Chief
Minion DHF 2.5 front Aggressor 2.5 rear. Ran Shcwalbes for a long time no issues with flats or cut sidewalls but they just don't last that long.
TheX
Just got back from my first real ride with the DHF front, 2.5. My XC bike has an ardent on the front right now, and for normal XC riding it's fine. The DHF sticks to things that I honestly thought were impossible. TheX
Oh yeah, the DHF rolls over angled roots like they aren't there...the ardent throws the bike in that direction.

crazyt
i cant believe multiple people recommended ardents. They are one of the worst tires I have ever used. I would never run them in front, only in back so when they slip it is no big deal. It used to be that most people had the same experience. I run a nobby nic 2.3 in front and a 2.3 ikon in back. Best combo of rolling resistance/traction Run tires at 20 psi front/back (@175 pounds)

A lot of that is probably due to more suspension.

Best combo of rolling resistance/traction Run tires at 20 psi front/back (@175 pounds) Everyone has a different experience. That is why I pointed out early on that this is more about the bike, the rider and the trail conditions. I happen to like ardents, never had a real problem with them. They're affordable and they wear well for me. The other one that I ride a lot is the On-One Chunky Monkey. But, again, these are personal preferences. The only thing for sure out of this thread is that whatever the OP chooses, there is a 95% chance that he picked wrong because of the points I laid out early on. It's like saying your hungry, what should I have for dinner.
Tree Magnet
I really dislike Ardents as well. High Roller 2’s have been great to me for the past few years.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm still running 26x2.35" F/R Kenda Nevegals because they worked well where I used to live, they haven't worn out yet and I'm too cheap to buy new tires. For my riding ability, they still work well here. On my 27.5" bike I run a WTB Trail Boss (F) and Ikon (R). I've been real happy with that combo. I did borrow a front wheel/tire from shine rider for the PP time trial. I didn't even notice until later it was an Ardent that everybody loves/ hates. I had no issues with it for the "race". It got me a PR of 19min on race day. I remember the Mondraker demo day I rode a bike with a DHF. The dirt was as tacky as it could be without sticking to tires and it would ride SO SLOW through the softspots. Almost like dragging my brakes. jcarneytx
Had switched to Schwalbe Hans Dampf from E13 TRS+ (OEM on bike; way to squirrely for me. side knobs were ginormous.) The HD did not last very long. Tore a hole at Brushy. Switched to Maxxis Minion DHRII 3C Exo for rear (still have HD on front) and it works really well. Will probably try the DHF front next year sometime. F/R 22psi/25psi

throet
Just ordered a 27.5 x 2.6" Schwalbe MM for $46.03 US from Merlin Cycles ($52.61 with shipping). That's as good a deal on those as I've seen in a while.
June Bug
Why has no one mentioned Blue Grooves? Are they even still A Thing? Speaking of throwbacks, I was watching a true-crime show (murder porn) on Investigation Discovery channel where Velociraptor tire tracks (noted close to the murdered soon to be ex-wife's house!), were introduced at trial. The defendant's mountain bike had (cue scary music) Velociraptors. Also, currently: 29 x 2.35 Ikons in front and 2.3 Ikons in back. Teamsloan
Running on 26ers too. I like Ardents. But I also love Geax/Vittoria Goma's in the 2.4 (see Austinbike was right), Ikons, and the impossible to find now WTB Weirwolf LT 2.55's I've also run a Goma in the rear with a Maxxis ADvantage 2.4 in the front. Currently running Goma front Weirwolf LT in the back as I just cut the sidewalls in my rear tire Goma this past weekend. So, basically I'm too cheap to actually buy tires. I just run what I can find for free. Although, I did scour the inter webs for the WTB Weirwolf LT's. I LOVE those tires for long days on the greenbelt. I've learned to ride super small tightly spaced knobs and giant widely spaced knobs. You learn to adapt.
xl_cheese
Maxxis Tires with the EXO casing have proven to be the most durable for our terrain. As you can pretty much gather from the Data on this tread there are a lot of choices and opinions on what works. Everyone is different. We don't always have the luxury to demo different tires due to the high cost. I think I go against the grain in liking narrower 2.2 Maxxis Ikon tires and I sort of have the ability to demo lots of different tires.
