If her bike gets stolen, we basically get enough to cover a new one. One time fee. I have an Abus lock on my commuter. Smaller, easier to handle, but, hey, it's a $400 commuter bike.
  2. Buy a bike from one of their approved dealers. Fill in the paperwork and submit it by the deadline. There is a current one and I think we got $200 or $300. Something to watch for is the tax. We qualified for one level of rebate based on the price of the bike, but the receipt shows slightly over $2k and that pushed us up to a higher level of rebate. It was a pretty straightforward process. Also, if you have a credit card that extends warranty on items purchased (like the Costco Visa) use that. Batteries are one of those things that could be costly and not user friendly in terms of replacement (depending on the bike). My wife's bike has them integrated into the downtube so having additional warranty is really valuable.
  3. I bought an e-bike. For my wife. She loves it. It allows her to ride with me and keep up. Now all of her errands are bike first, car second. It was an amazing transformation. Urban e-bikes are a very viable use case (as I have always said). I'll probably never have one. And definitely not ever a trail bike. As a comparison, that bike is 2X the weight of the bike behind it.
  4. I checked with the folks as AB World Headquarters and they let me know that this trail conditions site is pulled from another kind soul who manages it. @crazyt owns that and he can tell you how to provide updates for RHR. The API automatically updates every 5 minutes so if someone submits the status to his app, 5 minutes later, through a series of tubes, the new result magically shows up on my site.
  5. I am a big fan of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Z1D26CS Charge lasts 6+ months (never tried to go longer) and starts a car perfectly on the first try, no second vehicle or danger involved. Of all of the cheap stuff I have bought on Amazon, this is one I will never give back. The fact that this can also be used as a massive USB battery is a nice side benefit. If you are road tripping or riding alone at remote trailheads, it is a life saver.
  6. Fun day yesterday. My lower back is a little sore, need to get used to that bike. New hangers *should* be here on Monday if the USPS delivers.
  7. I am going to stalk the Facebook group and see if anyone posts up with trail status conditions. Weather Underground is saying .17" of rain, yesterday's trail conditions post said too muddy. We might be in the margins.
  8. Don't own an angle grinder. But there are axes and a 3-lb mallet in the garage. As a network security aficionado I spend a lot of time thinking about the threat matrix and dealing with the corner cases.
  9. That is a really good idea. At this point I am not really worried about how durable the lock is, this is about keeping it from being taken quickly because the door was accidentally left open. My assumption is that once someone gets inside the garage and closes the door, they have access to tools. Mostly wanted to stop someone from walking down the street, seeing someone left the door open, and grabbing the bike.
  10. Basically it was wet on Friday, was too muddy this morning (someone posted it was too muddy) then we had a day with brief rain showers. I was dumped on several times this morning on a ride. I am not holding out hope for trails. I think an urban ride followed by black star will happen.
  11. Saw this and thought of him: "OMG!!!!!111 tHiS wILL ToTaLLy cHaNGe bIKiNg aS wE kNOw iT!!!1111"
  12. Pioneer VSX 455 Stereo Receiver: (Hey, take the speakers above for a full setup!) Sony CDP-325 5-disc CD carousel: What? 5 discs is not enough? Then take my Sony CDP-CX200 200-disc CD changer! It's like having your own private Spotify without the monthly charge:
  13. This guy is a piece of shit. He parked by the 360 Greenbelt entrance for a week. Then when he left, there were mounds of trash and crap that he left behind. Everyone on Reddit thinks this car is sooooooo cool, but he's just a hoarder leaving shit all over the city.
  14. Yes, but to be safe, I recommend lightening your bike a bit so that you don't have any problems. Ditch the gears and you should be fine 😉
  15. Two pair of Sony bookshelf speakers. Will deliver to the R&I if needed
  16. Still working my way through the free Chimay. Takes the sting out of the Bears game:
  17. We picked up a stray. "wise beyond their years" was replaced with "old beyond their years." We thought that was a cute statement. This week we realized that meant "yeah, he's probably 12 or 13 but he has the body of a 15 year old."
  18. My dropper post is practically my wife on some trails.
  19. I don't get it. He told you that they stopped responding to him and you are still interested in going forward? Is this the same company that ghosted him?
  20. Full disclosure: I'm old enough to be your father. Gears and suspension are your friends as you get older.
  21. Also, I am available the week of the 7th through the 11th to be a tour guide (with the exception of Wednesday.) Tuesday needs to be the R&I, so bring your lights and your cooler.
  22. This feels like an epic BCGB ride is in order, just like the old days. A mix of some of the new stuff he has never seen and some of the old stuff that he misses. Pack a sandwich.
