Riding Vintage...

Recommended Posts

I kind of want to try riding an older bike on trails. My current bike is not "high end" or "cutting edge" but I would call it "comfortably contemporary." I'd like to try a 26er hardtail with linear pull brakes, narrow handlebar, and an 80mm fork for comparison. One thing I thing for which I will never feel nostalgic is tubed tires and carrying multiple tubes to finish a single ride. Eff that.

I was thinking that Yeti or similar would be fun both on Walnut group ride or a solo Brushy ride. But I'd certainly give it a split tube-tubeless setup first!

I really want to "upgrade" my Trek VRX with an airshock/fork combo. Best I could do was get a new low-end 100mm fork; couldn't find an appropriate length shock. Even the fork, though one version of the bike was originally spec'd with a 100mm fork, this 100mm fork axle-crown is much higher when compared to original Judy XC I had on it.

I have tried to ride it at Walnut, but it is so harsh it is not fun at all.

This was my very first real "Mountain Bike" bought new. It would sound really cool if I said that I would really love to get a chance to ride one again, but I look at this thing and I honestly would have no wish for that abuse again.

I don't even remember what I did with it. It was roached, I do remember that.
