  1. I ran 27.5 2.4s on my remedy. From there went to 27.5 2.8s on my genius. This is when I figured out 2.8s on a plush full squish bike are just too much. I have reduced to 2.6s and it is excellent. Doubt I’ll go down any more. Fast, tracks well, even with a pretty heavy dhf on the front it’s just easier to maneuver and corner than the smaller knob 2.8 rekon. I imagine I will continue to ride 2.6s as long as I’m on a 27.5. To note, I do still run 2.8s on my hardtail and don’t see that changing. I ride that bike differently than my big bike.
  2. Yep. I did it all yesterday too. Great condition. Still prefer to ride my hardtail at WC every time. Had a number of PRs yesterday so happy with that.
  3. I came from a remedy, and last year looked at the 9.8. Ultimately ended up on a scott genius. 65.5 degree HA, 27.5 2.8s (I’m riding 2.6s now), and Fox 150/150 suspension with gx drive train. Demo one if you’re in the market for those specs.
  4. Token geologist here. All regions will vary, but yes locally here in Austin we (for the most part) don’t suffer from severe erosion. Where you do see it will be the lower lying areas which is pratically just at the surface level (shoal creek). We are lucky we have a solid foundation that is porus enough to drain and filter water but still has enough backbone to hold its own for many lifetimes. That’s the mythical of limestone. Love that shit. Sandstone, siltstone and mudstone among other fine grain sedimentary stones don’t provide that guarantee. Go ride Houston’s memorial park. Nothing but sandstone and super fine grain surface silt/sand. Eroded to shit. We are fortunate to have such a great foundation here. ETA: this may be a troll after I read it again with my first bourbon of the night. That said, I still feel I provided a decent rock nerd moment for the website. Good day.
  5. I’m a geologist and I can really nerd this shit up but I’ll keep it rather simple. This area is pratically 100% limestone, which is the most legitimate natural filter system the world has ever known. Water drains through this shit like it’s nobodys business. Yes, there’s some surface soil around, especially in the lower lying areas, but just a foot or two (at most) below that is....you guessed it, Limestone! At the end of the day this area has gotten so much water that even the highly permeable and extremely porus limestone that fills our lives with joy, trails with dry conditions, and bodies with clean water are overwhelmed. Lump that in with an obscene amount of cloudy days blocking the sun from drying things out, and just slowing the whole process down, this is where we end up.
  6. I run Rekon/Rekon 27.5x2.8 on my hardtail. Plan to go Rekon/Ikon 2.8 next go round just to lighten up the back a bit more. On the big bike I reduced from Rekon/Rekon 2.8 to DHF/Rekon 2.6. Happy with the decision so far. 2.6 DHF and 2.8 Rekon were about 80 grams difference, which is negligible to me Overall I can definitely say the Rekon is an excellent tire for Texas riding. Fast, grippy and tough. Ikon is a great drive tire for here, but wouldn’t trust it up front. DHF is what it is, a tank that you can trust.
  7. Just got back from cruising around the hike and bike trails around brushy. The entire park is a wreck and I saw over a dozen people riding peddlers pass. Pissed. I walked the new section and it looks solid. Needs some tread to break it in when it dries out.
  8. Ouch. $50 is going to be a tough sell for me to ride a lift up for 4-5 trails. I was hoping it would be $30 +/- 5. I’d never pay that alone, but if friends come in from out of state to ride maybe it would be worth it.
  9. I definitely recommend a ride out there. I love pace bend and get out there every couple of months, but this is a nice change from pace bend. Really clutch that they accept credit cards for the $5 entrance to Theres a few technical spots, 4-5, but a lot of fast and flowy stuff. Just a nice place to ride for a couple hours in my opinion.
  10. Just wrapped up 2 hours at muleshoe. In good condition. Not the most technical of trails, but a lot of fast flowy stuff. Great spot to get back into the groove after being off the bikes for a month.
  11. Last time I tried to go out there was late October and they had shut the park down due to post flooding issues. Any new info? Thanks
  12. I just went down from 27.5 x 2.8 Rekon/Rekon to 2.6 DHF/Rekon. Looking forward to hitting the trails with these next weekend. It definitely feels a lot lighter in the rear and more nimble all around.
  13. I have a pair of columbia brownsmead pants that I wear to ride in cold weather. Loose fitting where they need to be but not baggy. That, insulated socks and a jacket and I can ride sub 40 pretty easily.
  14. I’m about to pull a couple of Rekon 2.8’s off of the genius with plenty of life left on them. Willing to part with them for a bottle of bulleit.
  15. I rode them on my remedy and found that if I was in that 15-20 degree off center range in a corner I completely lost the front end. But if I railed the corner it was great. I’m currently swapping to rekon front ikon back on the hardtail, and dhf front rekon back on the genius.
  16. I’m actually considering just building a large 6 by 8 foot plank out of 2x10’s and laying it across. I think that’ll keep water moving underneath it, and not disrupt the feature of the trail too much.
  17. I’m a big fan of the Rekon. Maxxis explained it as the offspring of a minion and the ikon. It is a do it all tire. Light, fast rolling and all the grip you want. Rekon front ikon back would work great too.
  18. Stopped by the Anderson Lane store today and they’ve got some pretty good deals right now. Got some gloves for $18 and almost pulled the trigger on a new pair of five ten freeriders for $70. Camelbacks and the helmets were also priced really well. Unfortunately don’t need either.
  19. IMO there’s nothing in Texas that calls for a 29er 160 fork. The smuggler is made for this type of terrain.
  20. Hell yea. Wieners for life. If you decide to race the Texas state enduro at RPR in a couple of weeks, you’re welcome to join my team named Team Wiener Dog when registering.
  21. Not much space, but the dogs and I love out garage.
  22. This count? This is Henry. He loves to shred but hates big drops.
  23. Damn good price on a damn good bike. I’d tell you to pull that trigger if you like it.
