Speaking of names. Who is Mark, of Walnut's "Mark's Art" fame?

Did Mark put that part of the trail together, and it's considered art?

Was Mark an artist, and the trail is a tribute to his art?

Maybe someone was at a loss for a name, and that's what they came up with.

Mark Henneke was responsible for working with the city, designing, and building much of Walnut Creek. He’s an amazing guy, and 20 years ago had thousands of hours of trail work under his belt. If you ride up there you’re enjoying his vision.

  2. I rode up Rudolph this morning just to check the conditions/sabotage. I cleared two rocks at the north end, but the south end was in bad shape. Multiple rocks, the cedar that someone keeps dragging across the trail, another smaller cedar and lots of small brush. I’m wondering if there is a homeless camp in there and they don’t want anyone going thru there. Like the rest of y’all, I just don’t understand why this one section is such an affront to that “special“ person.

  3. I think we’re talking about two different spots. We put one big rock back like it was, but didn’t add a pile of rocks. Bottom line is, I’m tired of people changing an existing trail because it’s too hard for them. Walk, practice or go home. I’m still challenged every time I’m out there and my ego doesn’t prohibit me from walking a section. It blows me away that someone would be dumb/bold/callous (insert derogatory adjective) enough to go out and fuck the trails up. I’m not okay with that, nor are any of the guys that I ride with. All of us have considered the BCGB our favorite local playground for over 20 years. Thanks for the feedback

  4. No, we didn’t take any photos. If you’re familiar with Hammerhead Gulch you’ll be able to spot the damage done and our attempt at repair. Some of the other sanitizing we blocked off. If people can’t ride what’s there they should practice or walk. Or ride somewhere else that’s less challenging.

  5. To the person or people that have been sanitizing the Barton Creek Greenbelt, please stop. Seriously, really, stop it. Many of us have been riding those trails for 20 plus years and they’ve held up for a reason. When you go in and remove rocks, remove trees and create cheater lines you’re destroying what someone else has spent countless hours building correctly. If you can’t ride something practice, that’s what keeps it fun. If a feature is above your skill level that’s okay. Get off, walk, and leave the trails intact. Rock and tree removal lead to soil erosion which leads to these fantastic, decades old trails breaking down and washing away.  SANITIZING a trail or section just for your personal pleasure is pretty far from okay. If you’re wondering, I’m sick of putting sections back together in Hammerhead Gulch and in Travis Country just because someone doesn’t like what’s been in place and sustainable forever. Trust me, you’re not that important but those trails are. To all you fat tire friends, if you know who is doing this please make this a teaching moment. Perhaps it’s some of our younger people that just don’t understand the damage they’re causing and how much they’re pissing people off.

Good for MJs. They are an independent business who can make principaled decisions not to sell equipment that will be abused to a corrupt agency with a bloated budget.

I thought Trek stopped selling those cops bikes anyway.

I’ve got a problem with you throwing all cops into the corrupt agency pool. How many LE people do you know? How many stories have you heard first hand about the way the public abuses them? What have your experiences been with LE? How do you feel when people put all mountain bikers in the dope smoking, reckless riding, rude category? I’m married to someone in LE. Another recently lived with us. Needless to say, we have many friends in LE and I’m gonna tell you that these are good people that went into law enforcement for ALL THE RIGHT REASONS. We’re fucked without law enforcement. Prove me wrong.

  7. Looking for a great single speed? I’m selling my Jabber; medium frame, WTB Pure V saddle, Hope brakes, Ergon grips, Truvativ bar, Race Face crank, 32 X 18 gearing, Stan’s ZTR Flow wheels. The rear has been recently rebuilt with a new Stan’s hub, new Vittoria Morsa rear, Morsa front, Thompson stem and seatpost, and Rock Shox Reba rebuilt to Sid specs. This is a great bike, and I’m only selling it because I bought another Vassago. $1500 locally.
