  4. Changes to make it more fun are always the way to go. Personally I could care less about the KOM. Don't get me wrong I like looking at the Strava segments but unless I'm racing or doing a Trainerroad stationary workout I almost never push 100% for any real length of time. Trail time is about having fun and developing skills on tech stuff.

  5. Nursing homes gets clicks & views because we all love our grandma & grandpa and can also be dismissive and say.....well they were old. We also have family in assisted/hospice and thats a total mess right now. Agree on the prison situation. Was there testing prior to release? A place for them to go for quarantine and beyond? As the parent of a teenager with a heart condition, I can say we are pretty tuned into news/data regarding kids and covid. Can easily get really scary and just have to step away. I have friends & family that work in education from campus to state governance levels, and all are very concerned about the upcoming school year.

  6. This is all hypothetical. Suppose there is a trail that has been around for four years. It's been ridden by 400 Strava different riders. But it's not a great trail. It gets you from here to there so it's a good connector. That's why it's used a lot. But it's not a lot of fun. Mostly just mileage out in the country. What is your opinion on reworking that trail to be more fun and in the process maybe making it a little longer? Are you going to be offended that your KOM is no longer relevant? Are you going to try and reopen the closed down boring, straight, and poorly planned down a fall line (erosion problem) trail?

  10. I'd be taking a very close look at that Izzo if I was in the market for a new everyday bike. The Canyon Neuro and Pivot Trail 429 would probably also be on the short list.

  11. A company came out and looked awhile ago. They dont have the compressor or the condenser and said it will be sometime next week , maybe. But they will call us back when they can. I describe myself as sticky and numb right now Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

  12. When I first make a trail it typically just goes straight through. I try to make a complete loop as quickly as possible. Then start to take individual sections and make them better. Straight through is boring.

  13. A similar topic came up in a conversation recently and I'm interested in surveying the responses to see if they're different than what's been posted here, on Mojo, and elsewhere in the past. I'll take a flyer though: It depends, right? I assume you're thinking of somewhere in the SATN - there certainly are many trails there that match your description. The SATN doesn't - and correct me if I'm wrong - have the sort of stewardship governance that trails like Slaughter Creek, etc. have. So everything is kinda tenuous and ad-hoc. Some good (Thanks for the mini ramps, whomever), some bad (sanitizing, widening, and other blandification - please stop.). Certainly there are different opinions on what is fun, safe, etc. You're kinda left with consulting with some like-minded folks publicly or privately for a sanity check. Kinda just like you're doing here. Personally, I think the strongest argument for such change that you've listed is erosion repair/mitigation of fall line trails. Those guys are just going to get worse and we should, as a community, be advocates for sustainable trail construction. Again personally, I don't care about the Strava stuff. Anyways, whomever's KOM wouldn't be made irrelevant - it'd be made permanent. 🙂 I'm much more interested in trails being fun, challenging, and most importantly, still there tomorrow.

  14. with Strava starting to charge you for comparing your times to the other Freds, does that part matter? boring trails are boring. If I wanted to get from A to B, I'd ride on the road.

  15. Used to see one on my bike commute route for years. It was in the garden home hood when pop out of WC along fence at the end of Swearingen. It was one of those little beggers that would stop if you stopped to see if you were going to feed him. If you got a gimmick, use it!

  18. Probably thinking of Pizza Factory? So this isn't my first rodeo in St. George. I've been there a couple of times, once for the Southern Utah Half Marathon and the other for a climbing trip. I just haven't had a chance to actually bring my bike along. My plan so far is to check out most of the major trails in the area (Bearclaw Poppy, Gooseberry, etc.) early in the morning when its in the 60s. I did a long motorcycle ride through Arizona last year when it was 100+. Crazy how fast I went through water. If all else fails I'll head to Cedar City. I'll let you guys know how it goes! Haha and yes you're on your own for Brushy conditions. Bunch of slackers!

  20. I set up a quick and dirty google doc with the types and numbers you need so people can check off what they are bringing. Wouldn't be much help if four of us only brought a bunch of 2x12s and none of the others. Also, where to drop off and what times would be best? Just drive down the fire road? Do we need to walk it all from the church parking lot? For folks that want to contribute just plug in your name(similar to what I did) in and what you'll bring. @El Gringo I just put in some random amounts. Please edit and add what you think will be needed and then folks can just fill in what they can bring and you'll end up with what you need and not eleventy billion 2x4s and no 2x12s. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-q6-2HA7cSH414l3q__Ccftn5IKls3shZcgleZGqnew/edit?usp=sharing

  28. We used to go through 2-3 of those a year at work. I've anchored them to the ground with masonry screws right through the feet into a slab, only to watch it tumbleweed down a car lot😆 The best ones have the blow off panels up top. Also, smaller is better.

  29. I agree it is odd that they have really only broadcasted about nursing home deaths. If they're releasing prisoners, are there actually prisons elsewhere that are packed with people with covid? Why don't we ever hear about children coming down with it?
    1 point
  30. Problem is, "only the old, poor and incarcerated will get it" attitude from state and federal governments is overlooking one crucial detail. Children. The people infected have children, which will go to school, maybe your kid's school, and spread the virus to students, parents, faculty or other staff members, who also have families. The state leaders are aware that places like elementary schools are one of the largest vectors of virus transmission, but are marching forward with business as usual plans even though they were advised to do otherwise. Schools are the daycares of the working class, and they have to get kids butts in seats in order to get the cash rolling again (which it wont). Just wait till' suburban taylor or tyler or sklyer and kyler gets covid. These attitudes will change real fast. Totally agree on the mismanagement and misinformation. It's certainly been amateur hour at best

  31. @First Blood @Morealice Chad, Brett, and Jesse - we flagged Gum Drop on Feb 11 (day I re-rupture my Achilles), Mike and Josh punched through the end on March 3rd!!! I know Jesse and Chad did a lot of work in the shitty bits full of vines and swamp...there are some curse words said about that stuff and "Eric's gimp ass", and "Mark Sanchez will only tread and not do real work", LOL. In Sacnhez's (aka @Morealice ) defense he WAS the brains behind Gum Drop, minus the sick wooden bits.

  34. One of my golfing buddies, who is 67 (OLD guy!), told me he is going to buy a RadWagon ebike. He owned a motorcycle for most of his life but doesn't anymore. He said he misses riding and being outdoors and that this would be a good substitute. He thinks he will go to the store with it too. So that will save a car trip. And it will also make one more citizen that is concerned about bike lanes.
