  1. Hopefully there will be a few ride leaders that some of us can actually keep up with 😁 Anyway it goes though, I could find my way around if I had to. Hoping to at least get up their Sun morning when the temps are supposed to be a bit cooler. From what I remember being there last year, the trails will probably be OK with some scattered rain, which appears to be in the forecast for this weekend.
  2. Yeah sure looks that way. Hopefully it was put out before compromising the integrity of the structure.
  3. WTF! Did it appear to be set intentionally?
  4. Both are in Bentonville. We hit several food trucks too while there and all were good.
  5. BTW - Huge thumbs up for both Wright's BBQ and Tusk & Trotter. Had the Prime Rib plate at Wright's and it was outstanding with Collard Greens and baked Sweet Potato. Had the Bison Burger and Spicy Fries at T&T - outstanding as well. Both had great local beers as well (cans only at Wrights - no tap).
  6. Haha - no not quite ready to commit to Maxxis. Should have gone with that heavier 2-ply Mazza though, at least for the rear. With the Rimpact in, it took a minute before I even realized I was flat. It was the flapping rubber sound that gave it away. We started that ride on the Ledges, and still had the Back 40 to go. So bailing back to the car wasn't an option. Besides, with those DT Swiss XMC carbon rims, I wouldn't want to risk riding on just the insert, even for a short distance. 😁
  7. Returned last night from first trip to B'ville - 4 straight days of riding. Biggest takeaway for me was the vibe itself, and how nature and humanity are blended so seamlessly together, whether riding the abundance of varied trails around town or hiking over to Crystal Bridges Museum from the Airbnb. The setting is simply idyllic. We spent the first and last of our 4 days just riding SP and other close-by trails. Definitely had some favorites but can't recall them all (Apple Turnover kicked my ass). Rode Coler South and North on our second day. While I can definitely see the appeal for those who like to launch themselves into the air, Coler really isn't my thing. I did enjoy Here's Johnny and Rock Solid though. Loved the Ledges and Back 40 on Day 3. Looking forward to getting up there again and checking out more of the surrounding areas, such as Devil's Den, Hobbs, and Buffalo River / Ponca Downhill areas.
  8. Riding the Ledges in Bentonville this past weekend, my buddy was able to use a couple of bacon strips to seal a puncture in the tread area of his rear tire. It spewed some more sealant when he aired it up, but eventually sealed up enough to finish the ride and ride again the next morning. I got a sidewall gash on my rear tire within minutes of his mishap and didn't even attempt plugging it. Taped it from the inside and then tubed it. No problems for the remainder of the weekend. Tire was brand-new; so going to just leave the tube in to get as much wear on the tire as I can. Also of note, I had to deal with the dreaded "what do I do with my tire insert now that I'm tubed" scenario! In my case, even the dense Rimpact Pro folded up nicely and was able to be fully stuffed into my large Osprey Syncro 20. I would just caution that if you're using tire inserts, make sure you have a large enough pack to contain it in the unlikely event of tubing the tire.
  9. C'mon man you know be better than that! 1300 is for the 2-ply enduro tire. The trail version that I run is only 950.
  10. Yep - Mazza. Second set and I love them!
  11. Its companion product, the Bead Bro, works wonderfully!
  12. Of course she doesn't mind getting smashed up all the time - Canada has universal health care. Getting smashed up all the time in the US literally costs you an arm and a leg!
  13. Went out for an evening ride yesterday thinking I would find wet trails since my house that is a mile from the YMCA got a good drenching in the morning. Instead, it appeared that no rain fell at all on Snail, Rim, Picnic, DD, or 1/4. I was pleasantly surprised and had a great ride. Solid breeze made up for the hot / humid temps. Something about the west end of 1/4 Notch though. Just like last year, I was relentlessly pursued by a hungry horsefly on that stretch of trail. Definitely motivation to ride faster, but those things are incredibly annoying.
  14. How low can you go? I'm trying to find the bottom of drinkable daily whiskey pours. I had settled into a nice rotation under $30, but now I'm testing the water under $20. This Old Grand Dad BIB ain't too shabby!
  15. It is both age and the condition of the heart that causes max heart rate to decline. I'm no doctor, but perhaps a better indicator of longevity, at least from a heart muscle perspective, is resting heart rate. I've known incredibly fit folks who died in their forties and incredibly unfit folks who've died in their nineties; so there are plenty of other things in play when it comes to predicting the end. True max heart rate though is in fact measured through exertion; so if you're not exerting yourself to the max, you don't even know what your max is.
  16. Digging the Evan Williams Single Barrel but Friday night special includes a blended boost of OF Signature 100.

  18. You can't argue with science! https://nypost.com/2022/04/12/study-finds-listening-to-ac-dc-makes-surgeons-faster-and-more-accurate/
  19. I'm a boomer and can't disagree. When I was a kid, we only got to go to Dairy Queen if we won the damn game. Nowadays, everybody goes, and they get parfaits and banana splits instead of an f'n cone. Geez!
  20. To the contrary, I would guess the retailers are telling people "don't worry - nobody will ever enforce the rules", which of course has proven to be true.
  21. I get all of the arguments for the various use cases that make good sense for eMTB, but show me one ad where the manufacturer is actually targeting the old and decrepit. No, instead they are appealing to the masses simply to increase profits - not to extend MTBing to those who otherwise couldn't enjoy it. They don't give two shits about those people. To me personally, eMTB is an insult to the sport itself, coming directly from the same bike builders who helped make the sport so enjoyable for those of us who like to keep pushing harder to advance our game (even at 63). Advancements in equipment over the years have lifted the limits in MTB just like they have in other sports. Deploying a motor to make a sport easier though has crossed a line IMO. What's next, an escalator to the top of Mt. Everest?
  22. Couple of guys on contraptions like this were buzzing through Picnic at Brushy Creek on Sunday while blaring their music for all within earshot. I couldn't keep up with them, at least until they hit a few roots, at which time I had to stop and wait for them to clear the trail. Certainly hope that is not what the future holds for local trail riding!
  23. I believe the new Shimano 12-spd tops out at 51t. Seems the big difference between them and SRAM is that the low-end cogs are more evenly spaced whereas SRAM takes that one huge jump to the big cog. I'm definitely having problems but more than likely due to my chain and cassette being overdue for replacement (still rocking what you installed for me nearly 2 years ago). Under stress or when taking big hits, the chain just drops down 2-3 cogs on its own. I might take you up on the offer to come try yours out, even if it's just up and down the street.
  24. Do you think going to the XTR shifter would make any difference? I've become quite spoiled with XX1, and if yours lasted that long, maybe I need to just keep mine for a while longer, possibly move it over to my backup bike.
