Re-purposing your kid's bike.....why not

Bought this small 27.5 bike from peddler last christmas for my kid. I think she rode it once, so she pretty much had zero interest in it. My options were to let it hang on the wall for another year and collect dust, or do something fun/different. Ended up building a pseudo pump bike that was supposed to be cheap/simple but ended up being far from that. After all the headaches it turned out pretty cool. I still suck at bigger jumps/gaps and hoping this will be a good bike to go practice on. Worst case I can always put it back on the wall🤣

Pike Rct3 reduced to 110mm

FSA orbit

WTB Frequency i23 team laced to DT350s w. 18t wolf SS cog

Onzo Skinwalls

Race Face 165mm crank w. 34t ring

MRP Mega G4

Spank 40mm stem

Spank 750x 60mm risers

ODI vans grips

blah blah blah.....

Only stock stuff I reused were the tektro brakes, rotors, and seat/post.

That's sick man.  Looks like a proper DJ bike.  I would assume you don't need the chain guide with the SS sliding dropouts.  The only thing that I'd be cautious about is breaking the frame when you case some jump.  DJ bikes have a tough life but that thing is a Kona and probably built like a tank so go for it!

Forgot to add...I just bought a new DJ fork for my DJ bike under the guise of letting one of my kids ride it.  It fits him and he wants to ride it but if happens to lose interest....I have a new fork for my DJ!  Win WIN!

Thanks

Bike was 135QR so i had to come up with a way to tension the chain without adding one of those derailleur-ish units. The MRP has a cog on the lower guide that serves as a tensioner. I had to loosen the BB and rotate the unit until the chain was the correct tension and then re-tighten the BB cup (no iscg tabs). A bit of a PITA but it works.

Now I get it.  That makes sense and seems like it would work great.

Bonus points for keeping it so your daughter can still ride it if she gets the itch.
