  1. The first trail thread brought back memories. These old DH tracks were milder than today’s XC world cups!
  2. You just reminded me, I rode that univega with toe clips! I definitely had more skills and more confidence back then.
  3. Wow! It seems I was following you with a couple of years delay! I moved to Dallas in 96 after graduating. Largely gave it up except for a few rides of Rowlett Creek Preserve and moved back here in 2003.
  4. In addition to the new gear attracting rain, I have another one: charge your lights for a night ride, watch the thunderstorm head in within minutes…
  5. BCGB Fall of 1991 on my Univega Alpina (full rigid!) because we could ride it from campus. I don't remember how I got started MTB to be honest. I somehow connected with a couple of ME students that rode (I'm EE and they didn't live in my dorm). I don't remember loving BCGB particularly but I think we mainly rode the main trail only. I liked the stuff along 360 better back then. I love the BCGB now but it seems like erosion (both trail and my skills) have combined to make it a lot more challenging for me.
  6. I had to look it up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aestivation
  7. I couldn't handle it. I got the kind that's just on the nose and was OK for a while, but then I had some unrelated anxiety issues which caused me a couple of panic attacks (also unrelated to the CPAP) and I could never put it back on. I am a light sleeper, so moving with something attached to my face would cause me to wake up multiple times a night. I lost some weight and became focused on sleeping on my side and I think that resolved my problem. Also look into a night guard which pulls your lower jaw forward. For some people, that makes all the difference. You can see if this would make a difference by laying face up, let your jaw slacken all the way back, breathe in deeply, then compare to it with the jaw pulled forward to see if it's different.
  8. We got 0.04" according to LCRA hydromet.
  9. The R&I was a sufferfest for me. I did much worse in these 80's and high humidity than I did a couple of weeks ago starting at 104°F. The little bit of rain wasn't enough to accumulate in the soil, but amazingly you could feel the extra traction on that moon dust from just a bit of extra moisture!
  10. The last week+ we've had red flag conditions. Humidity is in the 20's in the late afternoon. I saw 22% a couple of days ago. As soon as the sun dips enough or in the shade, it feels very comfortable out.
  11. Pedro's tire levers are the perfect piston spreading tool. They also work in some cases as spacer blocks. If you have too much fluid, you could let some out from the caliper itself.
  12. Did Huckleberry have that Tallboy with the custom carbon fork crown?
  13. It's taking what's exposed to the elements and is finicky and easily damaged and puts it inside a container. My understanding is that e-bikes are also harder on a regular drivetrain. If I were to get a commuter e-bike, I would get one with the internal Shimano 7-speed hub and a drive belt. Both have been proven to be reliable for people that ride long distances. I would expect (don't know that it is, but I expect it) similar reliability from this integrated transmission.
  14. You may just be getting more used to it. I walked yesterday past noon and it was hot but OK in the shade. The breeze was good depending on direction...sometimes it felt like a blast furnace sometimes it felt cooler. I should have gone outside before replying. I didn't want to believe it. It feels downright nice out there!
  15. Fire is now 100% contained. Does anyone know where/how it started? What I've read said it jumped 1431 them jumped over the houses, but the winds recently are southerly winds, so that doesn't make sense to me.
  16. How did it jump over those houses without setting any of them on fire?! Sad for the people that lost their apartment and things, glad it wasn't worse.
  17. puntos = dots, he's translating puntos to points. I had guessed he meant fisheyes. "what's your point?" = "cual es to punto?" punto/a also means point as in the point of a spear. "mi bici tiene puntos" = "my bike has dots"
  18. I guess they kept that same Eurosport commentator for the DH. He is soul sucking and his cadence is annoying. At least on the XC side it’s better and they kept Bart Frentjens on GCN. I expect it will be the same for the euro feed on flo sports.
  19. That's pretty awesome! Interestingly I don't own the original album and it's not my favorite, but I just recently streamed it like last week!
  20. This made me think of @sherpaxc and @CBaron riding I think the EE on a tandem?
  21. Father son project. 1990 Smurf Miata restoration: clutch, clutch hydraulics, shocks, shock mounts, rear main seal (as you should if you do the clutch), cam angle sensor I-ring (super common top end source for oil leaks), shifter bushings, paint touch up, seat upholstery change. Yes in this heat with no AC in the garage. We took this past weekend off.
