  3. Thanks for the input - that is his data, it draws from the same source. The reason I put it on my site is because he asked me to put it on the site. A lot of people from out of town hit my site when deciding to come here (in addition to all of the people in Austin). With 2-300 visitors per day, it's good exposure. Not everyone has Facebook. I'm not trying to over-ride other people's efforts, jut trying to tie them together.

  4. 9 months after buying a new frame my super-slow bike build is actually looking like a bicycle. Still need to shorten hoses and cables, which I’ll probably manage to procrastinate over for another couple of weeks.

  5. OK, the folks at AB World Headquarters finally figured this out. I won't get into the technical details, but let me just say that I hate my publishing engine most days. Anyway, there is not a main menu link to trail conditions and this page will pull from the Google docs. I also added the Facebook link at the bottom. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to chime in. http://www.austinbike.com/index.php/austin/375-trail-conditions Thanks to @crazyt for putting this together and maintaining it.

  10. Yeah, spent a lot of time in Germany and the main thing I learned is that it is far from a homogenous country. Nobody is *really* German unless you are outside of the country. Inside it is all about your region. I remember driving from Munich to Tübingen with someone who was actually Schwabish. When I told her my family came from the area around Künzeslau in the state of Baden-Württemberg suddenly she was my best friend. Going on and on about this and that, didn't have the heart to explain that we left ~150 years prior so my broken German was about as much connection as we had left. Also, as a topping on the day, some marketing manager cried. Yeah, we finished that day up with plenty of beer in Munich. To some degree it would be like assuming that Texans are all the same. Tell someone from Austin that they are like Houston, or someone from Dallas that they might know your buddy from the valley and you'll start a fight real fast.

  12. Lol, of course I am! No, really I don't know what to make of it all. Watching some of these videos, it's easy to see why everyone is so confused.

  13. The twins might be bored. There are longhorn cattle all over the place and a pond. I think people fish, not sure if they swim there (I wouldn't). Trails are good for beginners IMO. Just make sure he's good on brake modulation before you go down gas pass.

  14. Back when Shimano released their first set of Saint breaks, they shipped with some pretty low quality seals in the calipers. It wasn't a problem for the vast majority of users, but if you rode with them in temperatures below about 25 degrees, the calipers would leak and push mineral oil all over the pads. I tried baking them, and that didn't do anything. So I just put their little metal tab in a vice and heated them for a couple of minutes with a propane torch, until they would stop smoking and glow bright orange. Then a little more still. I had those brakes for about 3 or 4 years, and got myself into and out of that situation several times per year. I never bothered sanding them or anything. I just reinstalled them and they performed exactly like new pads, in that they needed a short break-in period. After that, they were back to normal. The only risk, other than it not working, is that conceivably you could heat the pad enough to delaminate from the backing. But I never had that problem.

  16. "Anyone Know Chris_in_atx?" Sure I know him, that son of a bitch owes me money!! I'm kidding. I don't know him. But people suck sometimes. I think that 90% of people are good. The problem is the other 10% keep reaffirming that "people suck sometimes"

  20. Well I'm 99.9% it is was not a misunderstanding. Apparently some people just don't give a shit about others once they get what they want. They're also not aware of how much info is out on the internet. Luckily I'm not an ass. I could have called his girlfriend's parents saying I was looking for him because he ripped me off. That would have been an uncomfortable 6 months. But I'm not that guy. And, yeah, 30 minutes on the Google and I had their number.

  21. I visited Garner State Park a few weeks ago. the swimming is good and I doubt the river is low enough to be an issue right now. there's a private RV park called Nana's on the other side of the river.

  22. I agree with AB and Mac. SS is alot of fun and I rarely need or miss gears. I took my HT and lost the gears after 1 ride and went 32x19. I've since move to 32x16. It is great on the trails. Got bored and added the drops and switched to mechanical brakes. Bike is so much more fun to ride. So simple to maintain and experiment with. The drops I chose are wider than most and I get less fatigue on longer rides. I still have the flat bar and stem intact with the brakes attached so I can easily swap back if I ever want. Fun project and I am super pleased to get away from the norm to change things up. Ride it alot at BC but it's at home all over something like SN Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

  23. Note to self: Don't get in a car with Chief. 😉 And what a smart thing to bring up, the risks taken as mountain bikers. All of this is a risk/reward decision.

  25. Got out on the trail around 6:30pm last night when it appeared that we would elude any heavy rains. It was remarkably cool with nice breezes, albeit humid. Was the perfect opportunity to attack Double Down, which I've been avoiding during the summer heat. Rode relentlessly for a couple of hours with a single water bottle and no ill effects from heat. Also only ran into one other rider. Not sure if we'll avoid heavy rains again today but if so I'll probably be getting some more tonight.

  27. It just keeps going on. Also, when you think you're halfway through, you're really only maybe a third or a quarter through. Fun way to do a virtual opening, though.

  28. Had a few Dos Equis then swung by Taqueria Guadalajara for takeout fajitas and a “small” frozen margarita with my friends (pictured). My friends and I are moving (with their mother) in 5 days. We are jazzed up about living in the mountains. We will miss Taqueria Guadalajara though.
