A trail dozer is similar in size to a skid steer. For now I'm looking to cut in a path for the wife as she's not as adventurous. It'd be a couple hundred feet. Plus I want to cut in a small pond, about 4000 gallon. With the site slope, I'd really just be building up a berm. View from the back of the lot3 points

For my birthday in a couple of weeks, my wife got us tickets to the Dazed and Confused reunion show at Lakeline Alamo Drafthouse. I cannot emphasize how much I'm looking forward to this. Going to Alamo Drafthouse was my top thing to go do after I got vaccinated. I think I'll take a Lyft to and from so I can drink all the beers and not worry about getting home.3 points

this. when I was a bike shop tech, I took meticulous notes on all bikes in the service department. I checked them every day, which was not a difficult task. if a bike was waiting for authorization for work, I'd call the customer every few days if they didn't pick up the first time. if the bike was sitting for more than a week while waiting on parts, I'd call once a week to let them know we didn't forget about them. if the bike was finished and needed to be picked up, I'd call once a week, partially because bikes in "storage" with new parts and labor sunk into them don't make any money for the shop! most shops threaten customers who leave their bikes with "storage fees" but I have never seen those enforced. in extreme cases, the shop would just claim ownership of the bike (there are specific legal precedents for this that also apply to "abandoned" vehicles, computers, lawn equipment, etc. left at repair services) and a shop employee would buy the bike from the shop for the cost of the parts installed. I did this more than once. I would leave the date and my initials in the computer or on the paper work order with notes about each interaction, "left voice message" "spoke with customer" or details about what we needed to do. A few times, a customer would call three – six months after we finished their bike was already finished asking if it was done. I the most polite way possible, I would tell them that I've left multiple messages on their voicemail. (this was a few years ago and text/email notifications probably work better now.) sometimes I called a home phone and spoke with a child or spouse who didn't relay the message, but I covered the shop's ass with my notes. if they didn't believe me, I'd rattle off the dates. there's no excuse for leaving someone hanging for weeks on end.2 points

If you are going to watch it again, you need to do it with Soju. https://www.totalwine.com/spirits/soju/jinro-chamisul-original/p/134828750?s=514&igrules=true You'll thank me later.2 points

I'm piggy-backing onto your thread here because I think you found out the reason why I get the really bad hotfoot on my old road bike. Both MTB and road versions of Shimano SPD puts the center in the same spot. But my road bike Q-factor is ~156mm while my MTB QF is 180mm. I can ride my MTB for 12+ hours but my road bike at 4+ hours was painful. I'll check my gravel bike soon too.1 point

monoclonal antibodies as the name suggests are a single clone of a b cell line that produces an antibody that is targeted towards one binding site. Mutant virus may or may not have a mutation in that binding site. If they do, then the monoclonal antibodies wont be as effective.1 point

I ignored the $1 adds on Craigslist. Guess I should not have. When I had my business, I bought a 20+ year old forkluft and it ran like a champ. Figured I would do the same with a small dozer. Buying an old used machine and reselling a few months later is cheaper and more convenient than renting.1 point

that might be the most Austin-specific post-pandemic plan I have ever heard. be sure to complain about toll roads and California transplants and eat some breakfast tacos that day.1 point

Dangit, my second shot got postponed until Monday due to the weather forecast for tonight. I guess I abstained from alcohol last night for no reason. 😐1 point

It's amazing how this one thing can make or break a relationship. I know things happen, and timelines can shift but...just let me know, don't make me go looking for updates.1 point

I typed the whole story out, but it felt icky throwing a shop under the bus on the internet. Long story short: over promised, under delivered, no proactive communication, 6 weeks with no bike, which would've been 9 weeks with no bike had I not been calling weekly.1 point

(I'm recording this for my own benefit more than anyone else's.) quick phone camera video and some measuring with an app called Angleus tells me that my knee flexes to about 145° at the bottom of my pedal stoke, which is healthy but I could stand to lower the saddle a tiny bit. at the top of the stroke, the knee angle cinches in to 75°, which is on the tight side. If I raise my saddle, I'll be straining to reach the bottom of the pedal stroke and hurting my knees, but the top of the stroke will be better. if I lower the saddle, the bottom of the stroke might still be healthy but the top will get even more pinched. this is why crank length matters. I am now in the market for a 170mm crankset.1 point

Yeah it seems like most folks with a 35mm clamp have it because it came on a new bike; so the likelihood of somebody having some laying around is low. Even if somebody swapped out what came on the bike, chances are that would not be more than a 25mm rise - max. @horncpa You might want to seek out somebody who has a 31.5mm clamp stem with accompanying high-rise bars you could borrow - probably a better chance of success there.1 point

OK, cert done. Server forces to HTTPS now. All is right in the world. Also, my network controller did not explode, other than about 2 minutes where the wifi stopped AFTER the wife was awake. All successful IT migrations happen before anybody wakes up in the house.1 point

Just started watching The Hunters on prime. Not bad kinda Tarantinoish. Jordan Peele directed it. I'll have to check out War Of The Worlds.1 point

I felt fine the day I got the J&J. Woke up next morning with chills and headache. Chills went away and some Tylenol helped the headache. Felt good enough to get a ride in. Got home from ride and was knocked on my ass, body aches, headache and mild fever. I didn't even get a fever when I had Covid. Injection site is still tender.1 point

The 35mm stem clamp might make this request a bit difficult. Seems people aren't as open to the 35mm clamp as some other bike standards. I run 35 on my bike and have been looking around a bit for bars with more sweep but there's not much out there that I like.1 point

All the cases were women and may possibly be related to a rare genetic variant. I'd like to point out that there are six cases THAT ARE KNOWN. The complications appear a week or two after inoculation; it's entirely possible that there are many more cases that weren't identified as being related to the J & J vax.1 point

I got the J&J Saturday. All of the six cases were all women ages 18-48 typically the age of women on birth control. Certain birth control pills have their own rate of potential blood clots. 1 in 1million chance for getting CVST(cerebral venous sinus thrombosis) from J&J is very low considering 5 in 1million is how many people are affected each year by CVST. Whenever you consider becoming a conspiracy theorist just follow the money. 😉1 point

Rode road bikes for so many years it just became "on your left". Road bikers don't typically encounter hikers.😁1 point
-
I think many trail walkers have no idea what that means. I'll say "excuse me, coming up on your left" or something similar. It's annoying when you have to yell. And when they act startled I'm thinking, no shit, turn down your headphone volume idiot.1 point

Moderna Shot #2 tomorrow evening at the Stadium by Brushy. Hopefully it remains dry as I plan to do a moderate ride beforehand. I busted my arse this week in case I am down for the count Friday. I am far enough ahead at work that I do not plan to use PTO if I miss most (or all) of Friday. Fingers crossed.1 point

For anyone that think that the vaccines were not safe or were rushed, this should be evidence all the proper steps are being followed through the 3 trial phases as well as mass deployment. Just like with the Astra Zeneca/Oxford, I'm positive they will find that the incidence of blood clots is no greater than the general population. I think with Astra Zeneca they even found that it was lower incidence than the gen pop. And you nailed it regarding COVID19 actually causing blood clots at a pretty high incidence. So the risk of clots from the vaccine is minuscule compared to getting clots from COVID19 (this auto-corrected to minuscule, but I'd always spelled it miniscule which is a variant from the 19th century and considered wrong. I learned something today) I participated in the VacSafe survey. One day I had the runs. I was pretty sure it was from one of those bagged salads (my son also did not feel well) but I still reported it. It's how you get the "possible side effects" stuff on drugs. It's not definite, but they have to list it. My wife was telling me APH has a lot of appointments open. They are using Moderna.1 point

Something isn’t adding up will the J&J vaccine. The national media are reporting that it is being paused due to 6 cases of blood clots within 2 weeks of people taking the vaccine. Being that they have already administered 7 million doses that would mean less than a 1 in 1million chance of getting a blot clot with the dose, which is much less than the 1 in 500,000 chance you have of getting struck by lightning. Not to mention that a blood clot is common complication of having COVID 19. So I’m not sure what the logic is unless they FDA and CDC is not disclosing something. I can’t wait for this chapter to be over it’s turning me into a conspiracy theorist😂1 point

Got my 2nd Pfizer shot yesterday. Knocked me on my ass this morning. Chills, aches, just general shitty feeling. Starting to feel better now, though.1 point

I think some people may not actually know what the full phrase is. I say the whole phrase, "passing on your left" to prevent this confusion on their part.1 point

I got my 2nd Moderna shot a couple days ago. It knocked me the hell out for about 6 hours. Like, I couldn't move and sweat and shivered and was nauseous and had ringing in my ears. Then suddenly I felt better hour by hour. By the end of the day I was only fatigued. I went to bed early and woke up feeling totally normal and went on a hard ride later that afternoon and felt great. So strange. I never got Covid that I'm aware of. Being a public school teacher and in class from day one with a classroom full of kids I feel very lucky. I can't wait to go give my Dad a HUGE hug.1 point
