and should have known better...and each one of them said exactly the same thing (that i hear everytime) "Oh, i was just thinking it was too muddy, i'll exit the trail when i can". 1. That's B.S. on Peddlers you know within the 1st 100 feet if it's going to be too muddy. 2. Stop putting your need to ride above the longevity of the trail and the time trail builders are going to have to spend to fix the trail after your selfishness. We could be using those hours to build new stuff, so your just making the trail less fun for yourself. 3. When you get asked to stop riding the trail because it's too muddy, just get off your bike and walk it out, don't keep riding "to the next exit". It's like a little F you to the builder because your continuing to do the exact thing he's asking you to stop doing. It might seem like a small thing to you, but it's a huge thing to the person that has spent thousands of hours building what you're destroying. I personally have spent at least 3,000 -4,000 hours working on Peddlers Pass over the last 4 years (maybe more), so you can image what i think when someone keeps riding after I've asked them to stop.

  2. For $3.59, this is the contact cleaner I use in my workshop. Works great for cleaning up discs, cleaning up after bleeds, and removing Stan's messes. https://www.cvs.com/shop/cvs-health-isopropyl-91-alcohol-first-aid-antiseptic-spray-prodid-958283

  4. I avoid brake kleen as its a little too caustic for my tastes. It can discolor/damage other surfaces like paint and powdercoat on forks, hubs and calipers etc. Watched a GMBN tech episode where they recommended WD-40 contact cleaner. Found some at my local home despot for under $7 and have been using it on everything for a while now. Stuff is great! https://www.wd40.com/products/contact-cleaner/

  7. I generally try to think the worst of people, so I think most of these riders already know better. Then again, they are probably the same people that once they are told by the waiter that "Careful, the plate is hot" the first thing they do is grab the plate. Ya can't fix stupid. oh, and sorry that Ole B line showed up on FB and started spewing his verbose bullshit all over your post there too. That's probably the best place to get the point across.

  10. I'm cheaper than you. I get the 97-cent bottle from HEB and pour into re-cycled a well rinsed Glass Plus spray bottle. 🙂 It's also great for cleaning shock and fork parts which is what they recommend.

  11. I have a season pass, so my response to your question above is probably going to be different that someone who shells out $50 for a 1-day lift pass. When we go, we typically spend about 3 hours out there (that includes the time it takes to gear up, take at least one break, and get packed up while having a beer or two). Most days, we're able to get 8-10 runs in that amount of time. By then, we've usually hit everything at least once, most things a couple of times, and the stuff we really like a handful of times. For me, this is the right balance between getting in a good amount of riding and feeling like we're riding the same things over and over again. Having said that, there was a kid out there recently that must have been trying to break the single day record. At about 3 in the afternoon on a Sunday, he was on his 22nd (I think) run of the day. I'd say if you got there early and took a few breaks to rest and eat, you could easily get 15 runs in a full day.

  15. Just rode deception (Wednesday lunch). it was gtg, save a handful of puddles on quarter. chain is up on peddlers, didn't try anything else, assumed they were probably a bit too wet.

  16. Good video too. That "one way" bleed is kind of how Shimano advertises it. But this isn't at all how it works if you follow their instruction closely--the ones which come with the brakes. Following the instructions work very well too, but there are like 6 more steps.

  18. Yo Mack. Buddy of mine just got healed up from a broken hand and wants to get in on this ride. Told him to not register on the website and let me contact you first. I’ll let y’all work out the compensation and registration transfer. Got an email contact I can reach out to you on?

  19. In the same boat, my wife was really not excited about me going, but I made it out undamaged. I tried to not stay out their all day since she was losing her sh*t while I was gone. I got plenty of runs in, I was pretty winded. Since I was only out there for 3.5 hours I only stopped to rest on the chairlifts (which are super slow) and took a couple snack breaks at the top, but I was really spent. Got about 5 runs on the flowy blue trails, a few on the green, then did about 4 runs runs on the black trail, forget the name, then did a couple more runs on the blue trail, called it day. It will be worth your while. This was on a busy day out there.

  20. So, I haven't ridden SM yet (wife not real keen on the idea) and was curious how many runs in a day do you actually get? It's hard to judge from these kinds of videos on how much riding you can actually get in a day? Seems like a lot of interrupted riding. Again, I have no clue.

  21. I use the same brake cleaner, regular or lower VOC version on metallic and organic pads from Shimano, Hope, and 3rd party pads as well as on the rotors. I do not spray it on the calipers though. I spray onto a towel and then wipe the pads and calipers if I got some oil on them. For regular maintenance I just use 70% isopropyl. On the loctite, blue is good for just about any bike screw, but there are some applications that may require the other colors for smaller screws (like in a shifter) or larger ones.

  22. SufferFest added strength training to their system but I have no idea what it looks like. I second AntonioGG's suggestion to watch Dylan Johnson's channel. It is a guideline, not a specific plan, but he refers to research to support his recommendations. Plus Backwards Hat Dylan is super relatable.

  25. +1 Same here. In my case I had spokes that were too long. ARGHH! I had one of those fail on the trail. As a matter of fact, it happened to be in the SATN. I went to add air, and it just ripped off. I'm very good about not putting a lot of force on the stems when I have to pump them up with the compact pump. On analysis once I got home, you can see the stem is super thin, and made of aluminum, so it's very weak. I have stuck with the standard Stan's stems since then.

  26. Monkey See Monkey Do on South Congress (love this store!) has fun "pencil toppers" for a few cents each. You can glue a pesta cap inside one and put it on your bike. My mtb has a zombie and the CX bike has a chrome skull with red eyes I made this way.

  29. If I had a dime for every time road salt has corroded my valve stems, I'd have enough to cut a valve stem out of a tube that I got for free because it had a hole in it.

  30. Honestly they aren't as expensive as I would have guessed. $40 for a pair. I would've guessed $80+. On the other hand, considering I use homemade sealant, gorilla tape, and valves cut out of old tubes, I'm probably not going to spring for Ti valve stems anytime soon.

  33. It was good and I did have fun! Plus my lackluster training did help. Unfortunately 3 weeks before my whole household got the stomach flu that was going around and any training took a backseat until the weekend before the event. Before this, based on my progress I was hoping for a 2:45 time but after the setback in training set a goal of under 3 hours. In the end I achieved a 2:55 and went home happy. I'm glad I did it, the medal/belt buckle is pretty sweet but I don't see me doing any other long distance runs. I will however try a local 5K or two. I definitely have seen a benefit to my overall health and biking stamina because of my 2-4 mile training runs.
