  1. Well the hell with that strategy. Shit was just too good. Found the LLS open and restocked for a second night cap. The Four Roses SB is everything I hoped for, and I'm sure that @Barry's recommended Rare Breed will be pleasurable as well.

  2. Down to mere scraps in my last 2 bottles of "bourbon" so decided on a border-blend of Kentucky and Tennessee to produce a double-shot, neat for my final night of frigidness. Will celebrate some sunshine tomorrow with a trip to the liquor store.

  4. 79 hours without power and 30 hours (and counting) without water didn't stop me from getting in at least 1 good Walnut snow ride. This was the only time I was ever nervous about the Mark's Art log over! Riding in Walnut Wonderland. Breaking trail on .6. The good news is that all the deadfall from the first ice event and the first snow event (so until Wednesday morning) was cleared. I haven't been back since Tuesday so I don't know what the second ice event brought down.

  5. I know there are quite a few of you that live close to me. I am thinking this may be a good place to share very current info. Like if you are at a store or just got back. i.e. - Went by HEB at Spicewood Springs/183 30 minutes ago and the lines weren't too bad but all they had was ice, potato chips and bud light - HEB at Parmer & McNeil had lines around 2 sides of the building at noon but we waited for an hour and they had a decent amount of produce, bread and meat, etc. I get the feeling it will be an arduous process over the next few days trying to get back to a decent place, I figured we should help each other out. Don't want to sift through all the BS on FB, etc. And don't want people driving around too much wasting time/gas (which may also be in short supply). I know a lot of folks live in the Cedar Park area, perhaps that is another thread, etc. Just an idea.

  6. Bonus points for @throet for calling (the super good barrel proof) JD, "bourbon." Those in the know, know it's not. Those really in the know, know it is. Those really, really in the know, know it's not. Those really, really, REALLY in the know, know it is...etc.

  8. I read gasoline supply is fine but just couldn't deliver because of the road conditions. That should normalize soon. NW Balcones houses up the hill have not water in 48+ hours. We had a trickle yesterday and none today. We have tons of containers and we're filling up with ice, snow, and roof drip. We always have lots of frozen, dry, and canned food so we should be OK for a while as far as food. Boiling water is a pain. It really makes you appreciate all the things you take for granted normally. My wife is going to go donate blood since roads are clear and she just feels like she needs to do something. We may go help handout water too. As things thaw out, keep an eye out for leaks. I had a burst pipe yesterday--thankfully not in the wall. I couldn't get a new fitting in b/c the tube was out of round but I was able to machine a plug and get it on mostly OK (torch kept flaming out b/c of the cold last night!).

  9. HEB is doing a better job of handling this than any politician. They didn't even think about going to Cancun.

  12. I haven't had any of that in ages, probably since some wedding or other 15-20 years ago. We used to drink it with coke.

  18. Parmer and MoPac HEB had a 60 person line that took about 30 mins. Had enough food to make the trip worth it. No water. Limited bread and dairy.

  20. I walked in Dick Nichols some. One of the trails I could barely even recognize because of all the trees and branches everywhere. Couldn't even walk past it at one point. It's going to take a lot of work to get the trails back in shape. But almost as bad as the tree damage is how muddy the trails are going to be. Muddy for a long time too. The slowly seeping melt is going to be perfect for making even hard packed trails, trails that usually shed the rain and dry out, stay muddy. I'm guessing eight more days, next Saturday, if we're lucky.

  21. I checked out SATN stuff near Davis and MOPAC. Did not walk far because that seemed risky. Definitely saw some downed trees on the Violet Crown Trail and Bambi area felt very tight with all the low hanging branches. Time will tell if some.ofnthat springs back or if we're going to need to cut it back.

  23. My stepson works in a hospital in southern California. He passed all of the body temp screenings, but a Covid test came back positive. He had no idea he had it. My FIL lives with him and got pretty sick. He's recovered and has no lingering effects. I think the number of people that have had it is a LOT higher than anyone knows.
