Bicycle Parent Bragging Thread

The LT team seems like one of the strongest in Texas.  My youngest was with the Composite Tarantula Hawks last spring and I signed up to coach.  He wasn't that much into the fairly easy XC courses though so we stopped.  We were planning on just doing TMBRA this year instead, but we all know how that went...

Ok, once again my little dude surprised me today.  We were heading to Brushy to ride and when we get there he discovered he forgot his helmet and Camelbak at home.  So we turned around and headed back the house.  Once home, he talks me into changing bikes and riding over to the WC pump track to play around.  I escort him over there, get him situated and then take off for a short lap of Windy/Servere/BMX.  When I get back he said he's got something to show me.....holy cr@p!   I sorta panicked inside when I first saw him hit this jump!

Kids are friggin awesome sometimes^

Not exactly MTB, but got my youngest back on the bike after an 18 month hiatus. Had some re configuring to get it back to a normal bike, but we did and now she's all about that singlespeed life😁

My turn.  Here's my 13.5 year old.  I didn't teach him anything.  If anything, he is teaching me a proper J-hop (even got flat pedals for my bike):

Here is the dismount:

He also saved up and bought that bike himself.  (I bought him his mountain bike.)  I highly recommend getting a proper BMX bike for your kids if they do a lot of jumps and such around the neighborhood.  They are much more stout than a MTB.  You'll save money on tubes, tires, wheels, gears, etc.

I think we've done quite a bit of Brushy including 1/4, Snow White and of course his favorites picnic (he does the drops) and Peddlers.

Rode almost 6 miles today with my 6yo. Started at Fern Bluff El. Rode down the stone canyon rough descent, then along the BCRT to Ankle biter. Walked the beginning with her and rode the rest. Then back to the BCRT at Champion and up the dam (walked a bit) and then played in the creek next to Mulligan. Had my wife pick us up from the skate park (as planned).

...Then Northpark in Allison Park, PA (northern Pittsburgh) They have a fun little skills park there and my 6 year old without warning said he wanted to hit "The Drop Line" and dropped in. It's a run with progressively larger drops mostly to flat with the first one being about a 1.5' drop. He STOMPED the first one and I couldn't believe it. He decided (wisely) not to continue with the larger drops, but I was super proud. My 8 year old surprised me on how good he has gotten on climbs. He just settles in to a groove and scrambles up and over rocks and roots to calmly wait for his brother and I at the top. Great days on bikes!

Then get her a new helmet, dad!

That looks to be 9th street?  I went by there the other morning and it was full of families and kids.  Such a HUGE change from the once territorial type place it use to be.  I suspected it also had something to do with the time of morning but was nice to see.  I was also surprised at home much new and smaller stuff had been built.

Later,

She survived her first front wheel washout today and did over 3 miles of Peddlers Pass! This makes 3 out of the last 4 Saturdays she's begged to ride.

This is an awesome post, well done DAD!

I was the fellow on the Chumba a couple of turns behind you on Peddler's. That kid rides pretty fast!

Her speed has steadily increased. Following her on single-track used to be a 1st/2nd gear crawl for me. By the end of our ride yesterday I realized I was actually going at a casual pace and sometimes even falling behind, awesome to see progress!

my 9 year old just transitioned from a 24 wheel kids bike to a small 27.5 rockhopper. here’s a clip of him at the neighborhood park working on some skills. his favorite trail is peddlers at brushy.

I grew up on Santa Cruz, and spent countless hours between riding that park and the Quarries. That takes me back.

My kids grew up around mountain bikes (both rode in utero), went through the trailer then the tag-along phase, and have ridden with us their whole lives (now 20 and 23).  We have been with our daughter and her boyfriend in Sedona the past couple of weeks and it has been so fun to see her technical skills on display.  We ended up on a really fun black diamond trail called Ground Control and she was solid!  I was 40 when she was born and I told myself at the time that I wanted to stay in good enough shape to do real mountain bike rides with them.  7E0CB7AE-D972-4CE5-9BDA-424363016235.thumb.jpeg.727569d288f8800dfa85882bd9d93a65.jpeg
