  1. Tuesday June 6. 5-8pm https://www.meetup.com/mountainbikes-130/events/294001420/
  2. It’s pretty similar to the Austin area, at least in terms of tire choice.
  3. Do you work for Public Works? Can I get your email? TrailCoordinator at AustinRidgeRiders.com
  4. Yes, that’s right. The City bought it. The Pecan Springs / Springdale Neighborhood Association and others pushed hard for it to be designated as a Greenbelt. That effort resulted in this Community Master Plan. https://www.austintexas.gov/sites/default/files/files/Parks/Planning_and_Development/190108-Little_Walnut_Creek_Greenbelt_MP_FINAL_Small.pdf We have been advocating with PARD and Austin Parks Foundation to fund a proper Concept Plan / Feasibility Study by IMBA Trail Solutions; it seemed promising at first, but got bogged down a bit—while PARD agrees in principle, they say they’re also concerned it could be outside the scope of the Master Plan. The plan mentions the poor condition of the existing trails and rated trails as a high community interest—surely that should be enough of a hook to hang a hat on! They also said they need to see more community engagement; so we hosted a community ride last year. And I attended and spoke at a Pecan Springs Springdale Neighborhood Association meeting earlier this year. The other tactic, if PARD and APF don’t do full trail plan, is to break off smaller pieces and use our Community Activated Park Project (CAPP) approval to use grant funds for local trail contractors and volunteers (combined) to fix/re-route/etc certain sections of the trails, one at a time.
  5. I’m not the expert on quantifying visibility, but we did a new website; new branding; new jerseys; have a new Marketing person who has been doing great photography and posting to FB and Instagram quite a bit, in addition to re-starting the email newsletter. https://www.facebook.com/AustinRidgeRiders https://instagram.com/austinridgeriders?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= We have a member appreciation ride next Saturday at Rocky Hill Ranch. Cranksgiving in January was huge, with a ton of prizes. We did a big film screening at Oskar Blues. Also, Austin Ridge Riders joined Austin Outside, an umbrella group of organizations (see the other members we with in this list https://www.austinoutside.org/members ). I’ve attended more than 15 meetings this year, the goal being to try see how we can network in local politics/gov’t to get things done. I’ve also been networking with landscape architecture firms who work in parks, such as RVI, Asakura Robinson, Second Spatial. We’ve had calls with STORM and GHORBA to compare notes on advocacy. I have one planned with DORBA. So, that’s a slice of what’s been going on!

  7. The message Austin Ridge Riders will be promoting is that “It’s not about the concrete—it’s about connecting neighborhoods to places people want to ride, like MTB Trails, BMX Parks, Bicycle Playgrounds, Skills Parks, etc.” It’ll be great to show the elected officials and administrators a good crowd of MTB riders!

After a few canceled events, we're super excited to have this back on the calendar at Reimers Ranch on Nov 26. This is a non- competitive, social event where you can learn basic trail maintenance and win some sweet swag by doing as many laps as you can. Kids under 15 are free, and everyone who is 16+ is 25 dollars each. There is a 5 dollar per person land use fee charged by the Ranch, please bring that in cash as they don't accept plastic. Lunch is on us! Here's how to register... 15. A little discussion and video of this jump over on Facebook Austin Mountain Biking. If there are any plans (especially in the fall when we get some rain) to work on these, I'd be down to come out. The landing would benefit from being taller and moved (or just added to) like 4 feet further away from the ladder launch. https://www.facebook.com/groups/austinmountainbiking/posts/2021066348102195/
  16. Post-Rain Trail Work at Walnut Creek Metro Park, Tuesday June 28. 5:15pm. Meeting at main pool lot and going to #405 location (south of main creek crossing). Wear pants (poison ivy possible) and bring your own gloves (although we'll have some to share); we are providing tools. The Austin Ridge Riders is YOUR local not-for-profit Mountain Bike Club. ARR builds and maintains the trails we all enjoy. The vision for Walnut trail work is a combination of routine maintenance stuff (lopping face slappers, fixing erosion/drainage issues, etc.) as well as ADDING FLOW & FUN (berms, rollers, log features) while continuing to recognize the trails' multi-use status (hikers, runners, dogs, etc.). If you are not yet a member of ARR, PLEASE CONSIDER SIGNING UP TODAY on http://www.austinridgeriders.com Also, please click here to fill out an online waiver: https://fs27.formsite.com/eINPMl/0xpgcz4ejt/index.html
  17. I got heat stroke in Bentonville’s “Back 40” in June last year. The humidity was worse than here.
