  1. I should say, I've been using an old Cell with no service for both Strava and TrailForks offline. It works great, I make sure to boot it up at home on Wi-Fi and load any maps I need. This weekend I did an event at Flat Rock and used a Mobile Hotspot from my current cell that has service, just long enough for it to figure out the apps and then shut it off for the whole event. It records just fine, but I don't get live segments 🤷‍♂️
  2. Unfortunately No. The phone will act independently and show you where YOU are on a predownloaded map but it is only a GPS RECEIVER. It's only ability to SEND data is via Cell, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Theoretically if you were close enough to see each other over peer-to-peer Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, you will probably be within earshot.
  3. Two of my favorites from the area I learned to MTB at: Ryan's Eternal Flow: basically a half pipe in the woods with A Lines and B Lines everywhere. Great place to progress in skill. https://www.trailforks.com/video/42664/ Boot Camp: 10 min trail, climb a little then lots of gradual downhill flow. There are glimpses of this at Walnut, Peddlers and Hogjaw, glimpses. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTBQkQhTkBU
  4. Seems silly but tires. Probably overthinking it but my on my "XC" bike I'll ride any number of miles paved, gravel, trail but on my "Trail Bike" I keep it mostly trail. Partially, efficiency and partially the difference in $$ on tires I've spent. Other than that, time. If it takes 20min one way to the trail, that's 40min less time on the trails I get to ride.

  6. It was very still luckily but off trail the ash was up to several inches deep. A decent breeze could make that pretty unpleasant.
  7. I rode SN this morning, most of it is unchanged. Some of it was very surreal but the real loss was those apartments, yikes.
  8. My Dad and Father-in-law had near identical experiences, they resisted it for probably 10-15 years before giving in and becoming a believer. I myself, should probably go in as-well and get a sleep study.
  9. I did a Corning Clinic with Todd Eric of Endura Race, it was awesome I learned a ton.
  10. No... I did hike it From Cedar Breaks Park to Cedar Hollow; so I am familiar with the south side technical bits , it's one of the reasons I wanted to try it on a bike. 😅 I was hoping to go from Cedar Breaks Park to Tejas, Tejas to Cedar Brakes, clockwise around the Lake. Optional would be to cut it in half depending on how the techy part goes. Cedar Brakes to Cedar Hollow, then Cedar Hollow to Tejas. I'm already planning on being dropped off/ picked up so that's not a problem. The big thing I'm figuring out is packing strategy. The gear isn't new to me but I'm used to putting 100% of it on my back. Long term I'd like to find single track bikepacking but that may be wishful thinking in this state.
  11. So, after watching a YT video, I got an itch to try backpacking. I already have a bike, backpacking gear, dry bags how hard can it be? Wow, sooo many choices for setups/gear. I guess when you have more than just your back to store it it kind of broadens the options. I've already given into buying a rear frame rack but I'm debating/circling how to proceed. I'm hoping to start with a shake down ride this fall with a Lake Georgetown overnighter (10-15 miles/day) just to keep it simple and local. Ideally I'd like to spend <$300 to get the bags/gear I need to do this. If all goes well, I'll consider investing more for longer routes. What are y'alls recommended setups?
  12. I can't find it now but there is video of people chasing fire through their lawns with a garden hose. HOA watering requirements probably saved most of those houses from burning too. My Neighborhood is a mixed bag of lush green or dead and toasty.

  15. Saw it from Mopac on my way home from work. Anyone have more info? https://www.kxan.com/news/local/cedar-park/brush-fire-near-cedar-park-apartment-complex-forces-some-to-evacuate/
  16. I think he's just offering the opportunity if you wanted a different color.
  17. I have a 27.5x2.8" Maxxis DHF up for grabs. Probably ~<200 miles. Of use, no plugs/patches that I'm aware of. I just didn't know what to do with all of that traction. 🤪
  18. Enjoy! It's been a great trip with the family. It was our first time, if you need any suggestions let me know!
  19. Joining the "90° is the new 75° in Colorado" club. Rental bikes from the Garden of The Gods.
  20. I'd love to try them, should be the right size for me. I've been meaning to try and make the jump from tennis shoes to real MTB shoes.
  21. Kids Bikes with a 1X have a similar setup. I ended up finding these but because it was a kids grip I still had to cut it down. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M7TUMVJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
