  1. DD was fine but not ideal. Snail was a mess and needs more time to dry out. I didn't even try Rim. It's funny how you get on the bike at 6:30pm and head to the trail with the wind in your face flying down Little Elm. You're thinking, "this is going to be a sweet ride". Then half way through DD and you feel like you're in a tropical rainforest. You're now thinking to yourself, "why am I still sitting in the saddle with this feature right in front of me"? Still, you get through it, get home, slam a couple of Hopadillos, and have no regrets about getting in some exercise. Not sure I'll be doing it in Jul-Aug, but for now, life is good!

  2. Jonny Kim is one for sure. Kim enlisted in the Navy as a Seaman recruit after graduating high school in 2002. After completion of Hospital Corpsman “A” school training, he reported to Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training in Coronado, CA. After completing his training at Naval Special Warfare, Kim reported to John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School in Fort Bragg, NC for the Special Operations Combat Medic Course. He was assigned as a Special Warfare Operator to SEAL Team THREE Charlie Platoon in San Diego, California and obtained various qualifications including Military Freefall Parachutist, Combatant Diver (closed circuit rebreather), Naval Special Warfare Special Reconnaissance Scout and Sniper, and Advanced Special Operations Techniques. Kim served as a Special Operations Combat Medic, sniper, navigator and point man on more than 100 combat operations spanning two deployments to the Middle East including Ramadi and Sadr City, Iraq. He was commissioned as a naval officer through the Navy’s enlisted-to-officer commissioning program, Seaman to Admiral-21, following graduation from the University of San Diego in 2012. Upon graduation from Harvard Medical School in 2016, Kim began his medical internship with Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency. At the time of his astronaut selection in June 2017, Kim was a resident physician in emergency medicine with Partners Healthcare at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Kim remains on active duty as a Navy Lieutenant at NASA. And yes, that is a SEAL patch on his astronaut uniform.

  4. Getting jealous of all the beautiful i9 wheels that @xl_cheese (Wes) and Velorangutan keeps dropping. I made my own poor man pair. Front left done last night, rear SS tonight. Cheap chinesium straight gage stainless spokes in oil slick and some older Stans Flow. These are on my race SS, which can't take too wide a tire anyway.

  5. I'm really diggin' the new look on the Sago Palm, and amazed at how much growth has literally just sprung up out of the ground in a matter of weeks.

  6. You know that hotdog doing the slow roll on the cooker at your local Sac n Pac? That’s what the chairlift at SM feels like in the summer. Have fun and congrats on the new career.

  9. Interesting. When I set the phone photo format to most compatible (JPG H.264) even that doesn't work. I change the picture to .jpg instead of .JPG and that still doesn't work. I give up.

  12. I bought this set of four interlocking floor mats for <$10 at Harbor Freight. they're about 10mm thick. they're just the right size to be cut in half and trimmed down to fit in the drawers and I'll have a few extras. Here's the SAE drawer. I drew one line with a yard stick along the bottom and started laying out the sockets with even spacing. it's not perfectly square, but it's close enough. I mapped them out on the "back" of the mat so it will look clean when I flip it over. I have some space left over, which might hold some hex keys or something: I've cut out about half of the the socket pockets. this took some trial and error, but I found this to work: put the box that the toolbox came in on a table top. it's four layers of cardboard so you can jab straight through and not worry about dulling the knife on the tabletop or scratching up the surface. extend utility knife blade all the way out (about 1") and start jabbing. cutting out each square takes a steady hand, but you can kind of saw through it to keep from sliding and slicing too far. flip the mat over and carefully cut out the rest of each square nice and clean. ^this socket fits perfectly in this spot. when I flip the mat over, it looks like this: bonus tip: for the very small sockets, cut the hole out about 150% of the length of the socket. they way, you can fit your finger behind the end of the socket to pry it out. you don't want the fit to be too tight so that the sockets fall in and are a challenge to dig out of the pocket.

  13. Blinded By the Light was a fun feel-good movie that I recommend. based on a true story about a Pakistani-English teenager growing up in Thatcher era England who finds meaning in the music of Bruce Springsteen. if you've ever been a Bruce fan, this movie is basically a love letter to The Boss.

  14. The only reason I can think that I would want to park there now was if I was participating in an unsanctioned downhill race on the HOL.

  15. For my birthday in a couple of weeks, my wife got us tickets to the Dazed and Confused reunion show at Lakeline Alamo Drafthouse. I cannot emphasize how much I'm looking forward to this. Going to Alamo Drafthouse was my top thing to go do after I got vaccinated. I think I'll take a Lyft to and from so I can drink all the beers and not worry about getting home.

  16. I finally had to give up on my little sago palm. Still no sprouts as of last week and it was taken over by ants. It gets hauled away in the compost bin roday.
