  1. Time flies when you're having fun! Blew away my previous best on PP this morning. Feels good to be back after so many setbacks this past year.

  2. Can I take that "80" back? The SATN is easily over 90 miles now. On another note, I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I have to do a PSA. Just about every time I ride Drip Drop, or anything in the area (wink wink, new stuff) I come across someone walking their dog. I hope like hell that all riders are being as courteous as possible to these people who are no doubt homeowners and a part of the HOA that Drip Drop is on. "Hello." "Nice day isn't it?" "Pretty dog" "Thanks" (for stepping out of the way) It only takes ONE vocal resident to make a stink to get that lovely area removed from our SATN access. DON'T be the person that triggers that!

  3. on the plus side mtb is a great sport to do in this age of coronavirus. 1) sun kills the virus 2) wind disperses the virus 3) sweat kills viruses 4) you are not in close contact with other riders 5) you have to "work" from home Im going to have to stop brazilian jiu jitsu and start mtb again. See you all on the trails.

  4. We're taking self quarantining seriously since we're both way into the high-risk demographic age wise. Corona virus likes to park and go to work in the the lower respiratory tract of old people. Older people with COVID-19 in northern Italy (heart of the pandemic) were dying from acute bilateral interstitial pneumonia and it's not a good way to go. If you survive that, there's potential for permanent lung damage. Cycling and walking means we're not house bound. Really hoping this new corona virus is like others in the corona virus family and tapers off in warm to hot weather. Nobody knows, though. It's summer in Australia and people are getting sick there. Pedal on, y'all and and stay safe, well and happy.

  5. Primarily retired. When I do work I work from home. Been this way since ~2013, with one short stint back in the office (it was not good). Because of my upcoming surgery I have avoid all human contact. I cannot risk getting sick because if my window slides out a couple of weeks it may be decided that it is too risky to be around a hospital for a non-life threatening surgery. But riding is life, so not having the surgery IS life threatening. The only upside is all of the rain that is on its way. That will make it easier to lay in a bed with a bag of frozen peas on my gut.

  6. Maybe we’ll learn that telecommuting reduces traffic and makes life easier. We’re still pretty stupid even with all the smart folks in town.

  7. I saw reports it was not a broken leg. It was a leg impaled on a broken off branch pointed at the trail. Rider was reported to have not even fallen into the "spear", but was impaled as he rode by. Heard they ended up cutting the branch off the tree and left it in his leg while getting him to the hospital. Let's be careful what kind of things we leave behind on the trail. Best to CUT branches back to the trunk (preferred) or back to a branch collar.

  9. There are far easier ways to fuck with American politics than to unleash a new disease in a different country half way around the world.

  10. My office was basically evacuated around 3:20 this afternoon. We typically don't permit much telecommuting, so next week will test the limits.

  11. I'm no tree expert, but it doesn't appear to be suffering as a result. I can say with certainty that tree has done more damage to my shoulder than I'll ever do to it.

  13. I'm riding the Santa Cruz and this has been sitting. No reason to have it taking up room. And...I'm buying some new rifles and an AR pistol.

  14. Got in a great solo ride today. Can’t. Be around anyone for the next 96 hours as I prep for surgery (have a small window, don’t want to blow it). Good mental therapy to be out there.

  17. It could have been squashed in china with the swiftness, but seeing the only sacrificial lambs are elderly people, China let this spread like wildfire and the media is pumping it as hard as possible. This sends the market and jobs to a screeching halt, oil markets fall out of the bottom, and everyone is in complete panic. All in a US election year while congress drags their feet to get relief to the America people.

  18. We decided about 10 years ago to have every single IT Operations (systems, networking, etc.) team member set up to work from home. We deployed hundreds of Cisco routers that use DM VPN to connect our datacenters. That means having a wired and wireless connections that each physical location has. It also lets us use our normal Cisco 8865 video phones. If I'm in the office, my extension works there, if I'm at home...it follows me. My laptop connects to wireless whether I'm at home, in the office, or in one of our remote locations here or in Europe. It's expensive, but worth it for what we do. We use VMWare Horizon to provide VDI (virtual Win 10 desktops) for most of our thousands of employees also. This has been a non-event for us, but only because I've been through too many emergencies, and now plan for everything that I can think might happen.

  19. So many jobs don't require presence at the office. Hopefully everyone starts getting on with the times. I have lab work that requires me at work sometimes, but mostly I can work remotely form anywhere (example, car dealership service department, kids' appointments, dr. offices, or just plain home).

  27. Here's the complete ride report from Rich. Probably the best Spider testimonial I've seen to date, especially for somebody who earns their living mountain biking in Bentonville. He's a ripper too which makes the vid really entertaining to watch.
