  1. I used the Osprey Seral 4 hydration hip pack for the first time last night. so far, it's great! my only complaint is that the hose attaches to the pack when not in use by a magnet, and the magnet is difficult to attach while riding (not a design flaw, just expected) not that strong. so if you try to drink while riding a rocky trail, you have to get really good at finding that magnet again, or just let it dangle and bounce of your thighs. (insert junior high schooler joke here.)
I will try this solution: retractable badge holder lanyard. I have one of these to clip at my waist and wrap the little strap around the hose. when I am done drinking, I can just let go and it will snap back in pace without any fuss. I've used this same method (borrowed it from some bikepacking article, here's an example) when using a hydration bladder in a frame bag to good effect.

Not exactly ground-breaking stuff here, but I thought this solution might help some of you who what drink hoses just flopping around and want them to stop.
Do you have one of these? I bought a bunch years ago and they go on the bladder tube
Works much better than the magnet on the bite valve 3644017b977cfab7ba9b5e7534757aa7.jpg

  2. I got my new Evoc on Saturday and rode with it yesterday

I wanted it mainly for comfort and storage.

It comes with a 1.5 L bladder,, 1st thing I did was Swap over my bladder from the Dakine HotLaps witha 2L bladder , it fit perfect. This does come with the 1.5 L bladder and pockets for 2 water bottles. So thats cool

The storage was sweet for my use. Tool and C02 cartridge couple snacks and little wallet. I have a huge ass phone so that fit very nicely in the pocket right next to the bladder so it is protected.

    So far so good

  3. I had to replace my rear brake caliper, it was a Shimano XT 8020 and couldn’t find a deal on one since they are discontinued. Ended up picking up a Deore 6120 caliper. The lower end Shimano brakes take a cotter pin which I hate. I prefer the screw in pin found on the higher tier brakes. I was able to tap in threads to the caliper to fit the screw in pin and also Saint/Zee finned pads fit in these brakes! They feel almost exactly like the XT’s!

Is there an advantage of using those pads?

Anyone have a line on a good hip pack to carry 1 bottle along with some other necessities like a tube, multi-tool, phone and keys? Mostly thinking of Walnut Creek and singlespeed, for longer greenbelt rides I'd be using a full pack.

I have my eyes on this one.     https://www.evocsports.com/HIP-PACK-PRO-3-HIP-PACK-HYDRATION-BLADDER/102504120

I have not pulled the trigger only because I have never seen one in person. You can carry water bottles along with the bladder.

Or sans bladder and just bottles. So that is nice but on paper they claim that the comfort has been improved as the weight is better dispersed.

I currently use the Dakine 5L and really like it except when I fill the bladder up about 1/2 , then it is uncomfy on my fat belly as the buckle digs in.

A friend and I are passing through Bentonville next month and want to hit a trail. Unfortunately, to keep to a deadline, we on have a few hours. If you had 3 or so hours there, what would be the most fun trail?

Under a time deadline I would easily hit the various Slaughter Pen trails. North to South , South to North doesnt matter.

    But park at A St (  https://goo.gl/maps/ukF8hdnuoAaBoHB27  )

Its right on the top of the All American and has a bathroom right there. Head North down the All American and you can ride a ton of various trails easily in a couple hours

  6. Anyone know a local mtb guide at Bentonville that would give me a "best of" tour of the NW Arkansas riding?   Normally, I would love to explore and don't mind getting lost, but I am going Bentonville with my family and I would only have a limited time to ride.   Anyone knows somebody?

They have done a stellar job and really a guide isn't needed. Between the Oz Trails websites containing great maps and Trailforks you honestly cannot go wrong.
Between Back 40 and Little Sugar and then the stuff in town that is all marked and signed wonderfully I would just explore

  7. Is it me or have I noticed (thankfully) a traffic decrease out at BC lately? People finally giving up this new found hobby they discovered? Less hikers and walkers and for sure less riders

Going back 10+ years to when Lake Travis was SUPER low. There were sunglasses and bic lighters EVERYWHERE. Lakes work great for hiding things, till they don't. 🙂

Lived in South Fla for a bit , Always amazed me that when a canal was dredged up or drained , what was found under that nasty water.  People who disappeared yrs before suddenly were found

    Zoomers are just doomed

Right!  17 yr old is realizing this big time. Between the cost of school and houses. Yea , would not want to be in her shoes looking at the future. The worst fears I had at 17 were over girls.

Even rent , I work with about of people under the age of 30 and I feel for them just getting by in this area with a decent job.
