The weather doesn't look perfect, but it looks like it might work. So it's happening.
Fast Friends is going to give all participants a dollar off their first post ride beer. Hey, it's something.

Yes, locks don't stop dedicated bike thieves. They only prevent thefts by opportunity.

I think all the warnings and disaster proclamations ("Buy extra food! Stores will run out!!" etc) are going to be another Y2K bust
I do believe that traffic on 290 will be a nightmare though.

sigh. I really didn't want to address this but, to protect what little reputation I have, I am compelled to do so.
I am not sure why I am having to endure TAF's unrelenting wrath. It started with his suggestion for a cleanup of a particular spot in the SATN. I didn't immediately jump on it and make it happen. He has been very angry at me since. I'm not sure why he didn't organize this event himnself if it was so important to him.
But I'm amazed that he accuses me of "doing nothing for the community." The irony being that I would be willing to bet that there are less than five people in town that have given as many hours to trail building, maintenance, organizing clean ups, putting on community building events, and participating in other's events too, (ARR etc), as I have. For example, I've used Strava to track my walking miles at trail work for eight years now. I average over a hundred miles a year. That includes just walking to do hours long projects at single spots. It would be fun if Strava tracked all time hours at each activity too.
He wants The SATN Facebook page to be an open forum. Well, that is not why that page was created. It is only for information dissemintation. There are at least two other local mtbing Facebook pages that are designed for open discussions. So his ire about that perplexes me too.
I have nothing against the man. This all just seems so strange to me.

I was getting reverse snobbery about my almost bald rear tire. Astonished looks followed with a "man, you need a new tire" comments were frequent. I finally put a new one on when heading to Big Bend. So that's my philosophy.

I was shocked by this reelection result. Not only that he won, but by the margin.

99% of those camps are open drug and prostitution markets.
And don't forget bike chop shops!

It's such a pleasure to see the city cleaning up camps after so many years of doing nothing. Two big camps on the Big East Loop of the SATN have been cleared. One at the Bluff Springs entrance to Onion Creek Metro, and the other off of Brandt Rd.
Now if they can just get the police to nip in the bud any new activities. Policeman, "Nope. Sorry buddy, move it right now. And pick up all your trash!" Much easier to get that single camper gone before it turns into another environmental diaster area.

I think if you post your picture to the 311 app it automatically locates where the picture was taken.

We're staying at Buescher SP Wednesday and Thursday night this week. What are the chances of the RHR trails being ok to ride either day?
-
Install the Austin 311 app. Take a picture of every camp every time and send it in right then, The more reports the better.
The city IS removing camps, They just don't move as quickly as we would like of course.

Hopefully no conflicts.

It is soon to be official. The stakeholders and the city officials have met and okayed the name to now be "Maxwell Trails". It will take awhile to be changed on all the different platforms.

Did anyone ever try to educate him?

My first take is this is for clearing trail.
Exactly. That is of course what it is for. Several people have observed what you have. The amazing thing to me is that the author of that article, that is merely reposting a viral video, is posting it in A BIKE MAGAZINE! Obviously that guy never does trail work. I give him a semi-pass though because lots more people watch "The Walking Dead" than do trail work.

Fast Friends on the south side next to I-35. It's also close to the far-east segments of SATN, so it could become a hub for rides there.
Rumor has it there is now a trail connection from the brewery to the Boggy Down trail. Pretty cool

Admittedly, I don't go south of the river much and really only ride the GB when I do. I've ridden some of the SATN trails once recently and some of it long ago before people started calling it SATN.
As far as Trail Forks, I was looking at Google search results, and the only result that showed that name was Trail Forks. Also, I only use Trail Forks in places in which I'm unfamiliar with the trails.

It's hard to miss the reroute and it is so minor it doesn't affect the recording of the Strava route.
BTW, there are all sorts of sponsors for this. I don't know how much swag they are bringing but it's cool that Shimano, Giant, Santa Cruz, and Sram have all jumped on board. It's going to be fun

Dang, that's not good. Thanks for the heads up.
All social media and schedules were scoured for conflicts prior to this date being picked. Oh well, more coordination in the future hopefully.
I guess folks will have to decide if they want a single track mountain biking experience or an interesting road-dirt hybrid ride. Either way, winners all!

I think other folks beat you to it.
When did Mother Nature get so darn sensitive anyway? I still haven't found a really compelling reason why they are so bad. Even the individual National Parks themselves cannot agree on a policy.

We had about 70 folks start off. Good turnout for an iffy weather day. But the rain held off until the very last. Good event
