Shakedown ride on the new Ripmo AF at RPR.

I tried to ride all the Deception and Suburban Ninja trails I could find. About 30 miles total plus 4 extra miles for a restroom detour at ymca. https://strava.app.link/yu7jBmCqc6 Rode Deception east to west from Mulligan to YMCA, back east on Picnic, then to Suburban Ninja. I'm not too familiar with SN so I'm sure I missed some trails there. Then back to the trails near Champion Park and finishing off at Peddlers Pass. Was tempted to try Wilco park as well...Next time.

Well, I TRIED to string together a 50 miler from my house (other end of Little Elm - the road YMCA is on) thru Brushy and points beyond without repeating too much and without too much gravel/pavement. Failed. Brushy itself only has ~30 miles if you don't repeat too much. So, in order: From my house YMCA trail at top->Snail->Dave's ditch->Rimjob->Deception backwards->over the damn and down backside->gumdrop->Walshtrail to Suburban->Christchurch section->Boat->Apartments section of Suburban to Redhorn->East side of Suburban (including offshoot loop trail->back thru Walshtrail->gumdrop->white rabbit->up and over the dam->Peddlers->mulligan->Picnic->rimjob->dave's ditch. That totaled ~30. I tacked on some rogue trails that have popped up on the other side of 183 around the lake back there beside the apartment complex then back to the house. Grand total=43.6. Heat was getting bad at 2pm, so I pulled the plug. Oh well, on a suggestion, will have to roll in Wilco park trails north of 1431, so that should total 50. Next time.

I posted awhile ago asking about the mid drive conversion kits on our texas rocks. No one had any experience with them, so I bit the bullet and bought a bafang bbs02 mid drive kit. The plan was to install it on my canfield EPO which my daughter and wife would ride. We live at the bottom of a steep hill and they simply cant climb the hill. The kit installed very easily there were only a couple of glitches. 1) anything under the bottom bracket can potentially block the motor from sliding in. The EPO has bash guard tabs and i had to use a hacksaw to cut it off and a dremel to smooth it down. Probably could have used the dremel to cut it off, but i wanted to take my time. 2) The downtube is curved so the battery pack needs something custom to fit in the triangle. A lot of triangles wouldnt fir the battery 3) My bottom bracket width is 73. The motor is best designed for 68 but does work for 73. I had to go buy two m6X20 cap head bolts and 10 washers to fill some gaps. There is a retaining cap in the form of a shimano bottom bracket diameter that cant be used. 4) lots of cables everywhere Once the motor is in the bottom bracket, you mount the battery then plug in a few cables. The crank arms are square taper (included) The controller has the following optional connections: throttle (it is standard, but I did not install) mechanical brake motor stop (mechanical levers with interface cables are included, did not install) hydraulic brake motor stop (optional, hasnt arrived yet) gear shift motor stop (optional, did not buy) The motor starts up when you pedal. If you stop pedaling the motor will cutoff after a second. When you pedal backwards the motor cuts off immediately. I was able to ride up far west at around 20mph. Pedaling definitely helps and you can decide how much effort you want to apply. The standard controller has 5 settings (0-4) that set the speed at that setting. You can probably control lag times and other behavior. I started to try riding cat to see if the motor would get smashed, but the battery is just strapped on and kept sliding around. Riding on the road was pretty amazing. Ill post once I get the battery properly mounted and have a chance to ride on a trail. I read about a newer middrive motor the "revel" which can hang at the same level as the bottom bracket so could be a better choice. If you have a spare bike laying around a conversion is pretty cool. With the options I got, I think it was $950.

It's crazy how many big bass there are on that creek! I'm always surprised I don't see more anglers out there.

@ St.BernardoI did 3 rides this past weekend on this new setup. I had this frame since 11/2015 . So it is very different now that I changed. I'm very happy and think it was a good move. I did the 60MM stem and gravel specific wide bars from PNW. New calipers , TRP Spyre SLC. And TRP RRL levers. The levers are brake only since the drivetrain is SS. New rubber is coming this week. But yea.. she is alot of fun to ride and not too much coin to swap. I can also remove the calipers and cockpit and swap back to flat bars and my Mt brakes if I so choose. Local isn't limited, it's quite huge actually. But as @ATXZJ pointed out, small distilleries are more expensive than the big ones, with just a few exceptions. If they are similarly priced to established whiskies, then that definitely means they're quite young. Although the TX heat seems to accelerate aging somewhat, so it sometimes works out. I haven't grabbed it yet, but the new Balcones Bourbon is only about $35. I like Balcones quite a lot, and I'll get that bottle in the next few weeks. I don't have super high hopes, but I've only heard good feedback on it so far. Not bourbon, but another good very local whisky is the Spirit of Texas Pflugerville Single Malt, which runs about $40. A couple of years ago they were at a whisky festival and I had the chance to try it, and was really impressed--enough that I got a bottle a couple of weeks later.
