The clearing/mulching has definitely gotten quite significant. We still haven't lost much trail all told so far but between the burned parts, the bulldozing for the path and now the clearing around Church/Hog Jaw you don't ride long before you cross yet another impacted area. Still fun but a bit depressing and certainly not much of an 'in the woods' high left.

The real mystery is why I always choose to explore some half promising looking possible trail when I am on a tight schedule. Like bum trails that just lead to a campsite. This was a rocky jeep road I scoped out a few years ago that led to a very tiny bit of trail. The jeep road is getting a lot more traffic, apparently from power line crews and people looking for places to dump stuff. One of those where by the time you drop way down some rocky chunk and find something that looks like a trail and bushwhack a bit you are pretty much mentally committed to not backtracking. I did come out where I thought I would but 100% not worth it. Mystery solved. 👎

I was checking out some mystery trail and ended up doing quite a bit of bushwacking last night. Looks like the dish soap will be in the shower for the time being. 😐

Mission Trail San Antonio. I had a couple surprisingly fun rides down there this week. 

I think the extent of the insanity finally hit me today when I saw Flat Rock has tent camping for the eclipse for $400 for 2 nights. $500 for dry RV camping.

Good news. A week or two ago I noticed a pretty big camp in this vicinity though and another somewhere else that surprised me (but I can't pinpoint at the moment)

Looks like the race course only includes a 4.5 mile loop. I do want to make it out there and check out all the trails at some point.

For the 2024 race, you will ride a 4.5 mile UCI style short track course. This course has some great spectator spots that allow you to see multiple parts of the course while staying in one place. Cat 1 men 15-18, 50+, and all Cat 1 women: 4 laps (18 miles)

Thanks for the info, this place has been on my radar for years. What were the fees? I have seen $20 and $40 for an annual membership but not a day pass. We did stop in Abilene the last time we went to Palo Duro on the way home. Good brewery 'downtown' called Grain Theory to sweeten the pot.

I was out there today, perfect conditions. I definitely need to adjust my lap mindset. So used to being just about done when you got back to the end of Fat Chuck's/start of Karaway area. Used to be only a couple short punchy climbs sprinkled into a mostly bombing descent back to the start area back in the day, now you still have a pretty tough little ride still ahead of you. Fun stuff, but definitely more matches required than before for sure.

Wait, it is even worse than we thought. I am 95% sure it only has live coverage, no replays or on demand. Could you even record a third party app like this these days? 😡

Yep. Sorry for the delayed response. In Fredericksburg I have only tried Fredericksburg Brewing on Main and Altstadt (both decent with good food). I was shocked at the number of new breweries that popped up near F'burg. I am semi-used to all the wineries, but yeah they have multiplied as have the distilleries. We also stop frequently at Pecan Street in Johnson City, but I saw they have a second one there too. We usually stay in Kerrville and like Pint and Plow (decent beer/good food/nice place with patio, live music, etc). I have also tried Brewers Basement (which has really good beer but only food trucks). I noticed there are at least 2 more in Kerrvile now too. Of course the whole Dripping Springs/Fitzhugh stretch has another dozen at least. Suds Monkey is a good stop for PAs and IPAs and you can order a pretty good pizza online on the way if you are tight on time. I wish that area wasn't so painful to get to from NW Austin. So many options.

TMBRA Marathon race Dec 2nd

Extended hours for course pre ride if you have been wanting to check it out. I enjoy the trail system, fast and flowy but real hill country feel.

Pre-Ride Information: The course will be open the following days for pre-ride:

November 25 9a-4p  

November 26 9a-4p

December 1 9a-6p

Makes for a good overnight combo with the Kerrville trails and brewery options. Just saying.

Yeah, I'm pissed too. It has been a good run. GCN+ was a great value. Even if Discovery picks up some or all of the racing the cost will be much higher. 🤬

It has been sunny and 70 degrees in Ruidoso the last couple days. Temps about to plummet though.

I did a loop on the 19th. The north side was totally clear but there were 5-6 on the south side. I marked the first two but then gave up, the last one was getting pretty close to where it drops down to the flat run to Tejas. So yeah, it covers a big stretch unfortunately. I should have kept marking them.

I heard it is blocked off from Katy Ln. Anyone had eyes on it in the last 24 hours? It would suck if it was blocked for the next 6-9 months or so...

That is a great idea and I used to keep a brand new one in the glove box and even tried to chase someone down once but by the time I turned around and tried to find them I couldn't. Need to put one or 2 back in the truck. Thanks for the reminder.
