  2. Herniated disk at L5/S1 (right above hip bone). When it swells bad and compresses my spinal cord it can also shoot down my butt like sciatica. Couple of add ons to all above. For me biking generally helps loosen things up, but I had to get real cognizant about my pedaling. My issues are right at hip so I have to watch my form when I get tired. The habit when glutes get tired is to drive your foot forward by rocking your hips forward. Contorting the spine really aggravates my back. I have to concentrate on driving with my toes to engage my quads more. I started on the road in the 80’s and still have my ancient rollers so I hop on them occasionally to get my pedal stroke even again. Mashing and twisting to get up stuff is a lower back killer. And all the core stuff, don’t just do forward / back motion stuff. Side planks, and the ones where you rotate your hand across your body and under tremendously strengthen side muscles. It really help me when my form breaks down and contort my back so I don’t pay as heavy a toll.

  3. I do a good many of those from my PT sessions. Not the first but the second, rocking backwards on all 4’s, really stretches things though it seems like nothing when you first do it. Video doesn’t tell you to stop going back when your tailbone starts to roll under. I also do one where you press the small of your back into cushion and hold for 30 sec, which is similar to one in video.

  4. late the the party as usual ... but have a going-on 6 yr old pair of Light Bicycle 29er rims -- 30mm ID 35mm OD with their "all mountain" layup of the time. Laced to King hubs, they were under 400 delivered. They outlived the Yeti frameset, and the subsequent SIR9 frameset, and are now on my Nimble9 backup. I've had to wholly replace the spokes twice on the rear wheel and once on the front. Considering I had been replacing a rear alloy rim basically annually and the front every 3-4 years I take this as a win. Those rims got a TON of hard rocky miles in the northeast US and in particular central & NE pennsylvania ... I'll put PA rockiness up as equal- or more abusive to anything in CenTex. I like the idea of the on-shore carbon builders but frankly they're not worth the cost to me ... the LB though are a decent ROI. Their current model is available with asym drilling and updated layup ... got a bonus this year which funded putting some on my current FS. Even with the "all mountain" layout they're 120-150 grams lighter than a Stans Flow Mk4 that would have been my alloy choice. Shoot, they're lighter than the 27.5 Stan's Flow Mk4. We'll see how long they hold up, they've been to NC mountains once but have a steady diet coming up in their CY22 schedule. :^)

  5. use to have back issues back in my early 40's but focusing on core work along with yoga every morning I have been pain free for more than ten years now. Also flexibility has improved overall for myself exponentially, I can easily touch my toes and place my palms on the floor without issue which would have been near impossible 15 years ago.

  6. FWIW my company gives us 40 hours a year to volunteer and go do stuff. I am not one FB nor will I ever be back in it. If someone is in ARR FB and can cross post here for workdays I’m sure I can get 2-3 of us to go help. Thanks for all the work leading these efforts!
