  1. Not an official EB ride but...  Riding tomorrow (Sunday) morning.  Leaving from the Walnut pool parking lot at 8am sharp.  Taking the road to City Park and doing a lap in the new (clockwise) direction then riding back to do a lap at Walnut.  This ride will include Courtyard, Jester, and Yaupon road climbs.  Not a fast ride (walking some climbs on my single speed), but not a babysitting ride either.  This is a good way to see the new City Park direction, all major road climbs, and the full Walnut loop.  Post up if you are interested.

  2. There is discussion on the Facebook about changing the start time.  My EventBrite reminder says 6am.  If this goes down with a time change will all the registrants get some sort of notification?

It really did. It woke me up and continued for about 2 hours. Unfortunately I've had my fill of not riding singletrack the last couple of days.

Were we the only two planning to do this ride? I think instead I'm going to head out to Pedernales for a good long ride on dirt and rocks. It looks like they missed most of the rain last night.

Impromptu for sure, but you're welcome to join me if you'd like. I could pick you up at 8 at WC.

Sounds like a plan.  You can pick me up at WC at 8.  Thanks for the dirt inclusive change of plans.  I will be by the pool parking lot ready to go.

  4. Rained pretty hard last night.  I need the miles, so I'm still leaving at 8, but might end up not riding on the trails.  The hilly road section took me 3 hours several weeks ago on the single speed.  City Park may be good to go.  You still up for this Barry?

  5. Sunday, Nov 4th.  Test your fitness and resolve with an EB pre-ride.  Wheels down 8am.  Start at Walnut Creek pool parking lot.  Ride to City Park.  Complete 1 lap.  Ride back to Walnut.  Complete 1 lap.  Be prepared to ride for around 5 to 6 hours and climb / walk all four major road hills on the EB route.  I don't have a GPS file.  I don't know my average speed.  I will not try do drop anyone, but I'm not a babysitter.  Post up if you plan to attend.

  7. Rode the GB portion today + some extra credit.  Be prepared for some slick rocks and one balls deep water crossing.  Other than that, conditions were good.  I was surprised that the entrance to EZ-UP wasn't as overgrown as previous years.

There will be rider numbers this year, largely to assist the Thumper Trail Angels in counting riders in and out - most people exiting Thumper can't remember their own name, or manage to give a different name than the one they gave going in.

While it's true that not everyone manages the full route - although most do - anyone vying for a Top Twenty position has to show the correct mileage on their GPS when they cross the finish line, and any subsequent protests are taken seriously (and conducted in private). A couple of positions were changed last year alone, based on protests and Strava tracks. If everyone uses a GPS and posts the track, it should be obvious if anyone missed a portion of  the route.

I have done this ride 5 times and am usually in the top 10 or 20, but don't have or want GPS.  Are we gonna have a problem this year?
