RidingAgain
I've got long legs (6'4" body height) and always thought longer crank length was the way to go, but I came across this video and am now rethinking the whole deal. RidingAgain
Seems like it's filtering down into new bike design... Notyal just posted a link to Specialized new e-bike Levo SL that is speced with a 170mm crank length on its xlrg frame size. mack_turtle
That guy's videos are pretty darn good. I've been a subscriber for a long time. Walt built a bike around super short cranks: https://forums.mtbr.com/26-27-5-29-plus-bikes/paradigm-drift-omg-i-built-myself-bike-1078271.html
RedRider3141
The first and only time I got to pick my crank length I went with 175mm becuase it seemed common spec on new bikes. I've found them to be too long for my bikes BB and Austin Terrain. I ended up swapping for the 170s on my HT and was stunned how much difference 5mm could make in pedal strikes. I do notice a slight difference in feeling of leverage vs spinning out but not in a bad way on either bike.
rockshins
I am also tall with long legs and always went with 175, even thought about some special cranks that came in longer lengths. New bike is super long (515mm reach), slack and has a low bottom bracket. Came with 170 mm cranks on the XL and I was worried since for some odd reason I thought 5mm made a big difference. Cannot feel any difference and definitely helps for the rocks around here.
