  1. Big thanks to @HoneyBadger and his continued work on Peddler's Pass. Rode it for the first time in a couple weeks and it is just getting faster! Primo conditions yesterday. I was pretty excited yesterday to take the top spot on Strava for Peddler's for my weight class. Finally broke 17 minutes. Felt like I was flying. Weight loss helps! Dropped 45 pounds since Jan 1.

  3. I have found that dusk through dark has increasingly less people. The crowds disappear at sundown and the trails are empty so I've been trying to ride at that time lately. BC is a different beast at nite. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

  4. I had some Philosophizer the previous night. I was thinking...who can session this? Respect. Last night I had Tripel B. Probably one of my favorite beers.

  5. Nice! I see your 17 minutes and raise you 2.5 minutes. 19 minutes and 30 seconds for me today, lol! I figure that's not too bad for how out of shape I am and probably my 4th time ever on that trail. Today was actually the first time all the way through without stopping for a rest. Congrats on the weight loss as well! 45lbs lost is a hell of an accomplishment.

  6. I saw the title to this thread and thought it could go multiple directions. It didn't go the NSFW direction which means that it must have been posted in the morning before the day drinkers logged on. My thoughts on hand pumps is much like my first aid kit. I hope that I never need it but if I do, it better damn work. However, with a pump, if it doesn't work, you're just walking out which could happen for any number of reasons. The last two times I flatted (which doesn't happen often thanks to tubeless), I used a CO2 cartridge and it was awesome. If I wasn't tubeless, it would be too expensive but I'll pay for the convenience. I do keep a small hand pump in my big pack for longer rides but I don't know the brand other than it wasn't expensive and works with a presta valve.

  8. I sent the following email to KVUE a few days ago. I have not heard back. I'm posting it here as an example and encouraging y'all to send a similar email to news outlets. If they receive several emails about the "problem" then perhaps they will realize it really is one. What else do you have to do anyway? And it's better than shaking your fist at the sky in frustration about these things! I could have mentioned dogs on leash but forgot about that one. Your call. I am an avid mountain biker that uses the single track trail that is abundant in Austin. There has been much discussion among our community about how trail usage has greatly increased lately with home bound folks getting outdoors. Both obviously new bikers and lots of hikers and hikers with families. A story to educate the multitudes of new trail users as to proper trail use would be very helpful in insuring safety for everyone. Some of the problems we are seeing: -Not wearing helmets! Just crazy. But worse are the parents not wearing helmets sending a terrible message to their children riding with them. Worse even yet is some kids (under 17) we have seen violating city law by not wearing helmets at all. -Use of head phones that isolated the hiker or biker from their surroundings. Use pass through sound or just one ear phone so you can safely hear oncoming riders or riders behind you trying to pass. "excuse me...Excuse Me...EXCUSE MEEEE!!" -Don't stop in the middle of the trail to use your phone. Blind corners make this practice particularly dangerous. We mountain bikers, that mostly built them, love sharing these great trails with other groups. But some simple practices will make it safe for everyone. It would be a good visual story too. Taped on a beautiful trail somewhere with active bikers and hikers walking by.

  9. Looks fun and the lack of gears makes it even MORE fun and less hassle. Ride that beast and put it up wet and it will always be ready to rock. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. depending on the trail I run about 24 rear and 22 / 23 front. It works for me based on my tires, weight and conditions. Sometimes I adjust from there. Play with it and see what works. I seriously doubt you will over inflate.

  11. Don't worry, it's not like a balloon, just don't go over the rating stated on the sidewall and there'll be no bursting. Otherwise, that's a really loaded question; it depends on the tire design, construction, volume, rim width, riding style, rider weight, suspension, etc. Best starting point would be the rated pressure for that tire, then go down from there until it performs the way you like... if you start getting rim strikes or feeling squirmy, you've gone too low. For example, I weigh about 200 with gear; For my hardtail with 2.3 WTB Vigilantes, I like 24 rear, 20 front, but for my full suspension with 2.4 Geax Gomas I like 25 rear, 18-19 front

  13. I just purchased a set of those "Airstreamz" so I can hear better when I ride. I will report back if they work. They are mainly for roadies, but might work at higher speed stuff offroad (as well as the road to get to the trail)

  14. "BCB - Peddlers Pass 5.0" is the "official" Strava segment. When I make a big change the numbering advances, 6.0, 7.0 etc.

  17. Thanks @throet I just need to splurge for the full version. I was using "PP 5.0? Full East Entrance" and "BCB - Peddlers Pass 5.0" So many different tracks. Now I got to get 15:52 to have total domination. It's on!

  18. That Spesh 2-stager looks awesome! That would for sure do a road tire. With road tires, they pump up fast, but the last few pumps to get to the higher pressure are extremely hard without a HP settinig. My frame pump is a Topeak and I love it. It's the one I didn't have with me when we rode together and you flatted. It's a dual setting high volume or high pressure. I've had it for 14 years and has never let me down. I even went back to using the pump instead of CO2. My MTB pump is also a Topeak and I love it. It's ancient but it works. It doesn't have a hose but I am OK with how to deal with it. Just like Austinbike, what I really love are the handles that flip to a T like my old blackburn. The blackburn didn't last as long as this Topeak though.

  20. Wife won what I think is a crank bros GemL that we've never used. Open to trades if anyone wants it. Bought that specialized pump in 2012 and if you can still find one, cant recommend enough to someone willing to carry a pump in their pack. It's a 2 stage with a hose, that works on shocks and tires. Inflated a 29er pretty quick considering. Can tell you my hatred for handpumps without hoses is only exceeded by actually having to carry a handpump or backpack.

  21. I have the same pump, love the two settings. Start with high volume to get the tire mostly inflated and then switch to high pressure to get it to the right pressure. It could probably work with road tires, but it'll take a while maybe. I keep it in my camelbak for back up. I've moved to using CO2. It's so much more compact. I can take it along for shorter rides where I leave the pack behind. It's SOOOOO much faster and energy consuming. Lenzyne makes great inflators, but I currently have a Genuine Innovations inflator and it's super easy to use. Running tubeless, I find it really helpful with tire plugs to inflate the tire quickly to get the sealant to seal around the plug. On the other hand, if I only need to top off the pressure then the pump is nice to use instead of opening up a fresh CO2 cartridge. The CO2 for when fixing a flat, the pump for adjustments. šŸ™‚

  23. Thanks for the offer, but i think i'd rather just buy the right one new. (and hope it lasts another 20 years) Yeah, i've never used CO2, because i always ride with a pack and my pump has always worked. i've ridden with other people who have used CO2 on rides, and i've seen kind of mixed results, but that may have been user error.

  26. Crankbrothers Klic HV +Co2 is a good one for carrying in a pack as it's got a gauge is high volume and has the Co2 adapter. It also has a hose which makes using it a bit easier. https://www.crankbrothers.com/products/klic-hv-gauge-co2 Lately I've transitioned over to using a OneUp EDC pump attached to the bike. It lacks the gauge and hose but has the Co2 adapter and holds the EDC tool and a Co2 cartridge. I like it because it means less in my pack but unfortunately it's not cheap at ~100 for the pump and EDC tool. https://www.oneupcomponents.com/products/edc-pump

  28. It's got a new (to me) line up to the cliff that's pretty fun. I like the tech level of the trail. If I ride it regularly enough I can see progress. I can never remember the right candy names but ankle biker makes sense to me because of the overhanging rock at pedal level along lots of the trail.

  35. Climate change is like the slow-mo version of COVID. "The virus will miraculously go away in April." "The climate is always changing. Who's to say human actions are accelerating it?" Wait, then why is it that every single credible scientist and expert on the subject says otherwise??

  36. Thanks all. This is pretty much how she wanted to go too. It was just too soon at 70 for us. She was an avid gardener, sporting clay shooter, quilter, knitter, and as of late was making masks to give away. She was an awesome lady.

  37. If you ride Brushy or similar 80% of the time, buy something that is fit for Brushy. If you ride spider mtn or similar 80% of the time, buy something that is fit for spider mtn. IMO buying a bike for the 3 weekends a year you go to spider/Moab/Durango is a bad decision. Been there, done that.

  40. Found out from an off hand Facebook comment in a SA mtb group that he passed. From the comment I believe the gentleman administering CPR was the son in law. Commenter believed it was a heart attack. Hands down one of the saddest, most unbelievable sights I think I'll ever come across in the woods. Stay healthy everyone!
