This is my current setup. I used it for the second time Friday night and had a blast. It is a Blackburn Dayblazer 800. I keep a battery pack mounted on the bars next to it to keep it going.

I guess I've become a chicken shit...

I'm perfectly happy not crashing. Last time I went off the bike I rolled down an embankment and got covered with poison ivy. I'm not doing that again. -
May See More Walmart Schwinns On Trails...
Leafkiller replied to RidingAgain's topic in Mountain Biking Discussion
I have to admit my first bike I bought was a Wal-Mart bike. I didn't want to spend all that much in case I didn't enjoy biking again. I hit a few trails at Cameron Park or Mineral Wells. I know my experience level was near zero so I stayed away from anything difficult at first. I did work my way up to a few green trails like Act of Faith. Once I got hooked I went and bought my first Liv bike. I immediately noticed a big difference in performance and riding. Trails were a lot easier and I had more confidence that the bike wouldn't fall apart on me doing downhill. As long as people know their limits and the bikes limits, which I know will probably hardly happen, I don't have an issue with people riding them to start out. -
I will mostly yield to everyone if I can. I'm very much an amateur and am never in a hurry. I'll try to say hello or morning or something. Mainly I try to ride when no one else is out or go places no one else does.

Nice, I like that. I need a good reminder at times.

Just put NKDA down for no allergies. It's better for medical personnel to know you have none as opposed to it being unknown. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

That does sound fun. Too bad my passport needs to be updated and I would need a pit crew. And then I would need...

If you haven't been to Cameron Park lately....
Leafkiller replied to AustinBike's topic in Mountain Biking Discussion
Weekdays are better and later in the mornings are even better. It just depends on where you start. The river trail is sometimes crowded with runners, joggers, and other cyclists. We've been getting rain here and there lately so while most of the trails dry quickly leaves and algae covered rocks are slippery. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk -

Love Cameron Park but I may be a little biased since I live fifteen minutes away from it. It has some very good trails. My favorite is Act of Faith. There are some difficult ones like California 56. I don't know how anyone can ride that one. I had issues just hiking it. -
Looks nice. Definitely let us know. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

For me it's a road bike that can handle the roads around Central Texas. I got to where I was enjoying the number of miles I could put in versus the difficultly of the routes. So I got a gravel bike and have been enjoying it a lot.

Definitely will vote yes to this and another one for my zoo to expand. -
Seen on the hike & bike trail

There's one of the road leading into Cameron Park in Waco. Granted it's for vehicles but it picks up my speed going down the sidewalk. I get a good laugh when I see it. -
Describing a trail as "technical" or something else?
Leafkiller replied to The Tip's topic in Mountain Biking Discussion
There is a section of the trails at Mineral Wells State Park that is like this. The rocks are bowling ball size and cover the entire trail. Luckily it's only a short distance long. I've always called it a rock garden. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk -
Now there's something I would love to sign up for. I wonder if we could get a Central Texas college to do this.

Too bad that is my weekend to work. That would be fun. -
Any roadies with lots of experience riding south of Austin?
Leafkiller replied to Anita Handle's topic in Austin Roadies
Not certain about the ones already mentioned but I would love to try this one out some time. https://www.adventurecycling.org/routes-and-maps/adventure-cycling-route-network/texas-hill-country-loop/ -
Being a paramedic myself I strongly believe that no one is above the law or should be given special treatment. If the driver of the car was in the wrong he should be cited for it. End of story. Hopefully this will lead to fixing some of the problems they are having up there.

If we had any it was a sprinkle. The river trail is still underwater and most of the upper ones should be fine but there will still be some muddy spots and slick rocks. If you are on Facebook look for Cameron Park trail updates page. The guy there knows the trails very well and posts updates frequently. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Waco: Ranch at Cameron Park mtn bike park
Leafkiller replied to June Bug's topic in Mountain Biking Discussion
If you have ridden Cameron park the last few years chances are you have been to the Ranch. There isn't any markers saying you left Cameron park and entered the Ranch. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk -

It was a good article. I've rode some of those trails before and really enjoyed them. They have done a great job up there. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk -
The trails page yesterday they looked fine. Some mud puddles on the river trail and some of the rocks are a little slippery but they said it looked good there. If you are planning tomorrow the whole area will be a nightmare. The Magnolia Marathon is tomorrow. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
