hurronnicane
A big group of us went out there a couple of weeks ago for an annual camping/riding trip only to find out that 95% of the trails were closed with no timetable for their re-opening. The park ranger said they had received 36" of rain since September 1st! The issue wasn't that they were too wet but that they were washed away! We were hoping to ride most of the 40 miles of trails out there over the weekend and had to make alternate plans. We did ride down the road to the Bandera Bike Park and while it is clearly a work in progress it was fun to check it out and it has a lot of really promising terrain. Barry
Sorry to hear you plans didn't pan out. But good to hear Bandera is coming along. I'll try them out at some point. Regarding HCNA's trails washing away...that's no surprise. Many of their trails are just unsustainable fall-line and loose cobble. So that makes sense. Trailrider
Yes, most of HCNA's trails are shyte and Ice Cream is mostly unrideable. This creates a condition where the trails are immensely fun and satisfying for very fit and skilled riders. If you are not one of them, it is scary and unfun. A lot of the fall line trails are washed away to the point where you are riding in a narrow tunnel up to your seat post collar over egg to fist sized rocks knocking you around. Challenging up hill, dangerous down hill.
