AustinBike
Got a nicer bike for my wife and need to secure it. It does not need to be indestructible, just stop the crime of opportunity. Would be connected to wallboard, hopefully drilled into the stud. Any thoughts?
mack_turtle
I have two large i-bolts screwed into a stud. The bolt i-ends are just far enough apart that they could be screwed in and a u-lock can fit through. You can't unscrew them with a lock through both at the same time. A determined theif would just cut the lock, but that would take a whle and make a lot of noise.
AustinBike
That is a really good idea. At this point I am not really worried about how durable the lock is, this is about keeping it from being taken quickly because the door was accidentally left open. My assumption is that once someone gets inside the garage and closes the door, they have access to tools. Mostly wanted to stop someone from walking down the street, seeing someone left the door open, and grabbing the bike.

Just need to be sure to also lock up the Ryobi Angle Grinder, if stored nearby. 🤔
AustinBike
Don't own an angle grinder. But there are axes and a 3-lb mallet in the garage. As a network security aficionado I spend a lot of time thinking about the threat matrix and dealing with the corner cases.
