  2. Hit it today. Was riding by myself, but there were a bunch of kids at the top and I asked them to call 911 if they heard an old man screaming! Hit the A-line first so I wouldn’t over think it. I had just a little too much speed and landed deep, but somehow managed to stay rubber side down! The b line was very smooth.

  3. Having been there that is impressive! Thanks for sharing and awesome feature. I know I want to try but not sure my bike/weight will agree with my decision 😅

  5. I think the key is one of the things said in the video First-Blood posted - "You do you." So people use the same technique for jumps and drops. Some people even 'pre-jump' a drop. Some people seem to have a different technique for every single feature. As long is they like what they are doing they should keep doing it. The other key point is to start small and build up so you learn the technique and speed you need for each feature.

  6. I hit the b line wood feature 4x today. Nothing to it. That main drop though. I need to work on something similar but 1/2-3/4 that size first. It doesn’t look impossible for me though. I can see myself hitting it someday. But maybe not on my 130 rear travel trail bike. 😳

  7. I had a LITTLE lift for a pop. ... BUT .. that was because i felt i was too fast then i brake checked too much and as i came to the lip i was compensating in case i was too slow. But this is a standard drop procedure drop with a little more speed needed than drops that have a transition at very base of the drop. *Yell SEND IT! *Look ahead where you want to go (not down) *Stay centered over BB in attack P position *Stay loose and relaxed ready to absorb the landing a bit. This is just how i do it. Not the only way. Richard Drew has a very interesting approach to drops if you haven't seen his you tube tutorial. https://youtu.be/VaD4gxDEtRA Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  8. I want to warn riders who don't normally ride things like this. I'm pretty sure the video does not show the rider launching - but he does. The video appears to show it just as he becomes visible, At least I think I can see him lifting. So be warned - don't just hit a drop like this with a lot of speed. Learn to launch. There are lots of good videos on Youtube like this -

  12. My wife is a serious trail runner and here is her take. Trail runners are just like mountain bikers, there is a huge variety in personal preference in what they like in a trail. Some like the gnar with rocks and climbs. Others like it runnable with gentle ‘flow’. Most like variety. However, she is in deep with the trail running community and she knows of no one that would ever modify a trail. I seriously doubt that trail runners are the source of any trail sanitation issues. 13. I assisted my 11 yr old with 'social distancing' from his older brothers today by going on a 36 mi urban road ride. Bonus points in that I crossed paths with Chuck on the WC bike path as he was heading out for an early-lap. Later, CJB

  16. Its called TESTING! Haha. For Realz. I hit it many different way and one of them was to ensure someone rolling like that would come out ok. You can also launch off the lip and barely tag the bottom. Or you can... forget it. Just go ride it people. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  17. I wanted to add to say that we should not assume that the runner or rider that doesn't hear us is an asshole either. They could have full or partial hearing loss so keep that in mind. Stay friendly and be good people.

  18. Update: Canyonlands and Arches National Parks are closing down tomorrow, Saturday, March 38. Moab and Carbon, Emory and Grand counties are shut; all lodging can be rented only to locals and essential visitors. These three counties cover a lot of area. Non locals are also banned from camping on public or private property (see below). That said, current visitors will be allowed to stay until the end of their reservation and then have to leave. They cannot extend a reservation. This will be a massive hit to their tourism-based economy & is coming in the middle of Spring Break week for a lot of people. All Moab hotels, lodgings ordered to close to non local visitors. You can link to a pdf clarifying the nature and extent of the closures here. The part specifying that there is to be no camping on public or private lands, unless you are a primary resident (live there) or an essential visitor, is on page 4, section 3. Moab is an isolated place with a small hospital (17 beds). They can't do critical care and have no resources to respond to serious COVID-19 cases. Grand Junction would be the closest major hospital and that's almost two hours away. The locals may love it because they aren't dealing with the tourist crush.

  19. That was my exact reaction as well with MTB specific shoes. I had to think more about taking my feet off the pedals with flats than I do with my SPDs.

  20. Jumps and Drops are entirely different beasts - each demanding different techniques.

  27. Trail runners are great and I see a ton more of them now that the VCT comes farther down here. Families stopped in the middle of a fast trail on a blind corner, off leash dogs, and the oblivious headphone users are the main concerns. I'll say this though: If I pull over to let you pass, just pass me. Sometimes it's better for me to let you by. Like when people "pull over" to stand on my preferred line. I usually stop and make a joke about needing a break anyway so they keep going but really I'm looking at that sick B line they are standing on.

  28. At the degree of decline and speed of that descent, lifting the front of the bike either with a momentary manual or with compression/release would only serve to potentially get you pointed in the wrong direction or mistime the drop. The rider in the video demonstrated the best approach IMO, which is to be in an attack position that enables you to give a push forward as you're going off the drop.

  29. Almost found out the hard way that roll in is on the left and not the right! Not a bad roll in at all. Highly recommend.

  30. Seems odd to close it for day use mountain bikers. All the trails are so wide that there can't be any traffic issues.

  31. I have been avoiding saying much for a while now but this getting to be too much for me to take. This rant is based on very little education, research, training or knowledge. This is what I think is common sense. The current virus is new. The best I can find is that the first known patient was in China in November 2019. That is a matter of months ago. It spread like crazy because it is a "new" virus. People don't have an immunity to it - yet. There is no vaccine - yet. Even the test had to be developed in the months since it was "discovered". I don't have a feel for if it spread faster or slower than other "new" viruses but I don't think it matters. The way people move around the globe these days means it spread easily and quickly. People are dying from it. From what I can tell, the fatality rate is not far off the fatality rate of many common viruses. News stories make it sound like if you test positive you might as well attempt suicide because you have a better chance of surviving. The same news stories say that, so far, the fatalities have all be elderly or people with compromised health. Young and / or healthy people are recovering just like they recover from the flu or colds. Wait didn't the early news reports that this virus WAS in the same family at the cold / flu???? What should we do???? You should do what you want. I intend to live as I always have. Be healthy. That includes riding and exercising. Washing my hands. Keeping my body and my environment clean and healthy as I can within reason. (I will not do a daily Lysol scrub of my house / car / bike / etc.) I will avoid people who appear to be sick. I will try to stay away from other when I feel sick. All of these are things I normally do. What do I change? My 401K is getting "rebalanced". (stock broker way of saying I am taking advantage of panic selling.) I am looking at things with a longer term view than most people appear to be. I think this will pass in a matter of months. After all - China is reported to have closed the last temporary hospital because the patients have recovered. Maybe people will learn from it. IMHO, they will not. And there will be similar opportunities again soon. But the biggest thing I change is to quarantine. I will quarantine myself from the hysteria that plays on the news in the current 24 hour news media. My wife keeps pointing out that with 24 hour news on many different channels, they all have to out "hysteria" each other to attract audience. And that is where I think the problem is originating. That is the true "patient zero". Anyway - this post is just my opinion and it is worth what you paid for it.

  32. I got a solid 20+ solo miles on the Southie Trails yesterday. Came across less than 10 other riders and just a few walkers. Everything was beautiful and green. After a fairly rough week (for me personally), it was good for my soul.
