Why so angry? I never used the word considerable. You did. If you think the virus can't live on a mask, then you're delusional.

If people with a different opinion make you *angry*, you need to rethink how you're doing things.

I'm not in the slightest bit angry. This is your quote from June 13: "Most people use the same mask over and over, so any virus that it blocks is just built up and being spread every time they put it on, take it off, adjust it, etc. "

What is your source data for this statement which you have repeatedly made?

This is an excellent example of why everything is so messed up. Here this Business Insider magazine article is telling us the virus can live on a mask for seven days. Then it quotes a study from The Lancet as it's source. But now recently the CDC has refuted that published paper because it wasn't a verified study.

So all our news and facts we get are basically just from an ever evolving rumor mill.

But even if it COULD live on a mask for seven days, how does that justify not wearing one? If the virus is on the inside, great, all the better. It did it's job by preventing the wearer (who is already infected so it can't hurt them in a greater amount) from infecting someone else. And if the virus is on the outside, great, it did it's job not allowing that amount to be breathed in. So now take the mask off, wash it, and wash your hands.

Why is this such a hard concept.?

Interesting take/opinion on masks, and one that I share.

So Masks?
I don’t really know WHY OSHA hasn’t come forward and stopped the nonsense BUT
I wanna cover 3 things
• N95 masks and masks with exhale ports
• surgical masks
• filter or cloth masks

Okay so upon further inspection OSHA says some masks are okay and not okay in certain situations.
If you’re working with fumes and aerosol chemicals and you give your employees the wrong masks and they get sick you can be sued.

• N95 masks: are designed for CONTAMINATED environments. That means when you exhale through N95 the design is that you are exhaling into contamination. The exhale from N95 masks are vented to breath straight out without filtration. They don’t filter the air on the way out. They don’t need to.
Conclusion: if you’re in Stewart’s and the guy with Covid has N95 mask his covid breath is unfiltered being exhaled into Stewart’s (because it was designed for already contaminated environments, it’s not filtering your air on the way out)

• Surgical Mask: these masks were designed and approved for STERILE environments. The amount of particles and contaminants in the outside and indoor environments where people are CLOGGING these masks very Very quickly. The moisture from your breath combined with the clogged mask will render it “useless” IF you come in contact with Covid and your mask traps it You become a walking virus dispenser. Everytime you put your mask on you are breathing the germs from EVERYWHERE you went. They should be changed or thrown out every “20-30 minutes in a non sterile environment”

Cloth masks: today three people pointed to their masks as they walked by me entering Lowe’s. They said “ya gotta wear your mask BRO” I said very clearly “those masks don’t work bro, in fact they MAKE you sicker” they “pshh’d” me.

By now hopefully you all know CLOTH masks do not filter anything. You mean the American flag one my aunt made? Yes. The one with sunflowers that looks so cute? Yes. The bandanna, the cut up t-shirt, the scarf ALL of them offer NO FILTERING whatsoever. As you exhale you are ridding your lungs of contaminants and carbon dioxide. Cloth masks trap this carbon dioxide the best. It actually risks health. The moisture caught in these masks can become mildew ridden over night. Dry coughing, enhanced allergies, sore throat are all symptoms of a micro-mold in your mask.

Ultimate Answer: N95 blows the virus into the air from a contaminated person.

The surgical mask is not designed for the outside world and will not filter the virus upon inhaling through it. It’s filtration works on the exhale. (Like a vacuum bag it only works one way)

Cloth masks are WORSE than none.

The CDC wants us to keep wearing masks. The masks don’t work.

Wash your hands. Sanitize your hands. Don’t touch stuff. Wash your phone. Don’t touch people. And keep your distance. Why? Because your breath stinks, your deodorant is failing, your shoes are old and stink, that shirts not clean, I like my space. Trust me I can hear you from here. Lots of reasons. But trust me. The masks do not work.
*Occupational Safety & Hazard Association sited.
The top American organization for safety.
They regulate and educate asbestos workers, surgical rooms, you name it.
If your mask gives you security wear it, just know it is a false sense of security.

If stores stopped enforcing it no one would continue this nonsense.

Not all N95 masks are vented. There are non vented ones also. P95 and N95 both filter the same amount and particle size 95%. N95 is medical P95 is industrial. I've worn these types of masks most of my working life including dual cartridge respirators. And yes the valved masks are useless to both the wearer and the general public.

This^

These are my weapons of choice. The DIY zep towel is actually pretty good choice over cotton masks but still suffers from sealing issues and you'd have to basically tape that f@cker to your face to work. The other N95 does not have a vent and filters both ways. The dual cartdrige has the best seal and filtration for incoming air but the exhaust is blown through a diaphram and offers no protection for the people around me. I only used this when I had to go in somewhere and hardly anyone was using a face covering so my attitude was basically "f@ck em, I'm not getting sick today".

I'm far less freaked out about mail, food, touching things etc than I was 3 months ago. Seems that this virus is a lot like radiation with viral load and duration being a factor. The frontline workers exposed to massive amounts of indoor viral load are going to be at a far greater risk than me standing 6ft away from someone outside in the 100 degree heat. Crapshoot? Who knows at this point.

Osterholm and other researchers are putting together a real time study of viral load, face coverings and some guidelines that people can use to make real risk/reward decisions. Really looking forward to seeing what comes out of this study.

Former New York Times journalist Alex Berenson called out The New Yorker for reporting coronavirus hospitalization figures that the magazine later admitted were inaccurate.

In a piece published last Friday titled "As New York Reaches a Coronavirus Landmark, Parts of Red America Are Facing a Potential Disaster," New Yorker writer John Cassidy initially wrote that in Florida, "12,673 people were hospitalized, compared to the 8,553 a month ago, according to the COVID Tracking Project."

On Saturday, Berenson called out the error in what he described as "panic porn."

"It should come as no surprise that the most crucial and scariest fact in this New Yorker piece of panic porn is wrong: @johncassidy reports that 12,673 people 'are hospitalized' in Florida with #coronavirus, up 4,000 in a month. Nope..." Berenson began a Twitter thread. "12,673 HAVE BEEN hospitalized in Florida since hospitalizations began in March. The vast majority of those patients are home now. Florida has never had over ~2,000 people hospitalized with #Covid, 3.5% of its total hospital beds. Which presents a slightly different picture."

Also remember that Florida does not officially report on hospitalizations like every other state. I can see how these mistakes can happen.

There is this.

Spent some time in florida for work. F@ck that place too

Theoretically, If I wear a mask It will stop 95% of the bad germs coming out in my breath. That way I can protect you, because I care. But if you wear the same kind of mask, and I don’t wear one, it doesn’t protect you from me. Do these masks have a one way filter? How do we know which side is inhale, and which is exhale? If it’s the same kind of mask shouldn’t it provide the same percentage for breathing in as well as out? It seems like someone is trying to make me feel guilty about something I didn’t do.

So the mask says "I can block 95% of your germs from entering the local environment, thus drastically reducing the spread of disease" and you say "Oh yeah, but what's in it for me"?? This is the selfish attitude that the guilt comes from.

Do you cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze? Of course you do. This common courtesy has been ingrained in us all since childhood. It's effective at limiting germs from being spread. It hasn't been politicized. It's just generally accepted as the right thing to do. But do you cover your mouth when I cough or sneeze to protect yourself? Do hands and sleeves only work one way? Wearing a mask is the same concept. Block it at the source.

Let's do a little thought experiment. We are standing 3ft apart. I have COVID, and I'm about to sneeze. Which of these options does common sense tell you is going to give you the best chance of not contracting the virus? You can:

A) Put a mask on me

B) Put a mask on yourself

C) Neither of us get a mask

D) Both get masks

Let me clarify...I don't feel guilty. This all boils down to what I think I need to do to protect me, and what YOU think I should do to protect YOU.

It has been politicized.

And I liked AntonioGG's answer better.

You're thinking about this wrong. It is what WE need to do to protect US.

When you are dealing with communicable diseases, the "individual mentality" does not hold. Sorry. We're all in this together. And based on how Texas is trending, you're about to see some more restrictions coming down from your individual liberties governor.

The virus does not negotiate and it cannot be bullied.

What you need to do to protect you is to ask that people around you wear a mask (for a start). or ask/ force everyone else to stay home. no one is going to stay home 100% of the time, so mask it is.

what I need to do to protect me is to ask that everyone around me in public wear a mask. or stay home. I can't stay home 100% of the time, so mask it is.

this has been plainly obvious to everyone since day one. I don't see why this simple, logical thing is so hard to grasp.

we can achieve that by hook or by crook: voluntarily or by force. the fact that forcing people to be decent to one another is necessary is a sad thing.

Here's the long and short of it:

People who wear masks - the mountain bike community with regards to riding on wet trails

People who won't wear masks - the rider who doesn't give a shit about everyone else and wants to get his ride in, doesn't care what it does to the trials.

Again, it is a we vs. me.

You're right about one thing. It is getting hard to explain how masks work over and over without repeating the same basic principles. "Your spit and snot can make people sick. Putting something over your face holes stops some of the spit and snot that comes out of them. That makes less people sick. Less people getting sick is good."

Selfish, self-centered children rarely do change their minds. Only when they grow up and become a bit more mature do they realize how  they were wrong. Hopefully someday you'll get there, without having to watch someone die in the process.

Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday called the rising rate of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations “unacceptable,” but said he has no plans to shut down the state again.

Instead, the governor renewed his call on Texans to do their part to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“We must find ways to return to our daily routines as well as finding ways to coexist with COVID-19,” Abbott said in a news conference. “Closing down Texas again will always be the last option.”

LOL, I've been waiting for that. Name calling is so grown up.

Local governments and police departments in California have said in recent days that they will not enforce a mandate from Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom that people in the state wear face masks in most public places, including outdoor areas where social distancing is not possible -- despite emphasis from the governor about the importance of following the order.

Of course there are new cases. They're discovering that there have been MILLIONS more than previously known. More testing is making the number of cases spike, but the number of people that have had it, and recovered is going to be in the 10's of millions once proper anti-body testing is available.

No name calling. Just using children as an example to follow. Really don't expect a selfish, self-centered adult to learn anything. Certainly not to care about anyone or anything but themselves. Most people do, just would like to see more do so as well.
