  3. Honestly, I am willing to bet the alloy wheels just were not built well enough and pretensioned enough before riding. It's not as much of an issue with a carbon hoop, but with an alloy rim, you HAVE to tension and detension correctly during the build up. I'm happy to look at your rear wheel and see how it looks with regards to tensioning.

  7. There's a Texas Gravel group on Facebook. The shop fka BSS hosts Holey Roller and they appear to have some gravel training rides. Capitol City Racing has all their routes available on their site. I have some south Austin mixed-surface routes that are good for gravel bikes. Much of SATN is rideable on a gravel bike if you know which gnarly segments to avoid. The same goes for Walnut Creek.

  10. This statement is wring loud in my mind as my oldest son is a Sr in HS and is about to head off for college. He still is willing (and says he enjoys) riding with me (and his younger brother. I was out there with on of my boys this afternoon. And since this is the parent bragging thread....

  13. In my experience, when running tubeless, Carbon rims are notorious for pinch flats on the rear. I have never had a tubeless pinch flat on an alloy rim. (although i'm sure its possible) Personally, i solved this issue by going to Maxxis DD casing in the rear and keeping my pressure up. But, i wouldn't assume the change from HT to FS made much difference regarding pinch flats.

  14. That would be great. I think I read somewhere on here that you are a great wheel builder. I will PM you.

  16. Any lacing differences (# crosses) between your HT carbon wheels and your FS alloy wheels? How about tension limits on the rims and hubs? Any differences there? Finally, spoke prep? I had a setup with a powertap hub and Stans alloy rims I could never keep tensioned due to tension limits from the hub. This was a wheel build from a good and experienced wheelbuilder. I only solved the problem when I changed the lacing pattern as recommended by the PT hub.

  17. I'd leave as is and install one of these to address the pinch flats etc https://www.vittoria.com/us/en/bike-accessories/tire-inserts Beyond that, Ex 511 DT

  18. It's also super fun too. Every time I'm out there, I miss my cross bike. Speaking of which, looks like nukeproof of all companies, has a couple affordable options. Probably wont be in stock for a year at this rate😒 https://nukeproof.com/collections/adventure/products/2021-digger?variant=35459277848730

  20. Rode SN down to Brushy and back this afternoon. I was really surprised at how many dads and kids were out riding some legit trails with legit bikes with legit smiles. Making memories Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

  21. Figured I'd post this in the kids thread instead of pay it forward. Have a leftover drivetrain from my kids 2016 NICA season, free to good kid's cause. 11-36 SLX cassette. 785 XT, 675SLX and a 10spd chain with link. Run a 30 or 28t up front and you'll be G2G.

  23. Ok, to keep up the personal experience stories.... I've been riding a bit less lately through this winter. I consider technical stuff my strength, but I've been a bit rusty lately and I'm finding my need to stay sharp less important. (all that is a disclaimer for what's next) Back before Xmas I took my older and younger boys to ride Revelie Peak for the first time. We had a good time and everyone enjoyed it. We all sessions the jump & flow lines over on the west side of the property. We then chose to ride to the top of decision point. It was suggested to us to come back down Super D. I was just in chill-mode coming down Super D and pulled up short towards the lower section on a techie narrow step down (followed shortly by a big roll-in). We all stopped and looked at it and I said, "yeah, I could do it but I'm cool with walking it today"......my 11 yr old says, "I can do this, I'm gonna go back up and give it a go". My initial thought was that he was going to eat $hit. But I let him go (and learn) on his own. As he comes into it he's all out of position and can't get to the line. He bails. (I thought that might be it) Nope, he goes back up and tries again. This time rocking the whole thing (albeit not too smoothly). As we all promptly ride away together, he comments to me, "heck, I'm even on little wheels dad...". I contemplate to myself going back and riding it so that I can save some face. But I decided that he can have that little victory over his old-man. And it truly was. I'll forever, remember this day because I'm certain there will be many more to come.

  24. Saturday my ride plans were hijacked by my Son demanding to join me. So much for hitting big trails and miles. Instead we loaded up and went to Walnut. He did his own personal longest ride at 6.15 miles. Lots of sitting around to rest. But he had a great time. He's done Peddlers, but I think he liked .6 and some of the WC trails more. Will go back on a week day afternoon with less dog and foot traffic. He is super timid on going down stuff, but he has no problem climbing and picking solid lines going uphill. It was also a great opportunity for him to work on gear changes, so a win all around. After a good ride I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the start of a legit wheelset for him - 24" Velocity Dyad rims on Sun Ringle disc hubs. Should shave a couple lbs and let us throw the 1x9 set up on the bike. Pic from peddlers last month.

  25. Just now, I heard that someone tore down the blockade and fence on the old Bob Ross trail section and pitched it into the woods! Apparently towards the Rim side. Just heard about it. received_429425584927299.webp
