  1. I can't answer the question about how easy it will be to set up tubeless as it varies depending on the tire rim combo.  as far as pressure goes.  My gravel bike has 19mm width rims set up tubeless with Maxxis Rambler tires.  On gravel I'll run them at about 35psi and for road riding raise it to~45psi.  I did run Slime tubes for a bit but still ended up with punctures so converted to tubeless with no flats thus far.

  2. I heard a long time ago but can't remember where that for long flights to take baby aspirin to help with keeping the blood thinned out to avoid this.  I take long flights (10-17hrs) about 6 times a year and thus far no issues and I do make a point of moving and stretching every couple of hours.  I too have lots of hardware but luckily no issues thus far.  On a semi related note my heart CT scan came back with a score of zero so all good there.

Even then....how many people are willing (and have!) $6-7k to drop on a used bike?  I could be wrong, but I tend to think that the 'used buyer' is a completely different type of consumer than the '$7k dollar bike buyer'.  IMHO there is a point where if someone is willing to spend $7k used....then that same type of person would actually go buy something comparable for $9k new (w/warranty, shop support, color choice, etc..)

I tend to agree.  If I was shopping in that range I would be building something from scratch selecting every specific component and probably going with a frame from a boutique brand or have a custom frame built.  It's a sweet bike though.

  4. I agree with the comments above on buying used or finding something on sale.  I'm a big proponent of finding something that's a good deal then spending money on targeted upgrades.  You may not get the brand, color, etc. that you want but if look around you can find bikes that are substantially discounted.  Unfortunately in the couple of years since PricePoint shut down options for nice builds that are 40-50% discounted have all but dried up.

  5. Doubt you're going to find to many people on here trying to change your mind.  Personally I have a SS HT and a FS.    The HT is a Salsa ElMariachi and I love it but I don't think I could go to only riding a HT.  I do take it on 1/4 notch occasionally but the pounding takes it's toll so my vote would be keep the FS and add a HT.  A plus bike or a 29er that you can run larger tires on will help smooth things out but the Timberjack is a nice bike and you can get one relatively inexpensively.    Would also look at the Karate Monkey and a Canfield nimble 9 but building one would run a bit more $$.  Good luck 🙂

  6. I too have read that the increase in chances of survival from CPR are relatively small which is not exactly comforting so having an AED while not likely would be preferable.  This has been on my mind too recently as I'm getting older (52 this year) and am not sure how safe it is to be running high heart rates during long endurance events and training sessions.  No stress test but I did go in for a heart CT scan but have not received the results yet but hoping it will provide some reassurance.

So I hit it yesterday and was clocking a pretty nice pace when I came across a dismounted rider bailing water out from between the rollers. Of course I stopped and would have helped but the bucket was not to be found. He was using a square edged shovel to get as much water out as he could. We talked for a couple of minutes and then I walked my bike around the flooded sections and proceeded to finish my lap. As I'm winding my way through the adjacent sections I see a couple of srtavassholes nearly run that same guy over without so much as a "pardon me". I could hear the guy say something like "hey how about a heads up" but don't know if they even stopped to apologize. Damn dudes! Save the clock for another day and give your fellow riders a little courtesy on the trail.

Sad but I've observed increase in the number of these riders on the trails recently.   Seem to ride in packs like roadies on dirt.

  8. Yep not thrilled with the entrances and the extension of Wyoming Springs on the map does make it look like the drop in along the powerline has a limited lifetime. Although other than the rocky section through the trees at the end it's not really that exciting.  Change is inevitable, guess I should be thankful that it's easy to hit all of the Brushy trails riding from home.

Have a friend that posted up some pictures on F.B. of some nice bass pulled from Ninja.

Oh, and I'm afraid to ask, but anybody know what is occuring East of the Brushy creek main trail end towards the overpass?  Please say a park and not MORE houses!

Housing development going in.  My hope is that the route down from the end of Wyoming springs is still there in the end.

My SS feels faster (tried to do a fast lap but broke the chain right at the start) but I think it's because of the steep head angle.  It's also smaller overall I think.  I'll try to get back out there this week and compare.  I'm really curious about whether it just feels fast or whether it is.

YMMV but I took the SS HT out this evening and hit Peddlers as part of my route.  Took it easy, not slow but did not push it either, felt slow and the lose rocks made for a bumpy ride.  Was 30 sec slower than my last run through on the geared full squish.  I expected a bigger time difference based on how it felt combined with not working too hard.

Would the people behind the counter at Whataburger qualify as nutritionists?

LOL I don't think so.  My problem was using riding as an excuse to eat and drink as much as I wanted of whatever I wanted.  Trying to lose ~10lbs while not negatively impacting my riding strength which as been an issue in the past.  I'll still be slow though... 🙂
