I rode yesterday and noticed a cave dig project on the north end of the trail. A friend of mine is an active cave digger, and I sent him a picture to see if it was his project. It was not, but he was able to find the fellow working on it, who apparently is very much a loner, and we wondered if he might be blocking the trail to protect the project. Long story short, it was not him; he hasn't been there in 6 months. But, in an effort to keep things civil between the various users, I suggested he let us know if they need help installing a cave gate or modifying the trail/visibility at the project site.

I may have a lead on the Rudolph trail damage. It is a long shot, but I'll report back.

I think dowhillers are looking for more gear. I don't know enough about the discipline, but I imagine there's a limit to how large a ring you want to put on the front, and you need a lot of speed to hit big jumps. most of us around here don't have any real use for that high range.
I'm not sure if they need more gears for speed... Maybe just less brakes! 😂

it's perilous to suggest reporting equestrians on unauthorized trails when the trails and our presence on them are unauthorized already. not sure what to do about that. I do know that horses are allowed in very, very few parks, and Circle C Metro is not one of the ones that allows horses. I called 311 to report horses in CC one time and the person I called clearly didn't know and didn't care.
I personally wasn't suggesting anyone be reported, because of the tenuous status you describe, just that it was not something that I was really expecting but will probably be watching for going forward. And it is good motivation to get out there and clean up a few sight lines. Maybe I'll leave those scrapers that cxagent mentioned, though

I was walking on Firehouse yesterday and we bumped into 2 riders on horseback. They were friendly, but definitely going at a good clip, and it could have been bad if they met a biker in a blind corner. So watch out out there.

@ Owen, Around here is is frowned upon to take on any trail mods that are not cleared by the land owners whomever they may be. Perhaps you are more of a technical rider than many of us who are xc riders am to pro.
If you are ready for kickers over gaps and backflips I suggest you get in with Freeride 512. They have a course at RockyHill Ranch, Cat Mtn and now Wilco somewhere and can always use shovel help. Not only that they can point you to Spider Mtn and Bandara also as places you may enjoy working and/or riding. Good luck finding your stoke.
Oh, I'm hardly a freerider! And I'm not promoting trail mods, just pointing out that it would be fun to have some more walnut-esque features scattered about town, which is why my original question was about who to contact about trail work on the south side, as these are now my local trails.

What do you mean by "flow?" I would say that the SATN is mostly flow now. Lots of non-rocky flow.
Interesting that you ask about flow right below posts about that log feature. Do you mean more features?
Inner and outer log loops are close to flow trails. Flow trails have features you can pump and pop, with less tech and peddling. I wouldn't call SATN flow, and I don't think that it needs to be, but I think a few spots could use more 3-dimensionality. I think parts of Phoenix, for instance, could use some fast berms and rollers, and it wouldn't impact the slow techy tree gate stretches people 'round here like.
IMBA: "Flow Trails take mountain bikers on a terrain-induced roller coaster experience, with little pedaling and braking necessary. This style of trail typically contains features like banked turns, rolling terrain, various types of jumps, and consistent and predictable surfaces. Conspicuously absent are abrupt corners or unforeseen obstacles."

So, who do we work with to get a bit more of this flow on the SATN? I know folks will be all protective of their manky rock gardens, but surely there are a few trails that could handle a bit more flow and pop?

New flow on Inner and Outer Logs loops is GREAT! Props to the builders for keeping Walnut fun.

Meh, not sure debating the validity of grey zone (?) trail versus unsanctioned dig is really worthwhile. Lots of land in south Austin is karst preserve, and improved relations between bikers and karst folks would probably be more beneficial to access and multiuse in the long run. This just seems like a place to extend an olive branch and collaborate. And have you seen the stone work? We could build some sweet berms in the trail right there with the stone and dirt coming out of the ground! Regardless, these folks are not the trail-blocking culprits. - edit...
