    First I would say this:

4G/5G antenna densification is escalating health risks

This is not just about 5G,  but also 4G that has been deployed for many years and has been checked heavily by the scientific/medical sectors.

    Then:

The Appeal calls on the United Nations to resolve the inconsistencies among its sub-organizations and to seriously address the rapidly escalating health and environmental crisis caused by man-made EMF pollution.

"Rapidly escalating health and environmental crisis"?

    I'm with Barry.

And why don't we let the cancer experts weigh in: https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/radiation-exposure/cellular-phones.html

Ultimately, while I am generally skeptical of new technologies, knowing that 5G is going to be using many of the same frequency bands that are already in use today is a clearer indication that a lot of this is overblown. When is the last time that any of us climbed a cell tower? We live with radiation every day from a variety of sources.

The fed government is pretty tight with ensuring those are exposed to ionizing radiation are monitored and their doses are measured shiftly, monthly or quarterly.  There are quarterly and yearly limits that are not exceeded for ionizing radiation dosage.  weird side note, nuclear workers who are routinely exposed to low level ionizing radiation have cancer rates lower than the rest of the population. Most likely is due to the small sample size of the population.

Some 5G pundits contend that the new network generates radiofrequency radiation that can damage DNA and lead to cancer; cause oxidative damage that can cause premature aging; disrupt cell metabolism; and potentially lead to other diseases through the generation of stress proteinprotein

The only kind of radiation that can cause somatic changes ( damage DNA)  is ionizing radiation.

  4. HEB has a pretty good protein bread that another cyclist told me about that is available at the Tech Ridge and Lakeway locations.    It seems that I can maintain my current weight without effort, if I want to drop to better power to weight ratio I have to do Keto. I did  keto a year ago for a few months and dropped 10=15 lbs easily.   I've worked on portion control and there is an effort/ROI that doesn't seem worth it to me.  Currently working myself into the mental space to go Keto again.  Post ride local beer is a real sacrifice.

Those that Keto, what do you do pre ride?  If I eat a calorie dense breakfast- example McDonald's Bagel Egg and Cheese or pancakes - I can ride for  hours with a an hourly gel and a shake every 2 hours.  When I go light on my pre ride meal, I bonk at the 90 min mark and no amount of nutrition fixes the hazy-lazy feeling.

Thank you for all the great trail guidance.  This trip was surreal.  The trails were beautiful and interesting. Excited to be home, alarm at 4am will be way too soon.

  6. Kinda glad we didn't go.  Weather (wintry mix) was awful for the days we would have been there. Still have it on the list!
Not us. We had to drive out there to just make sure it was shitty weather

  7. We are thinking of traveling to El Paso between Xmas and New Year- weather dependent in Arkansas. Pretty excited to see the rest of the Chihuahua Desert.

  8. Thank you for the information, there is a lot to process here. It will take me a while to consider all the information here.

I'm not particularly a bad ass rider, and at 41, I'm pretty satisfied with my 9-5(or 6-6 in my case). Any racing I do is purely a hobby.

I just switched over to 29er from 27.5+ for 10 months. Before that I rode a 26 for about 8 years (in Rochester, and Ithaca). I'm finding the slacker set up makes some trail features less intimidating. This may be a set up I feel comfortable trying an Enduro race.

I also changed my diet to get faster climbing. I cringe at the motivation to finally drop 15 lbs, but I'm pretty satisfied with my downhill speed and flat speed. If I want to go faster, I have to carry less potential fuel. I learned that November 18th. If I want to be successful in endurance, I also have to start an upper body strength training.

Thanks again for all the great reference information. I may check out Pedlars Pass.

  9. Greetings Forum,

I'm thinking about trying a few races this year and I'm wondering about these bike teams I see.

Those that race with a team, what are the benefits? How did you select your team?

We moved to Texas from upstate NY, and I never saw any valve in racing as the only woman in my age group. I'd seriously cringe thinking of standing alone at a podium accepting a participation trophy. Most social activities were usually centered around the local imba chapters. It's so different here, having a larger population. But enough back story

  10. This year I cycled through 3 different tire sizes and 2 rim sizes. I started with Rocket Ron's 27.5 x 3.0 on Raceface Affect 40+ rims in February and went through 2 pair in 1500 miles. Swapped over to 27.5 x 2.8 Rekons right before the single loop at LGT. Very different tread pattern.

I just switched a 29 x 2.35 mavic Quest Pro on Mavic XA Elite rims. This 29 set-up may be my favorite, it most reminds me of a 26x 2.35. I still think the 27.5+ set up was necessary to work on handling since transitioning from a 26". I'll probably just go back to the 27.5 for Big Bend or El Paso.

  11. I've followed Austin Ridge Riders for over a year now and have rarely found a ride posted that doesn't occur while I work. I only work the front end of the week, and am kind of disappointed. With the amount of people who ride, I'm becoming super discouraged at how hard it is to find people to ride with.

  12. Where do you ride the gravel bike?
Anywhere and everywhere. Look at gravel maps. So far my favorite is over by the Llano uplift. Got in 90 miles this week so far. I even got over my aversion to road riding with the new whip.

  13. Finally broke down and got something that I can ride on the road. Love the staff at BSS, unlike other shop I visited, they never talk me out of what feels right. I feel like a kid before Christmas waiting to ride her this afternoon!!!!!!!e8620aff8c321d36bf2f0b50847c37b1.jpg89c632bb7733e11dfb19b2986b88f80e.jpgb4707a3639b9cd4788bd1a00b7fdf15e.jpg

  14. I have an old school trainer that I keep my old 26" full suspension bike on. It's ok if I have a good audiobook, which I usually do. Before we got our fatbikes in NY, that's what I did for 2 winters everyday. Sometimes need to just be outside. The fatbiking and year round Austin biking really spoiled me. I found a nice Divergent at BSS.

ive been using a wahoo kickr. It lets you train using power levels (like output 220w for 1 hour) and has the added ability to not get hit by a car. You can find them used for 600-700 and you can either throw your bike on it or put any cheap spare bike on it.
