Did the Enduro climb up Mont Sainte Anne. Pretty tired but the fall scenery was amazing. Looking forward to the next couple of weeks.

Didn't they just have some world cup action up that way? Pretty sure I saw a selfie of Emily Batty after a nasty looking spill.

These guys are the equivalent of the companies designing the proprietary in-vehicle navigation systems. When everyone carries a smartphone, nobody uses the in-vehicle nav very often because it has shitty usability and relies on out of date technology.

Rather a sweeping generalization. My built-in nav works just great, and I use it on every road trip.

Lake Atalanta seems to often get overlooked. I think is a blast. Probably only around 15 miles of trail absolute max but I like to do loops on my favorite stuff and usually end up with 20 miles or so. Nice to have a level lake (where I usually park) to spin around to warm up/cool down too. Also, I get bored before a half a lap of any pump/jump track but I can spend some time at the Railyard. Paved/wood jumps and lines from toddler to expert. The trails don't seem to get as much maintenance (maybe because of the location or it is City of Rogers?) but I think it is well worth a visit. As a bonus Ozark Beer Company is right by the trailhead, I usually pick up a sample twelve pack and enjoy a few on the porch. Good quick ride on the arrival day or in the morning before heading home.

Lake Atalanta is fun, fairly climby with a great downhill run in it, and I recall quite a good brewery, as well as a bike shop with beer on tap.

I just believe the the solid use cases are not on the trails. Urban commuting, delivery, replacing gas scooters, and now military. These are all good uses.

What about ol George Dawkins? He rides a power-assisted Specialized several days a week, and he’ll tell you he probably wouldn’t be out there if it wasn’t for the pedal assist.

  5. We have a friend in Houston - in fact, we helped sponsor his daughter on the annual Austin to Alaska UT ride - who is Swiss, and did his mandatory national service in the 1970s as a part of the two-wheeled division ... whatever it is called. He recently found one of those Swiss Army singlespeeds in great shape, and brought it over to the US. Here's a recent pic.

This was his last act of attrition prior to abandoning us to the whims of the the air fryer that is Central Texas 🥵 while he luxuriates in the mountainous clime 🥶 of Angel Fire for the next couple of months.

Best wishes on the retreat to the Land of Enchantment, amigo.

Speaking of air fryers -- I'll be up there with him for some of that time 🙂

Having spent a lot of time in Berlin, Dresden and other East German cities, I can say that the number of Porters that I have had is <checks notes>, um, zero.

All of the Porters that I have had in Europe have been almost exclusively in England and Scotland. Germany has a ton of great beers but I would be looking for dunkels, lagers and pils in Germany. If I wanted something more substantial I'd go for their "heavy beers", basically anything ending in "tor" like a good Spaten Optimator.

A Cold War Porter! Isn't that like ... having a chunk of the Berlin Wall?
