  5. Wife and I hit madrone yesterday after a three year hiatus. Trail looks a little rough and there's a lot more bypasses and cut throughs than before. Particularly in the first 2-3 miles, and that can be a little confusing at times. Maybe the victim of strava? Lots of overgrowth and face slappers on the dock side. Looks like the combination of more use in some areas, and lack of maintenance in others. Ride was still fun and was able to huck a few of the drops that I rolled before. We also tried parking/dropping in at the marina this time vs trailhead. Pretty nice alternative.

  6. Can't claim low carbs here. Post-ride Working Class Zero at Red Horn with pizza from next door.

  7. Whoa. So what you're saying is that even dedicated roadies are going the gravel/touring/adventure bike route! šŸ˜‰

  12. Took a couple of first timers out for a lap around the lake yesterday and the trails were in superb condition. Oddly although I've ridden the loop a half dozen times in the past, I ended up veering left at a point just a few miles in from Cedar Breaks that added about a 1.5 mile loop. I was about to do it again a second time when we all stopped, thinking we were going in circles. Sure enough I kept missing the main trail that stays right at that point. The good news is that there is a screaming downhill section on that added loop that is hands down the most fun stretch of trail out there. @Morris Glad we met up out there - couldn't have asked for a better outing on such a nice day. EDIT: You can see the extra small loop on the south side - highly recommend it if you haven't ridden that before. We made up for it on the north side by skipping that little loop through the meadow with the creek crossing. Honestly I never even noticed the turn off for that one - might be overgrown.

  13. Hadn't ever even thought about ordering pizza from that place. Might have to change that. Hmm...maybe Friday for lunch.

  14. I have the Spesh Propero I for the road, and the Tactic III for mtb rides. The Propero does give me a bit of pressure on the forehead if I snug down the retention system too much with my Halo Headband. Otherwise the vents allow every little wiff of air to be felt and amplified. My Tactic vents very well, but doesn't have quite the same "there's an air conditioner on my head" feeling. The Tactic fit though is dialed perfectly for me. It has no pressure points and yet fits so snugly that I could probably ride without the chinstrap buckled and be fine. It does feel like it sits lower on my head, but I think it just has that much more coverage which is nice piece of mind while navigating Ausin's chunk.

  19. Well I guess all the effort to install the frame protection was worth it. Got a small scrape today at Emma on the non-drive side chain stay. No paint damage!

  21. My general rule is thisā€¦if you think your helmet took an impact that saved you from either a debilitating head injury or death, then it is done. I donā€™t care what the helmet looks like. If your thought after the crash is ā€œdamn, Iā€™d probably have a brain injury if it wasnā€™t for this piece of foam!ā€ Then it probably has sacrificed itself for you in ways that might not be visible. ā€¦or you could gamble and count on the same piece of foam to sacrifice itself again just as effectively the next time you go down. 23. Rode this today for the first time... it was a horrible yet fun ride ...I can tell a mtb coach made this Trail, Ken whose plaque is there RIP, because you have to have lungs to make it to the top and technique on the way down ..the switchbacks at speed are tricky, and it's the first place I tried locking out my shock during long climbs... man that is nice I was slipping out way less And I liked beating the hell out of the bell at the top...

  24. Sorry for contributing to the detour on this thread. Seriously though, let's get back to bikes built for CenTex riding. Based on my spreadsheet and the reviews I've looked at, this should be my next bike.
