  1. Well then I'd have to say yes, it might be a little bit too much for a young female racer. When taken into the full context of parameters, your essentially stacking a lot of cards against her: rotating mass, acceleration, moment of inertia, a young female's lack of power output, bike vs rider weight combo, etc.. All that said, if the bikes fits her properly then I'd say let her go at it and see how much fun she has with the events. If she takes to it all, then you might try sourcing a lighter weight wheel set and a lighter set of tires for racing. The one place I think its very appropriate to be a weight weenie is with kids/youth bikes. When you factor in the ratio of bike vs rider 1lb of weight savings can be notable. I.e. a 75 lb rider on a 25 lb bike is comparable to me at 165 lbs being on a 54 lb bike. Kids are just small, their body's are under-developed, and they can't put out the watts to move the proportional weight around efficiently. But I will say that if she's having fun it REALLY DOESN"T MATTER. Cheers, CJB

  2. Not that I was ever skeptical about the strength of carbon rims but a recent experience really showed me the abuse they can take. About a month ago a guy drop off a 2016 Pivot with carbon rims for a tuneup. During my inspection, I noticed that the spokes were really loose. “Really loose” is probably an understatement. Every single spoke was reading a big fat 0 on my tension meter. I ended up having to undo all of the spokes, re-tension, re-dish, and re-true both wheels. Even after being ridden with no tension for god knows how many miles, the rims were spinning perfectly true after being rehabilitated. No way aluminum rims would be in such good shape after such abuse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  7. Now I feel like you might actually be flirting with me.... I looked strongly at a Mazda5 a good while back. I liked how they were a tad smaller and you could get them in a manual transmission. That said, my family has owned 4 odysseys and they were all pretty great (except for earl model trans issues). The 05 & 09' ones we had were down right fun to drive. It would drive smooth and comfortablly near triple digit speeds on the desolate roads of West TX and NM.

  8. The only reason I look at times is a loose tab on my own fitness and to compete against my younger self. I in no way will ever be rude or put another trail user in danger to pick up a new PR🤪

  9. Am I the only person that tracks rides/miles on Strava religiously, but has never even looked at time? I have no idea when my fastest times at any local trails are. Going faster never really occurs to me. Maybe because I grew up riding in places with LONG climbs, then long downhills. It was success to ride the entire climb. I've never had a tire wider than 2.4. I think my Bronson can go wider. I may have to try when I need tires again.

  11. Good luck man and keep us updated. For what it's worth, I got carbon rims (Lite Bicycles) for my hardtail 29+ bike and I really like them. I don't really notice the weight savings (which was significant) but I do notice the toughness and ability to stay true despite being smashed through rock gardens with no shock. It was a good upgrade and I'd do it again.

  12. Hate to admit, if I didn't need a truck for my work, I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat.

  13. Yes minivans are awesome. I wanted a souped up Mazda5. This guy Jason Saini made a Mazda5 with the speed3 engine in it for the One Lap of America track attack series. I would love a souped up Odyssey sleeper--in more than one sense of the word!

  14. Define racer? Does 10th place at the Excrutiation Exam endurance race qualify me as a racer? https://www.tmbra.org/results/marathon_18/warda/cm40.html What about 4th at the Dragon Slayer? If so then yes, racers use 3.0 tires. If one has to have a pro license and be paid sponsorship money in order to feed their families, then NO they don't race them. Hope this helps. 🙂 -CJB

  18. It is shameful that folks can't pack their s#!te out! Spent a couple hours cleaning trash between mopac and Balcones today. I was planning to clear snow downed junipers off the creek side trail in Balcones and ended up with 2 trash bags full. Got the trees cleared too.
