TheX
I bought my first CD-Rom drive there like 25 years ago. It's sad seeing it happen.
RedRider3141
So.... supposedly they are switching vendors/ vendor contracts and this is leading to them being empty. It's been going on for a few months though. I was in the one on MoPac (Is there another?) and asked an employee and he confirmed this. Whether that's the truth or not? TheX
I know someone that has been an employee there for 12 years. That story has been going around for over a year. Now they have very few employees, and even the guy at the door checking receipts is gone. My inside source told me that they were trying to get vendors to place inventory in the stores, and get paid for what sells, basically consignment deals. AntonioGG
Where will I go get my.... ? oh, never mind. They should put some lumber in there and turn it into a Phil's World/The Lumberyard kind of place.

texbiker
Looks like all they have to sell are the shelves and racks.
notyal
Someone should turn those empty shelves into some sweet jumps.
TheX
It's big enough to make a fun indoor park.
Tree Magnet
When Opal’s closed I lost any reason to even get within 100 yards of Frys. Their pushy sales staff with little to no knowledge and the “we know you’re trying to steal something” attitude was enough to make me hate that place. Good riddance.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RidingAgain
Shoot... And I was thinking of heading up there to pick up a 3.5 HD external case.
speedwater
I'm sad to see it go....even though I had a love hate relationship with it. It's generally a sh*tshow in there, they only really needed cashiers b/c nobody else knows anything or where anything is...BUT it was one of the few places you could go in town and get some true simple electronics parts w/out having to order from Mouser. I guess Altex is all that is left now.
TheX
I use Altex a lot, but only for datacenter stuff. They have a good assortment of fiber and other required bits.
speedwater
Yeah they do...and they actually understand what they sell...Frys was just a little easier for me to get to. And my 5yr old liked to go and buy crap out of those quarter machines. Edited March 3, 2020 by speedwater
RidingAgain
Thanks for the heads up on Altex... I didn't know about it. And they have 3.5 hdd enclosures.
