Two people that run on the perimeter of our circle have gotten the rona this week. They were both double vaccinated

Last week they were reporting that 99.7% of new cases were unvaccinated people. To know 2 different fully vaxxed people who got it in the same week is crazy.

  2. I play on a coed beer league softball team. Currently 4 players (2 couples) on our roster have covid. None of them vaccinated. I don't think they got it from playing on the team together due to the way the timing of each one's symptoms, their resulting quarantine, and the game schedule has played out. (Not that this really matters. Just an interesting sidenote.)

At this stage if you are not vaccinated, it's pretty much a choice not to due to your political leanings and which news channel you watch. I feel bad that my friends are sick, but this was preventable. Now we are going to have to forfeit all our games the next couple weeks if we can't find some replacements.

Yes, I realize that beer league softball games are very trivial when so many have been hospitalized and killed. It just sucks. We all have fun playing softball. The choices of a few are now affecting everyone on the team.

It feels like a metaphor for America right now. Those screaming "let's get back to normal" a year ago are now the ones who are not getting vaccinated and preventing everyone else from getting back to normal.

  3. Cross post: what if a non-vaccinated person was approaching, coughing and I could immediately tell that their sense of smell and taste was altered. I yell “I fell threatened, don’t come any closer!” The sick individual keeps approaching, so I pull out my concealed handgun and drop the MFer. I blow the smoke out of the barrel and smile into the camera. With a wink I say “social distance, scum bag”. [roll credits]

Putting gears on my SS so it will be rigid geared bike. I'd prefer to leave it SS, but not knowing the true lay of the land I am probably better off with gears.

There's not much pedaling at Windsor. The lack of suspension is really the problem (assuming you have good brakes). Not that it's not possible, but it would be much more enjoyable on a trail bike. Why not figure out how to pull the pup trailer with your full suspension bike?

    Cool.

Looks like Dale Ball TH is ~5 miles from the hotel, so I could do a ~20 mile day with half on trails and half on pavement. I will do the North.

La Tierra was on my list, definitely not a tabletop person and with no suspension that would be even more of a challenge, but it is worth the ride out there to see what is going on (4 miles from hotel).

Galisteo might be harder to pull off because that is 14 miles from the hotel and we are on a family vacation so I should be spending more time being attentive and carting around a dog than off on my own.

Wife is going to shuttle me to the top of Winsor on one day, I may do a second day there and see how it is with a ride up from the hotel and back. I'll gauge that escapade after the shuttle run is complete.

Are you going to shuttle Windsor on a rigid SS?

  6. Vigilante justice at its finest. Driver intentionally hits Cyclist A with car. Cyclist B decides this warrants deadly force. My initial reaction was "good, fuck that guy". Not that the driver's actions are at all defensible, but does that give a bystander the greenlight to shoot the guy? Did the shooter get arrested/charged with anything? Would he have if the driver died? If so, how would that play out in court? Seeing that this is Texas, and the driver's name is "Jose Angel Hernandez", the shooter probably would become an NRA folk hero and gotten off any charges.

It's odd that I never really see them compare to an Oval which is really their closest competitor, technology wise. Lame that they don't even endorse for MTB riding.

It seems to me that their closest competitor is common sense. Who is this even made for? Not for offroad. Too heavy for any self respecting roadie. I don't see the recreational crowd going out of their way to make a modification like this. The testimonial on the page is by a recumbent cyclist. Maybe that's it. They ride goofy ass shit already. Also funny to me is the bike in the video at the top of the page. Full suspension Rockrider with aero bars and a kickstand. That's another slice of goofy.

Speaking of Double IPAs, first time trying the BoomBox and it was quite good. Chased it with an Axis. Life is good!

I've been digging the Boombox lately, and the Axis is a long time go-to. I just don't understand why they had to ruin that sampler pack with the Moon Walk. If they replaced that with some Lost Gold, I'd buy a bunch of those packs.

  9. What we rode of Glorieta is awesome. We didn't get to experience all of it, but what we did was super fun. We parked at the church, which didn't seem to be used anymore. There were other vehicles with bike racks and a kiosk with a map, so it definitely felt like we were in the right place. The trails were well built and maintained. There were lots of signs at first, but I think it's a work in progress because I didn't see any after a while and we missed a turn that is pretty critical.

We started up Cairn Me Up which is a 5 mile/ 1000ft. climb and descended Jagged Ax, which was one of the my favorite trails we rode all week (including Windsor, the AF park, SBT, and singletrack in AF). Jagged Ax is rocky, technical, and challenging, but nothing that was too big or didn't have a B line. At the bottom, there is a very cool flow trail. Cairn Me Up would have been a less challenging, but super fun decent as well if you weren't up for Jagged Ax.

We intended to do another loop off the back with another 1000 ft climb and decent (Snack Pack and Holy Mole). I think you have to take the fireroad that others have mentioned there and back to get to it. Unfortunately, we didn't get there. We missed the turn into Jagged Ax and the trail got steeper. We climbed/hiked an accidental 500 ft, which zapped the extra time and energy we had for the other loop. Looking at MTB Project, there are more options over on that side too.

One of my best friends now lives in Santa Fe, so I'm sure I'll be back, and Glorieta will be on the top of my list to ride again and see what was missed.

  10. Here a live photo that I converted to a gif. Not really testing anything. It just seems to convey the same feelings as this problem.

  11. My theory is that it has to do with the "live photo" or whatever its called. One small edit makes it a static image. Using the app or an external file host or even dragging to the desktop changes the file type. I'd be interested if anyone has this problem with a non-Apple device.

  12. Are you using a browser on your phone to access the forum? Try using the Tapatalk app. If you upload the image from your phone through the app, it works. I get the -200 error when I try to upload from my photo album on the computer.

that's a new one to me. I've literally never heard the word "hacker" used in that context. that's either archaic or a neoquialism so fresh that it's not crossed my path yet. one can be a hack (noun) at hacking (verb) and apparently, a hacker (adjective) of a hacker (noun).

Very common in golf vernacular. Makes sense in that context because if you are a bad golfer, you are taking ax-like hacks at the ground.

Wait, Mo's not sold on tubeless?

Probably more sold on getting sponsors, even if it is a ridiculously stupid product.

I have an idea. How about a seatpost that is not a dropper, but if you pull out your phone and connect the app, it will tell your weight? Also, it breaks easily.
