Just what areas of Walnut Creek trail are off-leash?

As a Strava racer, I think that your rational ignores the instance of cyclists being bit by off leash dogs.

I don't ignore that. I already said don't let mean dogs off leash in another comment. That includes ones that bite or have any violent tendency. It's up to you weather you blast by them or not to get a KOM, and in actuality there is a trail speed limit which I'm positive strava users have to ignore in order to rank. Me, I stop riding if it looks sketchy and let them pass.

I think the part that you are refusing to accept is that many people wrongly think their dogs are not biters.  They usually find out the hard way.  I don't think people go on purpose to the trail off leash knowing their dog could bite someone.   My wife is a vet by training and practiced for many years on small animals and knows too well this is what happens.  We take our dogs to therapy dog training (Austin Dog Alliance) and it's here where you really get to see what a dog is going to do when it gets startled or some kid hugs it unexpectedly.

Two years ago, Mr. JB was bitten at WC by "a dog that doesn't bite."  He had actually stopped to let the woman and her dog get by.  Fortunately, this was a very responsible dog owner who followed through with confirming rabies vax and Mr. JB was cleared by his doc, with no resulting infection.

Rabies is a terrifying illness. Through my Nextdoor list serve and my own observations, I know that the wild world interacts seamlessly with the domesticated world in the evenings and during the night. I've seen opossums and foxes in my back yard (one block north of Braker Lane) and there are regular coyote and raccoon sightings.  There are even bobcats in the Walnut Creek corridor, confirmed by neighborhood game cameras.  Of these animals, only opossums don't carry rabies.

If you do get bitten by a dog, be relentless in making the owner confirm a current rabies vaccination.  Considering the current climate of utter wingnuttery about vaccinating kids and vaccines in general, I would not be surprised if at least some of those people have stopped vaccinating their pets.

"I would never put that poison in my children but dog vaccinations are another issue, those address preventable diseases..."
I just carry a 5G phone with me in case I am bit.
Keep it in your red hat right?
